What about the half dozen or so other roads into the Easthaven neighborhood off of Clinton Blvd, Hwy 80, and even Shaw Rd?

Do they think criminals from Jackson don't have maps?

The other roads off Shaw Road going to Easthaven are already limited access roads as they go to an apartment complex owned by RTS that can be and is often easily gated.

The aldermen are just calming down the women and sackless alleged males. That's all. All govt can do is displays of activity that appear to "do something." It doesn't have to actually work, or be efficient, or even appropriate. They gon' do sump'n.

They should send Clinton cops to sniper school and advertise this fact. Then build a tower with shaded windows.

Done.

Inquiring minds wish to know....

Is this a problem all over Jackson? Do the Jackson thugs routinely go to the suburbs and rob people? I saw the other day that some people in a church parking lot on Ridgewood Road got held up. Sort of concerning wouldn't you say? Who's carrying a gun at church, you know? If it's this bad, why would anyone want to live anywhere around the City of Jackson and it's suburbs? I know a person who got robbed in their driveway out in the NW Rankin area of the reservoir. Just because you have a gun won't keep these thugs away. How will they know until you pull it? And at that point, you're in a life or death situation. You better be willing to use it.

I guess my question is, how do you stop it without the cities and police stepping in? Nobody wants to live in a war zone.

I don't know of any Rankin Co crimes caused by Jackson thugs. I think Clinton is more prone do it because they don't have a river separating the cities.

What about Madison/Ridgeland? I figure they may be susceptible due to Jackson to the south and Canton to the north.

I don't carry at all. Only at home or when I travel (and only in case I break down on the side of the road). I don't have a conceal-carry permit. If I felt like I needed that then I'm probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Ridgeland has a problem. County Line road is the new Metrocenter area. Plenty of crime on Country Line Rd and plenty of break-ins in Ridgeland apartments in that area.

Canton is no Jackson.

All the communities around Jackson have probably started conversations (behind closed doors) on how to handle the much anticipated further deterioration of Jacktown. You can pretty well bank on that.

Madison

and Flowood PD do NOT put up with suspicious characters. If you're driving a beatup ghetto sled with Hinds tags in either of these areas, you're going to be noticed by them. If you do something to warrant (and maybe not) being pulled over, they will mess with you. They're firm believers in profiling and I see nothing wrong with it. If you're not doing anything wrong, then you've got nothing to worry about.

If you have a gun in your vehicle "when you travel" and don't have a permit I hope your travel doesn't include Alabama or Tennessee. They do not allow firearms in vehicles without a permit like Mississippi and Louisiana.

Can't lump Madison and Ridgeland together. Madison has Ridgeland as a buffer, plus police who pretty loosely define probable cause for anyone with a non-Madison county tag...

Plus Madison doesn't have the type of retail businesses that attract crime like Ridgeland does.

With the election of that clown and socialists, American hating mayor, the surrounding communities have to beware of future crimes! What a mess!!

I used to live in Clinton on Hwy 80 about 50 yards from the Jackson city limits when I was a MSU coop student. I have never heard so many sirens go by at night in my life. Had to quit watching WAPT News when I kept seeing murders that happened less than a mile from my apartment every other night. One of them was a decapitation....I was like DAAANG... what level of Hell have I moved to? Thank goodness it was only for a few semesters.

In all seriousness, do you guys think it will ever get so bad in Jackson that Mississippians will decide to move the capitol to another city? I honestly believe Tupelo, Hattiesburg, or Gulfport would make great capitol cities.

It will never happen.

That said, if we can dream, I'd cast my vote for Tupelo.

In Memphis, there was a prime area of real estate on the east side of town, including the Mall of Memphis. It was nice once upon a time. But it became such a public nuisance, with violent crime and general thuggery, they just came in and razed all of it. Someone needs to do the same thing to Jackson. All of it.

Apparently State capitols used to get moved all the time back in the 1800s (not just for the civil war either).

Didn't know Natchez was the original capitol of Mississippi.

Be wary of where you want the capitol though. Wherever a state capitol is definitely brings some benefits, but it also means all of the government entities for the state will likely move there. Yes that means more jobs but also means more government presence.

The original state capitol of Alabama used to be St. Stevens, AL. This is amazing because if you have ever been there, it only has one street and looks like Whistle Stop from that movie Fried Green Tomatoes.

People can't realize how bad it is in Jackson until you have lived in the area for a few months. If you have an event in Jackson, God forbid, like the LA Riots you might get some serious talks about moving it. Jackson is really about to go to the dogs and thugs with this new mayor though.

It has nothing to do with a river. It has to do with the Hinds county judges & DA that cover both Jackson and Clinton. IF you get arrested and IF you get convicted in Hinds, your sentence won't be nearly what it would be for the same offense in Rankin or Madison. Those judges and their DA will throw the damn book at Jackson criminals spilling over into their communities.

I'd like to point out that as a resident of Belhaven, not ALL of Jackson is terrible. In fact, there is some serious wealth in Belhaven, Fondren, and NE Jackson. I'm from Clinton originally, and the parts that are going down hill are those connected to Jackson.

Take a drive through Belhaven one afternoon if you haven't recently - you'll think you're in a different city (except for the roads).

Edited to mention the ****** roads.

Belhaven is nice, but crime there is still a lot higher than in most of the suburbs.

Mississippi has always been an open carry state. They just made the verbage more clear about concealment with this revision.

Its always been legal to carry on your hip. Nothing new .

All over Jackson, yes, Ridgeland/Madison no. The shopping areas off I-55 just before Ridgeland haven't been as safe as they look for a long while now.

That is correct however, the crime will eventually get to Madison as the crime spreads from North Jackson and Ridgeland. Hopefully, Mayor McGee can figure out some sort of way to stop too much crime from spreading into Ridgeland.

Excuse me if I'm pointing out the obvious, but generally speaking, crime is higher in cities than in the suburbs. And I'd guess that where it isn't, its because the suburb has an abnormally high crime rate.

Its one of the benefits of living in the suburbs. People that live in the city generally see other benefits that they weigh more heavily.

Not exactly. Under the current law, If you have it on your hip, it is partially concealed in a holster, and thus you must have a permit, as the gun is "concealed in whole or in part".
