Catholic gave up 26 points and 34 in their first two games. PD arguably has much greater pop on offense than anyone we have played. We can score some, but can we slow them down at all to give ourselves a chance. Would have to think PD a big favorite here.

Old school Charlotte Catholic is their best chance, ground and pound 90 percent of the game and minimize PD's possessions. Catholic pass defense is the worst I've ever seen it and I think Brodowicz may bring pressure on occasion to try and break the PD passing game timing, but it's only so much you can do. Should be another high scoring game.

Pretty much spot on. Catholic will need a few breaks, turnovers and to sit on the ball as much as possible. Their system can psychologically mess with more talented teams if they can execute it and they have done it for years. They need to keep it close as this one could get out of hand quickly. I have seen Weddington this year in a scrimmage and they looked solid front to back. PD literally torched their defense almost at will and that is scary. PD did give up a lot of points though and Weddington made some mistakes that hurt. Catholic has a chance but very little margin of error in this one. It is a home game for Catholic and that is one of few stadiums at the high school level in this area where home field is truly an advantage.

6 - 0 providence day half. CC had first and goal from the 8 and 10 but failed to score. PD had a first and goal from the 4 and failed to score, but converted an a first and goal from the one. NO PUNTS till 30 seconds left in the half. Long sustained drives from both teams.

I tell you what, I respect CC but you do not want to be in a close game with them at their place and the refs. If your going to beat them, your going to have to do it convincingly.
PD has not punted the ball once, they fly down the field and turn it over, far from done as they are driving hard again

Great game. Congrats to Providence Day as they made the plays they had to make. Both teams left points on the field in the first half. PD has talent but this was talent versus a very disciplined system. Catholic played the type of game they wanted and probably had a 2:1 time of possession advantage. PD blocked a FG and critical PAT at the end. It looked like with 1:50 on the clock and Catholic on the PD 5, PD let Catholic score. Appears to have been a good move as it gave them just enough time to march down the field and score the winning TD with seconds left. Catholic will watch the film and kick themselves for missed opportunities. Conclusion. PD is either not as dominating as advertised or Catholic is much better than they have been given credit for thus far. In the grand scheme, the game doesn't mean much beyond pride for either team but both will learn a lot from this game as they head into their conference schedule.

Tom Knotts used to like to scrimmage Catholic. Said they took you out of your comfort zone as they fought you in a phone booth for four quarters and gave you a lot of looks that you do not deal with.

How has the QB from PD looked? Real deal?
throws were either a strike, or a couple interceptions that did not look great. In the end he took them down the field with about a minute twenty two left in the game and won. Catholic REALLY ground and pounded them and kept PD's offense off the field. Pd only had about 1 1/2 possessions per quarter. I agree with jojr1 PD let CC score from 1st and goal from the six as they had not stopped our run game and needed time for there offense to score.

Thanks. I was just curious. He has some big offers.

Wow! Sounds like a great game and comeback. Is PD the next new dog in the yard to follow in that part of North Carolina?
Potentially and maybe more. They have communicated the intent to be like a John Bosco, IMG, St. Francis and other "national" high school programs. They are not quite there yet but appear to be on their way. They beat a very good Weddington team last week. Last night they scraped by Catholic at Catholic, playing against an extremely disciplined smash mouth, running team, a game that was definitely not in their comfort zone yet they found a way to win. They have the coaching. They have been given the resources and they are starting to accumulate the talent. If they continue to win, (and send kids to top D1 programs) they will only attract more of the best players from the area and they CAN give scholarships because they are a private. Downside is few teams in the area, including the local privates, will want to play them and they will have to play out of area teams just to fill out a schedule.

Iron sharpens iron. Whether CC loses by one point or twenty, the community as a whole hears and feels it. A complete catastrophe. No matter how great your program is, there will come a time some will win, some will lose. Lastnight it was CC's night to lose. Lastnight a program with greater dominance raised the bar and performed better than expected with increased expectations. Congrats to CC on a great game. Congrats to PD on a great win. Until next time, success to both programs.

I don't know that a Catholic loss is a complete catastrophe. There are quite a few that take delight when it happens. They are not afraid to compete and over the years have scheduled teams they had probably no business scheduling. Is PD setting the bar now in Charlotte? Maybe. At this stage they are just learning to win with the bullseye on their back. Going forward, I don't see Catholic backing away from PD and not sure what the future schedule for either team looks like. It has been a while since they have played and hopefully this is the first in a new ongoing series.

I have yet to see an elite team from NC or SC this season. I do not think there is one and it appears to me the teams are not quite as strong across the positions as they have been in some years past. Participation is down, also.

For Providence Day to be a nationally elite team they will need to seriously look at who they can bring in and when. Doubtful you see many senior year players coming in. Not sure now, but a few I have known to go there in the past from a public after freshman year went through a rigorous testing and review. The acceptance via the academice aspect I think may be the biggest hurdle Coach Grier faces. His ability to build a program and sustain excellence is off the charts. I hope he gets all the support needed.

This is all true. The resources are all there

How does this CC team compare talent wise to the 3A championship teams?

I know the elite coaching hasn't changed.

Didn't a lot of that holding pd to 21 have to do with the offense chewing up clock....saw a post where someone said catholic had ball entire 3rd quarter....if pd never got the ball very often I imagine it made it easier on the defense.
