Could Y'all Put up with Bo Pelini as Coach?

I trust you, and the other thousands of NU fans. Way too many red flags. He never won big enough for bringing the meat headed drama that he is known for. Rutgers deserves much better. Someone clean and fresh.

Honest question - what exactly are the red flags? If am missing some, please fill in the blanks.

- Never won big: True, but most, if not all, coaches we get would be in this category.
- Cursing: C'mon, this is Jersey. Most of our grandma's can hang with him.
- Media: Honestly, F'em. As countless other examples have taught us - win and a lot of their nonsense doesn't matter.
- Donors: Most donors would let BP smack them in the face with a ham sandwich for 9-10 wins a year.
- "Big" Donors: This is just too pathetic a topic for even ME to snark at.

Pelini's buyout is based on what he is making at whatever school, however it must be at least the national average for coaches with his experience and record. A school like RU cannot hire him for $100,000 a year and have NU's payment be the rest. If that occurred the NU money stops. If they pay him $2mil a year then that is deducted from NU payment. Somebody on NU board thought that Pelini had to make at least $2.3mil annually at a P5 school to maintain any NU payment.
There is other reasons that we won't get into as to why you folks need to stay as far from him as possible unless you want to see things go down hill. The media there and him would be very ugly and it would get worse when/as Bo got more unfriendly towards them.
You can also hire him if you want all ties with former players to come to an end. Do you want it to where Eric Legrand is not allowed near the team, practice, ect? That is something else Bo does. He creates an us against the world bunker mentality with the team and shuts EVERYONE else out.
He does not also realize that donors are the reason schools have what they have. Donor "pressure" is not really an issue at NU as far as big donors thinking they run the program, however they do expect the coach to attend, speak, ect at donor/alumni functions that are part of his deal and also at least smile when doing it.
Bo's idea of running a fb program is that him and his coaches and players are 100% isolated from all other aspects of the university, alumni, media, and anything else. It is them against the world and there is to be nobody allowed to ever talk to him, the players or assistant coaches.
You don't want him. You will just have to trust me on this one.

He couldn't win big at Nebraska in a watered down Big 12 and a weak B1G west. Calling administrators out and telling fans to f*ck themselves after getting dropped 70 on him like Wisconsin did won't play well in NJ. He couldn't handle Nebraska fans. Think about that for a second. NJ people would eat that guy for breakfast. He wouldn't know what to do. He claimed Nebraska didn't support him. Good luck at Rutgers. We have enough drama. We don't need another Queen.

The principle still remains, at least in certain pockets. We are in one of those pockets, so it would be another shitshow that I'm not sure we'd win. We still would benefit from positive coverage, and even though i don't know if we'd ever get it from Politi (we wouldn't), some of the other coaches might engender fewer slam pieces from other writers.

It remains everywhere. Even in Clemens day it was caveated by the fact that sometimes you can pick a fight and the press wont fight back because they ave more to lose than you.

Also remember Nebraska fired a winning HC before and that didn't work out to well for them.
Frank Solich was 58–19(34–15) and won the Big 12 title 3 times in his 5 years as HC there and was let go after a 9-3 season.
Spin it anyway you want, but Nebraska does some strange firing, in my opinion.

With Cryptic Bill every time you find a source, the organization ships him off to polkaville for violating the circle of trust and you are back to square one.

It has been a known since Bo was hired that former players and coaches were not welcome around the program. No said they did things a certain way then and we do it our way now and that is my rule. Also did away with the black shirt tradition and several other small things that were staples of the NU program because Bo wanted nothing to do with the past nor have his current teams thinking about what had happened in the past. They were to make their own history and traditions.

To the guy asking about red flags. Without going into detail Google where his former d-line coach is now and look to see how much of it Bo got covered up even from the rest of the AD department. There are a lot of skeletons.

The good ole days will never come to Nebraska again with PARITY and that fact that lighting in a bottle came twice back to back coaches. Super rare It has been almost 20 years and 4 new coaches average turnover every 5 years. That average may go down to 4 years with Riley.
They have no home base of talent, hell metro Jersey have more overflow of talent then Nebraska will ever have. All said with all their money they will never be who they were back in the last century
Bo (71%wins) would be a great get for Rutgers to take the next step. But he is tied up with Nb $ for a few years. And screw what the (local) media may or may not do. HELL they may be gone (From my mouth to God's ear)by the time Bo is free.

At Nebraska, 9-4 is considered a bad year even if you're regularly playing on New Year's Day.

At Rutgers, 9-4 and playing in a legit NYD bowl game and you will have the school's complete backing.

Rutgers Ain't Nebraska, and that less than perfect record is why they fired him.

Because 3 and 4 losses a year don't cut it there....even if you're winning 9 or 10 games.

He couldn't handle the Nebraska fan base (who are probably the nicest people on the planet) or their administration who offers a ton of resources and support, even though he claimed they don't at all.

The guy didn't win big enough for as many problems as he causes. Tell the fan base and administration to go **** themselves all they want. But you better win championships.

He didn't, and he may have won 9 games in watered down leagues and divisions, but he got blown out badly, more than a few times. At Nebraska.

No other schools are clamoring for the guy. Rutgers shouldn't be the first.

That is some crazy stuff. No wonder Pelini is toiling away from the big leagues. If he is lucky he might get a coordinator position at some factory, but that is his limit. Guy is a meatheadcase.
