I watched some of the Creighton-Butler game after hours and it's the same story with the spacing and 3PT shooting but they don't seem as dynamic or athletic or physical as some of his recent teams.

They're 9-5, 3-0 thanks to a 4-game win streak over Xavier (by 41), Marquette (by 21), Utah State (by 23), and last night against Butler (by 4). It's shot their ratings all back up. They're now #44 KP and were #56 in NET pending update from last night. Seton Hall is #47 KP and was #44 NET.

Holloway is 0-6 against Creighton overall. Creighton is also 5-1 at The Rock in recent years. Ugly. Can we end the drought?

Close out on the 3, dont go for the pump fakes. We are not a jauggernaut on offense so hopefullybwe can muck it up, frustrate them and get steals. If u see us biting on pump fakes, drive and kicks on their part, itll ve a long night

Update: Creighton is #49 in the NET today (0-4 Q1, 3-1 Q2), Seton Hall #45 (2-2 Q1, 1-0 Q2). The game will be a Q1 opportunity for Creighton, Q2 for The Hall.

Big swing game between a 3-1 start to conference play or falling back to 2-2.

I really hope Holloway doesn’t double team on the perimeter.

This is the one program that feeds off the double team and makes the extra pass out of it.

Have to stay at home and only help out Clark if they want to post him down low.

McDermott has been trying all year to figure out somthing that will work with this group. Both of his big transfers flopped (Freeman was a massive whiff, Dix less so). He found a spark in the frosh Hudson Greer, but then he got hurt.

The team lacks toughness, which should give us an edge, especially at home, but McD is a great coach. Honestly don’t know what to expect with this one.

Yeah, we are 2-1, beating teams with a combined 0-5 record (in BE). So this game, which scares the heck outta me, will help us all determine where our Pirates stand!
Interested in which Payne shows up, the Prov/Marq or the Nova Stephon Payne?
I am tired of watching McDermott kick our butts, let's hope The Pirates show up Sunday!

Go Pirates!

Put it in the books freeman will have a career day as is always case against us. Still won't be enough

We have to play them in the mud. No softness. Tough man to man, they know how to get out of the DT and press, press, press. Keep them from the paint.

Hard to have a career day when you’re only playing 6 minutes. Not sure his final price tag, but I’m guessing $2 mil range. Which would make him one of the biggest wastes of money in the country.

Creighton has always been a difficult matchup for us and they have found a lineup that is working for them over the last 4-5 games. They basically play 6 guys with highly regarded Blake Harper, Fedor Zugic and Owen Freeman playing minimally. Traudt and Swartz have been excellent since being put in the starting lineup and Dix, Green and Graves have all been solid also.

Offensively they play 5 out - all 5 starters shoot the 3 well, they shoot it often and their big man Isaac Traudt is their best shooter. This always gives us trouble as it pulls our Bigs out of the paint. They have shot 40.8% from 3 over their last 5 games with 12.8 made 3's per game.

They play fast, they pass the ball very well, they get a lot of points in transition(14.8 per game). They play fundamental basketball. If you overplay the 3 and leave the rim unguarded they will drive where they are very good finishers at the rim (70.7%)

Defensively, they run teams off the 3 point line as they are 11th in the Country in 3-point attempts per FG attempt. Their defensive philosophy is NOT to double-team or over help as that leads to open shooters. They stay with their man, they don't foul, they don't go for Turnovers or Blocks, they get good positioning and put their hands up to make you shoot over them. They try to make you beat them with 2-point shots. They are 3rd in the Country in % of Points allowed on 2-pt FGs (59.0%).

We should be able to exploit them in the Paint as they give up 37.4 points in the Paint and get our share of 2nd chance points. Defensively we have to limit their 3s, make them beat us from 2. Don't overhelp, don't leave our feet and don't ball watch. They lack high-end athleticism and for the first time since 2019 they don't have Ryan Kalkbrenner protecting the Rim. Going to be a challenging game but we owe them some Ls and Sunday would be a good time to start.

Honestly more significant now than Nova game. Can't let the narrative gain hold that we are 5th best team in the BE behind Nova and Creighton. Need to lance this Creighton boil on Sunday - we are 2-8 in our last 10 matchups.

Tired of McDermott and his obsession with the 3 - I recall him going on and on several years ago about how the 2-point jumper is not a good shot after we beat them, I think at Creighton, after Rhoden feasted on his Kobe-like mid-range 2-point jumpers to win the game.

He also disparaged Richmond when we should have beaten them in triple OT if not for the terrible foul call that nullified Dawes' shot. In his presser, he specifically called out Richmond for how many shots he had to take to get to 30+ points. Need to get this one on Sunday with our typically strong defense and hopefully some sharper offense. No silly fouls and stay with your man - they feast on the ball fake like Nova and move the ball even better than some of Jay Wright's teams did.

Expect McDermott to begin working the refs as soon as the the opening jump ball is tossed. Just like Jay Wright he will whine incessantly on every single call never getting a T but always getting the benefit of the doubt. Even on the visitors home court.

I always thought Wright was plus 5 before the game begins and I feel the same with McDermott.

Creighton have been a program that can reload on an annual basis. They are well coached and do a good job of making in season roster adjustments. So, they may have had a rough start to the season, but they are playing much better of late.

Thankfully, Kalkbrenner is nowhere to be found. That alone should change the dynamic of this year's games. They still are so dangerous from three, usually nailing between 10-13 per game. They hit 16 against Xavier. The combo of Austin Scwartz and Isaac Traudt are the two that are the difference makers from the perimeter. I believe Sha will focus on shutting down or limiting one of those two as the game plan.

Hopefully, the team will learn from the Villanova game. They must stay out of early foul trouble and of course play swarming defense. Hines being back should help eliminate some of those easy follow-ups we witnessed in the Nova game. It would be advantageous if we see a strong versatile game from Staton-McCray. He is a dynamic component of the offense. Hard to gage his health at the moment? The team as a whole need to be patient and use the midrange on offense. Maybe we will see a more relaxed Seton Hall team at The Rock on Sunday??
