This football season has gone by so fast but things usually do when you’re having fun. Some teams are fortunate and successful enough to begin the playoffs at home. Looks like win or lose we have to go on the road, but I’m glad we will more than likely get to compete in the post season. The best we can finish our regular season is 5-5, but for us that’s a step forward.
Here are my picks:
-East Burke at Bandys: If the Trojans are healthy they could win this one but the Cavaliers seem to be hungry so I’ll pick them by 7 points.
-Bunker Hill at Bandys: The Bears are tough this year. It will take a good team to beat them. I’m hoping for a good game but the Bears are a little too much. BH by 14.
-East Burke at West Caldwell: The Warriors woes continue. They’ve caught the Cavs right after they've turned that corner onto up-and-coming street. EB by 10.
-Newton-Conover at Maiden: Like us, the Red Devils might be able to aggravate the Blue Devils some but at the end of the day (You know, every time you read a newspaper or turn on the TV someone is saying “at the end of the day”, now, I’m saying it. Maybe I could get therapy. I don’t think it will ever replace the “as we speak” fad), anyway, AT THE END OF THE DAY, Newton-Conover will lose. Maiden by 21.
-Lincolnton at West Lincoln: A long time ago I heard it said that “The East doesn’t like the West, The West doesn’t like the East, both of them dislikes town and town dislikes both of them”. I not sure about that but I had a boss who was from Henry, that’s adjacent to Cat Square, and Frankly, he was a really good boss. One day we were discussing politics. I told him I had the impression that West Lincoln, generally speaking, doesn’t like Washington or Raleigh. He said “you’re leaving out Lincolnton” … West is going to play us as hard as they can. They would rather lose to anyone than us. We are going to have to give it our best effort to win. I think the only reason they played Maiden so close is because their staff told them that “The devil is a wolf in sheep’s clothing” (No pun intended MC, well, maybe a little) … My prediction is Lincolnton by 6.
*Side Note: Dear Lincolnton students spirit section, if any of you read this, please do not break out the talcum powder. I know your intention is to throw it on each other but it creates a cloud that floats up through the stands and even though I wear a face mask I still feel like I breathe it. Please know it's probably detrimental to ocular and pulmonary health. Thanks.
*Side Note: To the West Lincoln cannoneers, if you still have that awful howitzer please don't point it toward our stands when you fire it. If you put enough powder and wadding in it the repercussion feels like someone giving me a hard smack in the chest. Be a good neighbor and point it away. Thanks, and believe me, I'm not just saying this to rouse up the rebel faithful.
