Saw a radio guy from Arizona said on twitter, that Nebraska put feelers out last week to see if we could return to the Big XII. I don't buy into it at all. Would make no sense to look into. It would be like saying someone is looking to get rid of their new Lexus to trade in for a 10 year old Saab with 150,000 miles on it. Maybe the Saab will drive fine, but a lot more chance that something will go wrong with it.

Why do people keep claiming that Nebraska has any interest what so ever in returning to the Big XII? It doesn't make one bit of sense. Heck even Grandpa Snyder said we want back in. I think it's B.S.

stability and money,
I wonder if the big 10 network will continue to out produce, if in the future cable packages are replaced by the net?
and if the powers that be are still looking for 4 super conferences? to make the playoff system.

the big 10 network looked a lot more appealing to Nebraska then the lhn.
and the big 10 leadership seemed a lot more stable.

if things change in the future, who knows?

I'd go back in a heartbeat.

People on this board say that no one wants to come back and journalists write fluff pieces saying no one wants to come back, but how do they really know? (hint, they don't)

I have heard plenty of people that would like to go back.

There is no way to really quantify or accurately know what that percentage is though.

I enjoyed football (and baseball) more in the Big 12, but everything else seems to be better for the University in the B1G. $$$, academics, etc.

Why the hell would we go back to that disaster of a conference? Good grief......I'd set my head on fire if we pulled something crazy like that!

JMHO, but I can't see any way Nebraska puts out any feelers about coming back and keeping that quiet. Until there is hard evidence out there that this has happened, I'd say people are delusional.

Lay off the drugs Tim.

Let's see if this sounds like a brilliant idea...

After five years in the Big Ten where we're sitting one year away (finally) from a full athletic share in what's about to be the richest P5 conference (again) by far, let's explore heading back to the dumpster fire Big Xii. Also, screw being a member of the CIC and their $8 billion annual research pool and trying to elevate NU's academic standing to unprecedented levels. Let's head back to UT's playground so we can play drivable road games in Lawrence, Manhattan and Ames!

It never ceases to amaze me what these attention whores will dangle as click bait. Here's the wannabe Chip Brown in question:

Anyone on this board that tells you they don't miss playing a lot of the old Big 8 teams is probably lying. But you cant go home again. Mizzou & CU are gone, two schools that we rather enjoyed beating. Is the B1G as fun as the old Big 8 or Big 12? Hell no. B1G is a basketball conference for the most part.

How can playing teams like Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa & Minnesota really be exciting? Hell playing Wisconsin isn't even that fun and their pretty good most years. They just aren't very sexy. All the attractive teams fell on the other side on the conference (MSU, Michigan, tOSU, PSU). We basically got screwed like we got screwed ending up in the North of the Big 12, basically a boring division.

Maybe it will be different for the young generation growing up, because that's all they will know. Maybe they will get hyped playing the Hawkeyes. I just don't love it as much. But again, we cant go home again. We are in limbo. The bastards of the B1G. We aren't really wanted. We have no good rivals and we have no where to go.

It is my sincere hope that this tired conversation will be dead in a few years time. We are in the B1G, that's not going to change. The upgrade is undeniable. Comparisons between the two conferences are laughably onesided.

We still talk about whether or not Solich should have been let go or not, so it's probably not going to happen. BTW, I think he should have been given one more year :)

Hey now, don't go ruining my dreams with your prudent observations!

Edit: I guess for me I just don't get the pining many have for that conference. Our Big 8 brethren gave us the proverbial finger for years siding with Texas. Oklahoma bailed on us citing their Texas rivalry as being more important. When many members of the conference were looking around at other conferences, they had the audacity to give us an ultimatum about remaining loyal to them!!

Add all that up, and throw in the FACT that the B1G is superior in almost every way, and it just makes me baffled as hell as to the other side's thought process.

Lying??? Where is that coming from? I'm calling BS on that.

There is nothing from our old alliance I miss other than Oklahoma. I miss that Oklahoma rivalry. I have no love nor admiration nor nostalgia for any of the other teams from the Big 12.

You ask how can it be exciting playing the dregs of the B1G. Do you not remember all those snooze fests we endured for decades vs most everyone in the Big 8?

