When he saw this team practice, he had to know this team was crap - Stans could get us in the tourney but no farther, Looks like De Ja Vu and Jans is making some big bucks too .

The game has changed. These exorbitant salaries for both players and coaches, and renegade players brought in for one year in a time due to NIL have changed the landscape. Boosters and alums are prodded to give, give, give, and the only ROI is to win. There is no more "development period" or "down year" with the money being tossed around. Get it done now or get out is today's college sports mantra. Get it fixed Jans or get out. He makes too much money to not provide us with a competent team which right now we don't have.
Dang right! We (MSU) should only be giving 1 year coaching contracts. If you can't show good progress within 1 year, YOU ARE OUT !!! ***

Let's see what this season holds. Right now we look lost. We've had this trend of looking lost several games last season. Like we stumble out of bed onto the court without any motivation. Just hoop a little, win or lose, and go back to the dorm room to play video games. The who really cares vibe.

He deserves the chance to fix it.
How exactly? No coach these days is developing anything. Just give him ANOTHER try at the portal and hope and pray it works out? A new coach with a fresh set of ideas can do exactly the same.

At best next year we roll with Hubbard and a brand new cast. But if I was a betting person, would imagine that Hubbard has had enough and is going to try something different with his final year.

Fair or not, if he misses the tourney, Jans is going to be judged on his 3 one and dones while his counterpart up the road has already made a sweet 16 in less time.

It's 90% of our fanbase. Everyone is just fine with losing because that's what we've done for 100 years. No one wants to step up and say no, we expect better now. Just a total loser fanbase except for their precious baseball program, which in the grand scheme of things is basically a club sport
This board are the 90% losers in this world of instant gratification. It’s pathetic how so many of you wallow in negativity. The Monday morning qb’s on this board were all predicting we wouldn’t win 3 games. The team wins more and shows improvement; however, you miserable ***** continue to **** on the program. I admit my disappointment in coaching decisions on games we should have won, but I’ve seen improvement. Fast forward to basketball and now the first coach in States history to go to three consecutive NCAA tournaments and suddenly he’s a bum. The key board think tank on this site are pathetic losers.

Incredible out of the box thinking. This way of thinking would most definitely attract the most regarded coaches and players.

There’s the rub. Doesn’t matter where he ranks in terms of highest paid coaches if we aren’t also paying for the players. It’s essentially money down the toilet. John Wooden himself couldn’t succeed in today’s game if you didn’t buy him an adequate roster.

What we’re seeing is the result of outsized spending on the football roster, O’Conner, and to a lesser extent….baseball portal players. Its a zero sum game, folks.
Basketball has a pretty nice lump of money to use. His problem to me is talent evaluation. Whoever is doing the talent evals needs to be canned because some of these guys don’t even fit.

What’s alarming is how bad they are defensively. If they were just slightly competent defensively they would be 4-1. They’re scoring enough to win games but the defense has been rough….poor rotations are killing them.

The transfer portal era has made it significantly harder for Jans to sustain the elite defensive standards of his earlier years that made him different. The portal hasn’t just added players, it’s subtracted continuity, buy in, and development needed for his defensive standards that made him a known and successful with average players. In the old days he could keep a core together for 3–4 years and win with his defensive identity. Now with that defensive edge gone and not the same because of the transfer portal NIL era, all he’s left with is an average defense and a very common and generic offense, and average players to go with it. This era of portal and NIL do not favor Jan’s developmental style needed
