Chambers will take on Cardinal Gibbons this Saturday. A rematch from last year 4A State Championship game where Cardinal Gibbons won 14-2. What can be expected with this game. I’m sure Chambers wants this win to start out the season.

Biggest question mark in my view will be the offense for CG. They lost some key talent, and we didn't learn much in the scrimmage this past week. (starting QB only played first half, and I don't know much about the rb's). I think the defense will be solid as they are returning more starters. Not having Smothers will be a big gap to fill for JC, but I suspect they have rising talent to help plug that hole

Look like chances of rain about everyday this week. But cooler than normal temperatures for it to be August. Which that part is good

IDK what to expect here either. I think CG had more depth overall. JC lost Smothers and Pearce. CG lost a 2x championship Def MVP and 3 championship game experience, 4 year varsity starter on defense (Mason) and a FBS WR. that experience on field hard to replace early season. i think JC questions will be on offense (RB/QB) and CG on defense (secondary). This will be one to watch up front as I think the front 7 of both defenses will be outstanding. I do suspect the continuity on CG offense (QB/WR) might be the deciding factor
early season. CG had a few RBs show up in the championship. I think JC QB is a ? because he may be asked to do a lot more early.

CG will win convincingly. not a blowout but convincingly. CG is the real deal and will be a problem on the 4AA level for years to come. Chambers lost too much to over come from game one.

funny to see this. shows how HS football changes so fast. a few months ago folks here and on the charlotte observer show said CG didn’t have one player who would start at JC. after the championship game they had more talent than JC…. 🤨

Hmmm. I've always been consistent in saying CG is very talented and more talented as a whole than Chambers. Chambers had more "stars" but along the lines CG was just much more dominant. Even from the first game last year once CG figured out Chambers they have outscored them what 34-2? Expect the Chambers offense to be pedestrian and Clark to have a BIG day.

Being 4 complete years removed from Brand, losing Ferebee, Pearce, Harbison and Smothers will be tough. Said last year that Grier was very underrated and would be missed. No shot at any coach, just an analysis. But Brand and Ferebee may have been two of the best coaches to EVER coach in CMS.... vs. a coach who struggled in Greensboro.

You can't put a lot into scrimmages, but watching Cardinal Gibbons against the Creek. I believe Chambers will pull this one out. Also, Littlejohn will be a plus on the offensive side for Chambers. Unless Gibbons was setting out players? I don't believe they have the personnel. We'll see what happens!

Different perspective. A lot of commentary about the unknowns for both teams but I expect the game to be competitive as there is talent and good coaching on both sides. This game doesn't mean a lot in the grand scheme. It is two of the best teams in the state, two that could meet again in the finals like last year, teeing it up early in the season. Kudos to both schools for not padding the early OOC schedule and not backing away from this game. Too many "potentials" don't want to risk a smudge on their record early in the year and then collapse in the mid or late rounds of the playoffs the first time they see adversity. One or two early season losses to top talent will not kill a trip to the house and potentially a championship as Gibbons proved last year. As the great philosopher Rick Flair says, "If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man!"

Always, this time of year. Plan on late nights at the ball park and/or postponed or cancelled games. The other time of the year it's like this is during the state finals.

I'm waiting for the complaints to happen more and more about Gibbons playing with public schools. Charlotte Catholic has had to and still has to deal with it. But my response is the same, they are allowed to play in the NCHSAA and they follow the rules. There's no problem at all with Catholic or Gibbons playing in the NCHSAA. Good luck to both of them.

Gibbons will get a look at a private school that really does recruit, offer scholarships and pull in top talent from all over the region and country when they meet Bergen Catholic in week 2. IF that game game is competitive or CG wins it will raise the profile of NC football nationally. But i think a lot of the complainers here will see the dofference between a school that recruits and offers scholaships versus a good well run private school program.

They are more similar to Bergen Catholic than they are the public schools they play and its not close. CG nor CC nor any private school should be allowed to play against public schools.

