I was surprised at that as well.
I wonder what they are paying him? Stanford's history is to pay pretty well - but maybe they are "ratcheting down" with the likely demise of P12 football.

All that said, when Nick Saban got his first Big Time HC job (at MSU) he had all of 1 year experience as a HC (In the MAC, so a (slight) step up from Sacro State. He did have a much more extensive resume as an AC, to be fair). That worked out pretty well for all concerned parties.
Some other pretty successful guys were largely high school coaches for most of their career, before getting a big time gig (Malzahn? Freeze?)

Bottom line, if you can coach you can coach... but this does seem a lot like Faust being hired by ND.

It’s many years ago now, but it’s strange that he went from Cal to high school. And he was just an assistant coach in high school right after Cal.

What did he do between 2004 and 2012?

Don't know what "Stanford material" is but they hired Buddy Teevens after he went 2-9, 4-8, 1-10, 2-9, and 2-9 at Tooolane. Must have been the Dartmouth pedigree.

The there was the memorable experience of Wlat's two years on The Farm.

He was the color man for Cal football radio broadcasts.

Terrific hire by Wisky. Nothing’s ever a slam dunk, but Luke’s done great things at Cincy. Good for Bucky for going for it here.
Yeah, I concur. A wise decision especially if he can draw some talent out of OH. A key for finally, structurally, beating OSU is damaging their recruiting efforts. They are national but with Riley at USC, Smart at GA, an aging Larry Johnson and our high T recruiting in VA/MD, they can be slowed a touch.

Saw his introductory press conference on the BIG Network today. Humble and grateful guy. Forgot to thank me for his success but remembered a long list of others that impressed me. If Purdue is patient with him, I get the sense that he can grow into a good coach. Right now, the arena seems a touch large for him. But, he seems like a good quality guy.

Source: Panthers owner, Jim Harbaugh talked coaching job

See the link below. From the article:

“CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Panthers owner David Tepper has had a conversation with University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh about the opening Carolina will have for the head coaching position once the 2022 season ends, according to a league source.

The conversation was not characterized as an interview, the source said.

Interviews will not begin until after Carolina (6-10) finishes the season under interim coach Steve Wilks on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Wilks, according to league sources, is considered a strong candidate for the fulltime job after replacing Matt Rhule following a 1-4 start and putting Carolina in position to win the NFC South before a Week 17 loss at Tampa Bay.

The conversation between Tepper and Harbaugh, whose team lost to TCU on Saturday in the College Football Playoff semifinals, was first reported by FOX Sports Charlotte, the team's broadcast partner.

Harbaugh has "sincere interest'' in the Carolina job, according to FOX Sports Charlotte.”

a bit of a surprise, a bit of a head scratcher:

Schiano might be going Jumbo along his OL and might want a coach familiar with running g such an offense OR he wants someone who can figure out how to beat PSU.

He could have hired worse

A friend of mine played for Princeton while he coached WR there. When PSU hired him he said he couldn't remember him at Princeton, and my friend was a backup at a top offensive position. 🤣
