Let's tell the truth here. AK is about a single player and that is Bryce Maginley who, arguably, is the best QB in the Big City. Without him they have almost nothing and a losing record. He's so good and AK so mediocre he also plays FS. That's ridiculous on any 4A unit. QB's playing defense is 1A/2A football. Losing #1 effectively ends your season as contender for anything except laughing stock and when you line up on Catholic it also means you will fall hard on gameday. AK has zero balance. They will feel it Friday. Write it down.

is it really ridculous?dudley won a state championship with their qb starting at corner because he was the best athlete on their squad. its not like qb's get tired unless the are carrying the ball 25 times a game. at safety a person can go multiple snaps without ever being involved in a play depending on the offense and the scheme.
AK uses Maginley totally different in comparison to the way Dudley used Moseley. He runs often, and he has to tackle often because AK defense really sucks. Moseley was surrounded by studs on both sides of the ball.
understood but the original poster was making it like it was a crime for a high quality athlete to play both ways on a high school team. SC kid a couple years ago went both ways at corner and receiver because he was the best player at either position (Trejon Monley). It happens more than people think. The kid from Pinecrest who lit SC up last week plays both ways and is the returner. Again its because he is the best player on their team and athlete. I know Mike Hughes played both ways throughout his career especially when they needed their best 11 on the field. it was more situational but if AK sucks then that explains even more why he plays both ways. The above-mentioned teams don't suck and they still do it so why would a team who did.
And that will ALWAYS be so with Dudley defense Nepsy. Well said. If it is not top ranked it will be in the top five and that is year after year after year. Don't like seeing a large 4A program like AK use a talented QB like Maginley on defense. It's an unnecessary dance with the devil. I'm sure he loves it--that I understand--but it's not a good thing and with Red Pain rolling in Friday for a conference match Mom and Dad might be a bit concerned.
Don't make it up as you go along JMAC. I neither said or inferred it was criminal for someone going both ways. AK defense is not good. It should be. That's my point here with 4A schools vs 1A/2A programs with low ADM's.

AK is not the only sorry defensive team in 4 a ball do you see any of the scores on Friday my good ness only a handful of teams in the state play D.