Just like CMS when they cracked down on homeschool, religious, charter, and private school children playing sports in CMS, and the virtual school parents. complaining about going back after COVID. Its your choice but they should have the right to refuse those who don't want the full public school experience but then want to use the public school resources as they see fit. This is what CC and CG do. They simply want to use public schools for sports. They can't compete regularly with privates and its really boring in private school sports so they take the best of both worlds in having no boundaries, restricted enrollment, low free/reduced lunch, affluent parents then dominate vs. schools with tons of issues and they think they are really doing something. Its really shameful that religious schools are allowed to manipulate a public school system because folks are afraid of being the bad guy in calling them out.

1. 82% of schools that voted wanted parochial schools removed. If not for the high number of schools that abstained they would have easily been removed via the votes.

2. The two schools combined have won nearly 150 state tiles since 2000. So just in a little over 20 years two schools have 150 state titles and we think this is normal in what way? 2 schools have won more titles than almost the entire state combined but we think this is normal.

3. Of the 12 Catholic school vs. Public school championships this past year throughout the country the Catholic Schools won 9 of 12. Its not even a NC problem but a country wide issue of football playing Catholic Schools dominating public school counterparts. IN PA, FL, CA, WA, MI, OH all had protest/debates because the Catholic non-boundary schools were winning at such an alarming rate. Having no enrollment boundary, and playing against schools with a limited boundary is is simply not fair to public schools. The students going to the Catholic Schools are going there specifically to play sports and are recruited among their communities to play sports at these schools. They have CHOICE, public school students do not.

4. Sport relative? Nope. If we think the football dominance is the only issue the other sorts are worse. Catholic SChools dominate women's sports, baseball and all country club sports also. Its funny how we can easily see how they could dominate country club sports but cant see how they have destroyed womens sports competition, and how this dominance wouldn't carry over to football. Its hypocritical

Sure there is no problem to you because you get the direct benefit from being a private in a public league. We should make the Catholic Schools accept the worse performing students from public school in exchange. Let any student who wishes to attend CC or CG be automatically accepted tuition free. in exchange for being allowed to use public schools for sports.

I think I seen this before...many times. It now is starting to appear to be a repeated cut and paste. I think most of the frequent posters, whether they agree or disagree, know how you feel BigDad. In fact I have almost got the words committed to memory. Kinda like a bad song you can't get out of your head. I am a big fan of the pot stirring and the provocative pokes on this board, but the next time you get triggered by this topic, try something new. You have demonstrated the ability to be quite creative on occasion, even if I disagree with you most of the time.

Not pot stirring at all. Booner and Mr. Honda brought it up not me. Just presenting evidence and reasons why people complain about CC and CG. Its nothing against them personally its just that they are privates. Football wise they are excellent programs and should be admired. CG is gonna go on a big run the next few years IMHO. Chambers is gonna drop off, and no other top contenders in the Charlotte area IMHO outside of Hough, Chambers and possibly RC can compete with them. CG is a legit national team. CC can't compete on the 4A level so they will just be a good team with no ships especially with no subdivision. They will look to get back in 3A soon just watch and see as the loses pile up in 4A.

It's being played in South Carolina? Wow.

Are other SC teams playing the same day? May be some type of event. I'm not sure.
They'll be playing at Rock Hill District 3 stadium, part of Turf King Football City Invitational. The other teams playing Gaffney vs South Pointe. They allegedly moved the game for more seating. District 3 seats nearly 9000.

I used to really root for Vance/Chambers alot. Huge Brand fan and I thought what Ferbee and the staff did that first year after struggling some in the regular season was impressive. That said, as time has gone on the antics on social media of some of their coaches and AD have really made it hard to root for them. They really take this " disrespected" narrative to far at times. I get when we see the kids doing it but when it comes from the adults in charge it's disappointing.
Really wish they would try harder to clean it up some.

Not sure I follow the logic on moving this to Rock Hill for seating. If capacity is a concern, there are better options. No slam here. I have been to the Rock Hill stadium and it is an absolutely great high school venue. But it is 25 miles south of Charlotte and in another state. However, Charlotte spent significant money to renovate the old Memorial Stadium for high school events such as this. Not sure if availability is playing into this. Charlotte University also has more capacity and is literally in Chambers' back yard.
