This recruiting mishap didn't help. I think it's missing a toe or two.....

Yes. The answer is obvious.

Look at what he took over - infinitely worse than what Riley/Frost left Rhule with.

Deion breathed life into the long dead and rotting carcass that was CU football. Anyone who denies this is fooling themselves.
But it doesn't stop there. Now he's allowing it to die & rot once again and he'll leave the program dead & rotting when he leaves.

He'll be remembered like Kevin Sumlin, Mike Norvell & Brady Hoke are. Any success as a head coach will be easily forgotten and will only be remembered for being a failure.

But the Sanders name is engraved into the stadium.

As much as we rip on the guy, replacing Sanders at CU is going to almost be impossible.

In terms of hype, publicity and clicks and so on, the next coach is basically going to be a total nobody. And CU fans won't care if the next coach wins 6 games or 7 games, they had that taste of the insane media coverage, that will be gone.

Buff fans are over it now. Stadium is half full now with Sanders still there

As much as I loathe his antics, I will never pile on another's health issues. I have enough starting to show up myself, and shame on anyone that wants to score points that way.

After all I have been called a "senile old fuhk" here, but wear that proudly, but I took that as the empty headed anger of a basement dweller, so a compliment!

Deion is a charlatan.

You chose Riley/Frost as your base for this discussion so I went back and looked at the stretch from Riley’s first season (‘15) to Frost’s last (‘22). Then I looked at that same stretch for Colorado.

NU - (38-56) 1 winning season (‘16), 2 Bowl games (‘15, ‘16)

CU - (38-55) 2 winning seasons (‘16, ‘20), 2 Bowl games (‘16, ‘20)

I would hardly say the CU situation was infinitely worse, it’s a wash at best. A case could be made for Rhule having taken over a slightly more difficult situation, 7 straight losing seasons without a bowl game. When Deion took over CU was on a 2 losing season streak without bowl games.

Can you imagine telling players on both teams in the nineties that in 15-20 years their teams were going to have the bad records you posted? I went to every one of those games. They were all fun. At Boulder the weather might start out cold in the morning but by game time the sun would come out. I always remember wearing lots of clothes at the games in Memorial Stadium as it was cold and damp.

Just my two cents. Deion is a top 3 cornerback, Hall of Fame player. He does not have much of a coaching history. He had a serviceable QB and an elite set of receivers last year and now the cupboard is bare. He is not building much of a program with very few recruits and a ton of portal transfers. That would imply he will not stay long. And the buyout is not that high on his new contract if another school or pro team wants him. He may or may not continue on coaching. As much as I hate Colorado, I do think he is a positive role model for his players and teaches them the right way to do things. Teaches them respect. Points them in the right direction. So I will give him that.

You completely lost me with "positive role model, and teaching respect."

Do Shady and Hsithead act with respect? I do not think so.Hsithead beat up a high school admin and lost an $11m lawsuit. Is that showing respect?

He could run very fast and is a HOF player, but he does not teach much respect. Hell, he had no respect to others as a star athlete, and is laughable to suggest his style in Boulder was "teaching respect."

Went to several games there in 1981 and 1982. We got tickets for $3 on the walk in. They allowed coolers then, so we had them, but the cokes and 7 ups were adulterated before hand. Was a great time, CU lost every game I was at, that just made it better. Unfortunately I never saw Nebraska whip them.

Funny how much difference a year makes. One year ago, CU was still in contention for the B12 title game, and CFP berth, and they ultimately took home the Heisman, Unitas, Bednarik, and Biletnikoff trophies. Meanwhile we would have missed a bowl game for 9th straight season if it weren’t for Fickell.

But a year later, it’s different.

Memorial stadium - sold out
CU’s stadium - empty

Make no doubt CU will keep him at least 2 more years. He brought the university too much money. Does he have another kid to start at qb lolol.

no fan of deon, mostly cause of the teams he played for /coaches.
but I wonder why cu couldn't have a decent team?
utah seems to be doing good, and I would'nt mind fly fishing or skiing, when in college on a free ride

While NU has plenty of bad coaching decisions to its credit none of them have involved making a coach bigger than the program. While I hate CU, as a fan of college football, its an absolute joke that they retired Deion's son's jersey before Darian Hagan's.
The local media literally wrote a comic book about Ginger Jesus “coming home”. Hell we still have knuckle draggers pining for Pelini, and he did everything he could to get out while he was here. The NU program has 100% been more about the head coach for 25 years or so

i thought i would really enjoy kicking CU when they're down, but it has really lost its sparkle.

at this point it feels like watching someone's card decline with a full load of groceries.

mostly glad it isn't us.

i'm still gonna hate-watch shedeur in the NFL though.
Maybe like watching someone's card get declined who drives a Lexus and just got done walking through the store bragging about how rich they are.

I'm personally loving every minute of it.

CU has gone from worst program on the planet to 9 wins and a Heisman in the 2+ year deions been there

and now may get to participate in the most insane coaching carousel of all time

meanwhile here we are, scratching and clawing our way to what we hope will be maybe better than mediocrity (8-9 wins?) by Year Five

great post as always, OP! Very self aware!

Colorado's 9 wins last season were the product of playing the sisters of the poor. They got exposed whenever they faced a real team.

I was listening to sports radio here in Colorado yesterday. The fact is that the athletic department is in bad shape financially, bleeding money. That was a factor in the AD stepping down last week. The new AD will be tasked with fundraising and stopping the bleeding.

Apparently the media darling that is Deion isn’t creating enough revenue to make up for his $10 million salary and a 3-7 record. The takeaway was that he gets grace for this year, but if next year looks like this year, then Deion will be out. This also jives with some things Deion said this week. I got this, I can turn this around. Yadda, yadda.

Interesting I would have assumed he would have generated more. But that makes sense.
