He has at minimum 2 more years barring him pulling a jamie wright and retiring. His buyout is too much.
I think he is out the door in 14 months if he misses the tournament next year. The backwards momentum will be too much and there will be a fresh AD looking to make a move.

This is why I have been saying no way Pike gets 2 more years. The fallout from this is not something you recover from. The reputational damage is going to be bad. Read the comments online after a game, people think our school is a total joke.
I think people really underestimate what a bad look this season is nationally for Pike and Rutgers Basketball.

I think this is right. I could also see Pike dropping down a level after this year. I am sure he would rather focus on coaching and not worrying about NIL and free agency.

Pike would be insane to voluntarily walk away from his contract, not happening.

I guess it depends on what he can make at the next level down. I am sure he and Rutgers athletic department could negotiate an agreement. While you think it's insane, quality of life and happiness have value. The Villanova, Virginia and Miami coaches did it. Chip Kelly did it. I don't think they are insane.

I hear ya. I think wright is different because hes probably making more money right now on tv than he is coaching. Pike didnt really start making generational life changing type money until a few years ago. So if im him, im riding this out and collecting all I can. I cant blame him for that. His agent did a great job and hoodwinked hobbs into a huge long deal with a massive buyout after really not doing much other than winning 1 ncaa tourney game. Its his right to this money, and i cant blame him for riding this out

Life isn't all about money. I don't think you have ever worked a job where you get paid a lot and are absolutely miserable. It's unlikely but several coaches have thrown in the towel on coaching in the NIL era.

For as good as Harper and ACE are on O they are equally bad on D with Ace taking the lead. Would love to see the +/- with ACE on the floor. In my opinion the only one who gets on D on a consistent basis is Ogbole

Remember when all we wanted was someone who could shoot a 3 with some semblance of consistency?

Now we’ve got 2 and yearn for defense…

It is all about learning and adapting. Pike will do things a bit differently and we will put a better product on the floor and the program will get back to where we were. We will be fine.
Where were we last year? Where were we losing to Minnesota? Next year is a below 500 team that will miss the Big ten tournament! Stop

It’s over

I was turned off to Ace’s attitude from the St. John’s game

And it was that game where I wondered when I saw a college team, with such a small and shallow period of winning, with no returning upperclassmen who set the standard of success, bring in 2 top players as freshman, and then win big? It hasn’t happened. I only thought of OJ Mayo at USC. And it wasn’t like this situation.

If Dylan and ace went to Kansas, or duke with coach k, maybe they would have been set straight. At Rutgers, it’s becoming a s&$@-show
Michigan fab 5
Syracuse with Melos class

It was supposed to be ours!
Dylan Ace Lathan Grant and Dortch

Unfortunately Grant waited until this past weekend to finally have 2 great practices so obviously Pike couldn’t play him.

Hopefully Dortch really tries to have his 2 best practices and he can find the floor.

Pikes hands our tied and he really doesn’t want to play mid major guys like JMike and Jwill but he has too!

This is what happens when the perimeter players you bring in from the portal and play the most minutes are both guys who cannot play off ball on offense. In addition to the other perimeter player on the team in Jwill who also is not good off ball.

Acuff, Dercack, Williams - do not fit with Dylan and Ace. This was clear as day in May.

Re: ball movement, UConn has 20 assists on 23 made FGs in their game against Villanova tonight (they’re up 57-55 with 8 minutes left).

That is a RIDICULOUS assist rate.
I watched UConn the last two years in the tournament. Couldn’t believe what I was watching. Nothing and I mean nothing slowed them down from running their offense. Yes, the had lottery players, but it was impressive. Night and day difference from what we see

They do work hard on offense but they also are unbelievable on defense and their defense results in transition scoring which for them is highly effective. For us in transition I feel like I am always wondering how we will turn it over or miss the layup the last two years.

Dam I should bump that thread.
I know HC Pike hangs up if someone asks about minutes or shots.
But elite guys want to know their role.

"Let JWill come off the bench and run the offense while Dylan sits.
JWill takes the Simpson role.
Offer a bigger role to a potential transfer guard and maybe we get a high caliber player than if offering a bench role."

So we raise $20M to fire him instead of raising $2M to fill out this seasons roster?

I don't see it happening. If we do it'll be the most Rutgers thing ever.
Our team is going to be complete **** next year think about it. This era is over. It would be the most Rutgers thing ever to not realize it and let it rot another 3-4 years.

Like they did with Flood, Ash and that thief Stringer.

I think the biggest issue in hindsight was the handling of Cliff last season. The kiss *** kid gloves that were used to try to motivate GG who was a complete bust should’ve been focused on Cliff. The message after Cam and Paul screwed us to Cliff should’ve been - “lets do what we can this year but know next year is our year”. Cliff should’ve been told from the start - think about what we need to come up with to keep you here. He should’ve on a bigger scale been handled the way Pike dealt with Caleb. We need you. Your critical to next season. Let us know what it will take to keep you here. And then we should’ve circulated that somehow to the NIL community.

Maybe but not necessarily.

I have to disagree. We will never again have two top draft picks. If you were a top pick, would you come here?

There are probably 400 college players I'd rather have over Ace. NBA talent that doesn't pass and plays defense occasionally does not move the needle forward.

Really hard to know he wouldn’t be playing defense when he was recruited. But 10 guys who either can’t shoot or can’t play D, now that’s a problem.

Miss the NCAA tournament despite two top-5 NBA draft picks? I don't want that to happen. Gotta root for Ace or Dylan getting drafted 6th or later!

Tell me how many times a team that missed the tournament the year before brought in two top 5 NBA draft picks? Tell me how many times a team has had two top 5 draft picks. Tell me the last time a team had two Freshman who were Top 5 draft picks.

This situation isn’t really comparable to anything.

JWill is a point guard....end of story.
Didn’t you try and tell us Dylan wasn’t a pg because he didn’t play it in high school? Oh and Jwill should run pg for us over Dylan?

I may be wrong due to the level of anger and disappointment I am feeling.

The entire article makes me want to puke, but this quote is especially galling:

"Dylan Harper's a [expletive] monster off middle pick-and-roll," an opposing coach told CBS Sports. "But they're not hard to guard. They don't run around. It's not like four or five people touch the ball and feel involved. If you want to be a good offensive team you have to weaponize the guys around them."
I've been saying that for alot of games. When guys are not in the flow or being passed to when they are open...they will more than likely force bad shots knowing if they pass the ball they will never see it again when they do get it. Get away from watching the ball and the 1v1 and watch everything else these guys are doing and you will see how awful it is...when you have 3 other guys out there whose soul purpose is to stay out of the way...does not make for a successful team.
RU promoted 2 guys and you are not winning with 2 guys it was a huge mistake. I'll say this again when you dont touch the rock in a meaningful role on the offensive side your effort is affected on the defensive side
