Is Brown in the correct classification? They have football tradition with a really good head coach who left Butler when they at their peak. When I see a team get handled like this by other teams within their conference it makes me wonder.

Jacks2starts will probably agree with me when I say the days of kannapolis and Concord dominating this area is probably over.

they will get the win for sure against concord, south iredell and west cabarrus. west cabarrus is winless and i think only scored 25-30 points all year. i think they go 3-1 the last 4 to finish 6-4, i believe numbers wise tonight may have taking them out of the playoffs

Look like ALB only had 30 some players. If they would of had 50-60 players like they use to they would be a dangerous team. I even seen them have up to 70 some at one time. 2nd half looked lot better for them. After being down 20 at one point in the 1st half is a hard hole to crawl out of. My question is why has the number of players went down. Turnout of players made be one of the factors of lack of success.

The big ? at AL Brown High School. How well does the Principal or AD support the athletic program? It makes a difference. I am not a Kannapolis fan, but i do respect the program. I do miss their glory years. It is hard to believe a 4A school like Kannpolis with about 1600 students and only have 30 to 35 players on their football roster. I said this about a year with the growth of downtown Kannapolis with Condos and apartment buildings. The chances are good that Kannapolis can get more good athletes, but instead things seem to have fallen and gotten worse. It looks like Kannapolis might finish 5-5 again this season. Maybe, the glory years will return to Kannapolis football program someday.

Easy to blame coaching when things aren't going well. Everything is all great and good when you are winning. I know several of the coaches over there and they are some of the sharpest football minds that I know. Several of their coaches from the past have also left to take OC/DC/Head Coaching jobs too. Coaching is not the issue.

Kannapolis has not been good at the middle school level either for a while now. They just don't have the jimmies and joes that they used to have. Put on top of that kinds transferring like it's the college transfer portal and they have been hit pretty hard.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news… Newsome gone doesn’t suddenly change things in Kannapolis. Contrary to popular belief in Ktown, you actually have a pretty strong staff. Just flat out lack the Jimmie’s and joes.

Why the hate towards Newsome?
I believe it's due to fact AL Brown has "underachieve" and isn't what it use to be and also I believe last yr a lot folk blame the coaches for some of loss bc of bad plays or time management.

I will still go to the games and support the kids, but I can promise you a fact coaching cost them at least 2 games and maybe 3 with play calling and time management last year. At worse they should have been 8-2.

I think many who refuse to go to games are still living in 1997. Those days are gone. Can Kannapolis be a good football team? Yes! Can they be a good football team under Newsome? Yes!
However, the days of 1989, 97, etc are gone I think. The demographic changes over the last 20 years since the mill closed paint the same picture.

From the outside looking in AL Brown hasn’t been that bad. They had 4-5 seasons where they played in the same conference as Chambers, Mallard Creek and Hough. Those schools had anywhere from 400-700 more students to pull from. Based on those records Newsome did a pretty good job. The last year or two Brown has been down but competitive. It looks like its more of a talent issue than coaching. Sure Newsome could shore up some things but it isn’t like Butler has prospered since he left. Butler has been good and consistent but they were better when Newsome was the coach IMO.

The other night tied the most points scored on a Wonder team at Memorial Stadium since Northwest Cabarrus put 58 points on the Wonders in 2018. There are so many wonderful people, but Scott is one that I can clearly recall. The community of A.L. Brown benefits greatly from the work of that individual. If you ask me, he serves as the Wonders' most ideal role model. Keep up the fantastic work with the Wonder Spirit, my buddy. I sincerely hope that the community continues to be upbeat and to support the program no matter what.

Just thought on this one. Ever since covid I notice some schools football program hasn’t done as well that normally would. There was no football in ‘20 and then they played in spring of ‘21. Then schools got to play back in fall of ‘21. Last year you seen teams that had to move or call off games because they couldn’t find a team to play. It’s like HS football in general has got thrown out of rhythm. Even the number of players for some schools has fell off. Ive heard that it’s said that the top tier teams is down some from what it was from the past. I’m not saying this is the reason for AL Brown situation. But just something I’ve wondered about. JMO

That makes sense to me. It is awful how programs lose such a large number of athletes. The Wonders' best years in terms of Conference Championships and Playoffs, in my experience, were the 1990s, after which the level of competitiveness began to decline.