Husker win% since 1962 vs...
Missouri - .755
Colorado - .827
OK St - .915
Kansas - .918
Kansas St - .878
Iowa St - .867

In every one of those cases our win% at their place was nearly as good as the overall win%. I listened to or watched nearly every single one of those games at home since 1962 (unless I was in attendance) and the most common thing I experienced was falling asleep on the couch somewhere around the middle of the 3rd quarter.

The Big 12? Boom! Right off the beginning we lost the Oklahoma rivalry. Major suck! But hey, we got Baylor (10-0 v them), Texas Tech (7-4 v them) and A&M (9-3 v them). Only Texas gave relief from all that boredom.

Wallow in your nostalgia all you want but don't ever think those of us who never want to go back are lying.

I do miss playing the old Big 8 foes. Probably because it is because who the Huskers were playing as i grew up, I do miss this a lot. With that said, I like the new conference. I do hate the Purdue and other ****** games because it is a lose-lose situation, but I do like the Wisconsin, Iowa, MSU, OSU, MU games.

For me, screw Oklahoma, they had two chances to keep the rivalry alive and chose not to. Twice.
Agree that Oklahoma was a major player in the loss of that rivalry so screw then for that, but that was a blood pumping series of games. For a long time.

Never said "think those of us who never want to go back are lying". I said "Anyone on this board that tells you they don't miss playing a lot of the old Big 8 teams is probably lying". I also said we cant go back. Missing playing some of those teams and wanting to go back are 2 different deals.

I loved playing Colorado. Those games in the late 80's & most of the 90's were better and really more hyped games then OU vs NU in those days. I stand by my statement. Sorry that winning big over Big 8 teams bored you and that you lost interest in the huskers in the 3rd quarter. I highly miss those days. Those were the days you could see the second string get PT and it was a game with in a game. I'm happy for you that you find more joy in close games with Illinois and Purdue than beating up the Jayhawks and Iowa state.

I keep saying this- we are basically in the old Big 8 again just with different colored jersey's on the opponent and a lot more money.

B1G West Big 8
Nebraska = Nebraska
Purdue = Kansas
Minnesota = K State
Wisconsin = Colorado
Iowa = Mizzou
Illinois = Iowa State
Northwstrn = Okie State
Crossover opponent or East champ = Oklahoma

Maybe we can find some common ground to agree on but we're not tracking that way right now.

Never said "think those of us who never want to go back are lying". I said "Anyone on this board that tells you they don't miss playing a lot of the old Big 8 teams is probably lying".

I see the difference but it's more a difference without distinction.

Uh, the game. Lost interest in the game - never lost interest in the Huskers. Those games tho... woof!

I'm happy for you that you find more joy in close games with Illinois and Purdue than beating up the Jayhawks and Iowa state.

^^^This I never said. Loser opponents are loser opponents and we had six of them out of seven Big 8 opponents. Not so in the Big Ten.

But that's just because of the current state of our program. TO Huskers would roll through the B1G West just like we did the Big 8.

No doubt. Yes the B1G West is weak and we should own it most every year. But I do think our six West opponents would have had a winning record v the bottom six of the old Big 8. No way to prove it of course. I do see it that way though.

Furthermore, I think the total B1G is better, stronger than the old Big 12 which leads to better crossover opponents.

I realize you matched Okie State with Northwestern for competitive reasons, but they have to be with Kansas State when you consider...

They both wear purple.
They both have "Willie the Wildcat" as their mascot.
They both were all-time doormat programs until unexpected surges in the '90s.

Never mind that Northwestern is a prestigious private school outside of Chicago and KSU is a glorified four-year JUCO in the armpit of America. Other than that, they're a perfect match!

Blow up the BIG 12 & bring back the BIG 8!

An 8 team conference wasn't going to survive much longer in the late 90's and it certainly isn't going to survive in 2016. Enjoy the memories but times change and people/programs must adapt. I feel bad for anyone who gets left out in the cold when the dust finally settles on this whole realignment thing but that's the reality of the college football landscape right now.

the big ten reminds me of the big 12, except ohio state and michigan are not starting their own network. I wish we would go back running the ball, like in the 80's and 90's...I think it would match up with big 10 teams better. throwing game....interceptions with the passing game sure isn't getting it. but at least we got rid of head case bo. I can't believe we had that fullback for so long and didn't use him properly.
