Now mentioned as gaining steam to be the second QB taken in the draft. Thank you Scott.
Real stats while playing on a team not filled without out of state high school transfers….and we never offered.Wow. 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year in Nebraska and only a 2 star recruit?
He was the 14th ranked player in Nebraska and didn’t get a single FBS offer. His offer list was North Dakota State, Dartmouth, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State.Real stats while playing on a team not filled without out of state high school transfers….and we never offered.![]()
Now there's a relevant question. Zero chance he's the second QB taken.Where is he getting this mention at? I haven’t seen anything
This is a really dumb thread. Your sources are bs as usual. Now mentioned as gaining steam to be the second QB taken in the draft. Thank you Scott.
Frost called with an offer the day after he won the state titleReal stats while playing on a team not filled without out of state high school transfers….and we never offered.![]()
Who says he had to be our only QB recruit. You don’t think not having an offer from Nebraska influenced his ranking? He was the 14th ranked player in Nebraska and didn’t get a single FBS offer. His offer list was North Dakota State, Dartmouth, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State.
The masses would have blown a gasket if we made him our 2021 QB recruit. Plus, we also signed Heinrich Haarberg that year.
I’ll try to find the article and quotes from an NFL draft analyst I read before I posted the thread. It just pissed me off that another local QB we passed on is likely going to end up on an NFL roster. What is that now? Three in the last 10 years? Now there's a relevant question. Zero chance he's the second QB taken.
NDSU and SDSU are going to have at least 4 QBs in the NFL after Payton is signed. Maybe we should take a closer look at guys they offer. It’s obvious our staffs haven’t been able to evaluate high school QBs.He was the 14th ranked player in Nebraska and didn’t get a single FBS offer. Maybe they should look at what better programs like the other Blue Bloods do. Nebraska has 1 QB drafted in the last 30 years and only 7 in 90 years.NDSU and SDSU are going to have at least 4 QBs in the NFL after Payton is signed. The kid had offers from ZERO FBS schools. I’m not interested in trying to find diamonds in the rough when we can’t even beat Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Northwestern on a consistent basis.Who says he had to be our only QB recruit. Thanks for linking that.
"According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, multiple personnel executives now view Payton as the clear No. 2 signal-caller in the class, with high second-round grades and a belief he could ultimately climb into the back end of Round 1."
Correct, but we’re talking about high school recruiting, not transfer portal. And that guy you want to mention couldn't even throw for 200 yards and had a 10:7 TD/INT ratio. Not sure if that’s the guy we want to rub our clits about.Iowa beat us with a transfer from SDSU at Qb.
Nobody on this board would want to tackle him. I'm ok if the Jets take him at pick #44.Now mentioned as gaining steam to be the second QB taken in the draft. Thank you Scott.
He’s going to test great at the combine and gms will feel warm and fuzzy in their secret places. But, he has a long hill to climb and is really a 7th rounder, and NOT a first day pick. He's #11 on NFL Draft buzz.
We all agree on that.He was also clearly a much better football player than Haarberg.
All’s this means is how weak the draft will be drafting QB’sNow mentioned as gaining steam to be the second QB taken in the draft. Thank you Scott.
Nebraska has not proven they can develop anyone at any position unless they stay there 7 years. I am of the opinion it isn't where they are ranked coming out of HS its more about development which we stink at.NDSU and SDSU are going to have at least 4 QBs in the NFL after Payton is signed. Maybe we should take a closer look at guys they offer. It’s obvious our staffs haven’t been able to evaluate high school QBs.
Not a surprise, Wyoming and the Dakota schools have been literally infinitely better at producing 1st round qb talent than Nebraska. NFL likes big tall, thicc qbs...durability is a big issue in the nfl.Now mentioned as gaining steam to be the second QB taken in the draft. Thank you Scott.
I disagree. It's a great thread to discuss Cole Payton and other athletes from the smaller schools. My favorite day in the NFL is the DRAFT! I love to see players that I have followed get drafted and others that were pumped up, to fall in the draft. I love it!!!This is a really dumb thread. Your sources are bs as usual.

Just wait until Chubba signs with an NFL team. Kong will lose his mindHe’s going to test great at the combine and gms will feel warm and fuzzy in their secret places. But, he has a long hill to climb and is really a 7th rounder, and NOT a first day pick.
Brock Purdy is irrelevant. Trey Lance flew off the board, by the 49ers of all people.
And that is part of the problem. Too many fans care about style points and getting that one last four star so that our recruiting class will be ranked 19th instead of 28th. Never mind that the four star kid is lazy as sin or has two blown ACLs.The masses would have blown a gasket if we made him our 2021 QB recruit. Plus, we also signed Heinrich Haarberg that year.
They've been developing better NFL talent period. They have been out working and developing our program for several years now.Not a surprise, Wyoming and the Dakota schools have been literally infinitely better at producing 1st round qb talent than Nebraska. He won’t be . And who is mentioning this? Now mentioned as gaining steam to be the second QB taken in the draft. Thank you Scott.
Link was posted above. Somene said it, so it is so.He won’t be . And who is mentioning this?
#2 is hindsight bias. Nobody would ever suggest recruiting a 2 star QB with bad mechanics in the middle of Scott Frost’s obsession with Adrian Martinez.Todd McShay said that he throws like Tebow (bad), but that he has near perfect ball placement (good).
My takeaways- (1) Cole Payton would have been a better QB than Dylan or TJ last year. (2) Nebraska should have recruited him out of HS. (3) If he went to NU, he would not be as good as he is today. We don't develop talent.

But Booth wasn’t the only running back they landed in that class Jamarion Parker was the other from St Louis.I'm not sure about the "masses" blowing a gasket. Lots of times when these instate "projects" get offered people find a way to justify it because said kid was an instate guy.
I can't speak directly to Payton but a guy like the RB kid just a year ago (Booth) is an example. Personally never liked the offer because like the Dayton offer I felt like we could do better.
Holla
I was very in favor of us recruiting Payton.Kong?
