This weeks matchups will be anything but an any given Friday thing. Way too predictable ha ha

Maiden rolls big but hard fight in 1st quarter

Bunker Hill running clock by middle of 3rd

Lincolnton not a problem

West Lincoln and Newton will be the only one that would resemble a battle but alittle too much WL 14 point victory. Years past this would be a joke of a matchup, but something a going on in Vale got these boys a playin good

New England is leading Tampa Bay so I'll give it a try.

Lincolnton at West Caldwell: we made a good showing against Bandys. I hope we can do it again this week but I'm not sure, even against a winless team. Two weeks ago we too were winless. Our team is awfully young and sometimes even seasoned teams are susceptible to being flat after a highly charged emotional game like last Friday. Lincolnton by a little.

West Lincoln at Newton-Conover: The poster 321North said Newton-Conover has athletes and his posts makes a good bit of sense to me so I believe him. It could be that the Red Devils will put things together and begin to click. Until they do I'll have to pick against them against good teams. West Lincoln is coming off of a loss and are going to be eager to redeem themselves. I'll take West by 10 points.

Bunker Hill at East Burke: last week showed me the Bears are for real. Sorry BFR. BH with a decisive win.

Bandys at Maiden: I have heard (only), that at one time, and this has been years ago, Maiden and Bandys students both went to a middle school named Tuttle and many of them knew each other. Again, I don't know if Tuttle even exists now, but that had to have fueled a rivalry which has gone on for a long time. Over the years and because of this rivalry both have probably experienced an upset or two with teams that they expected to win with.
This year's Maiden team is special and even the power of a time honored rivalry wouldn't have much effect. To add to it the Trojans incurred some injuries last week against Lincolnton. Hopefully those injured players will be back, but even so, the Blue Devils are just too much. Maiden by 17 (and that's a conservative prediction).

There’s only 5 undefeated 2a teams in the West currently…and the CVAC has two of ‘em!
Reidsville, Salisbury, East Surry, Bunker Hill and Maiden….gotta be proud of the CVAC conference…that’s good stuff.

Maiden has a tough rivalry game at home against the Bandys Trojans this week. You can throw out the records in this one…. It’s always a good game. Bandys gave us all we wanted in the spring and quite frankly… Maiden was very fortunate to get the win. I did see Bandys play against West Lincoln and …honestly… I thought the Trojans had the better team, but the penalties were just too much to overcome in that heartbreaking OT loss. I wouldn’t count them out…just yet! I’m taking the Blue Devils… but I think its gonna be closer than most think.

Well… I ain’t picking against the Bears!😜 I think they’ll win easily against East Burke. I was very impressed with the Bear defense… they have size and they have speed. Just a side note… the Bears beat West Lincoln without their starting QB…take it for what it’s worth…. But it speaks volumes to me! They’re pretty daggum good!

Wolves - Warriors….this ought to be good. The Wolves are playing in a game as the favorite….for the first time this year! Let’s see how they handle it!😜 The Wolves win over Bandys was eye opening to say the least!….especially avenging that beat down from the spring! West Caldwell has some athletes…but Lincolnton will be sooo physical….and should pull away in the 2nd half. I like the Wolves in this one!

West Lincoln -Newton Conover…is definitely the game of the week in the CVAC. This is a huge game!!!… in the standings….that neither team can afford to lose. I’m still scratching my head over how Newton needed a Hail Mary to win it against East Burke. I can’t figure out the Red Devils….. but they’re still in it….especially if they can win this one. Poor ole West!…. They are a couple 4th and goals away from being at the top of the conference. I’m gonna take the Johnny’s over the Red Devils…. But I’m betting this one goes to the last whistle!

Good luck to all CVAC teams this week!

When I saw the team pic this year of EB, the size of the players at least 4 or 5 of them and all the good talk to how the coach is I thought it was a season they may get a roll going and beat some people. I’ve only seen them against Maiden and they was beat down in every facet 4 or 5 1st downs the whole game, with the lone score coming against the maiden players that won’t see any time during the playoffs unless there’s injuries. What tallent they have is mostly seniors so it’s not looking good for the Cavs for even years to come but I hope I’m wrong. No JVs bursting with tallent either. Just really nothing going for any Burke co school, sad. Bunker Hill has come a long way though, they were struggling for a while.

I did notice at the game when they snapped the ball, DE or 2 for Maiden was blowing past the linemen like tney wasn’t even there(not even a blitz )and was in backfield before he even got 3 steps back to try to pass. Them boys I know have to be better than that. I was suspect of EB when they only best Patton by the small margin that they did and it went downhill after that

And you are correct Mr. Lincolnton, all the Maiden kids and half of the Bandys kids use to roll through Tuttle Middle School before splitting off. It had different variations throughout the years but when I was there it pulled all the Maiden kids and half the Bandys kids (the other half went to Catawba Intermediate) for the 6th grade. So every Friday during football season you'd see 6th grade boys wearing either Maiden rec jerseys or Balls Creek jerseys and an occasional Sherrills Ford jersey (me). After the 6th grade, Maiden kids would stay and Bandys kids would go to the newly built Mill Creek middle school.

It made for the greatest of rivalries, but sadly it isn't as much anymore, the kids don't know how it use to be. All they know is that they aren't supposed to like each other, but the opposite should be true with great rivalries, it's the respect and friendship that makes the competition so great.

It hasn't been the same since the split. Now, Tuttle is an elementary school.

As for the game this week, it might not be much of one at all. JV game was canceled due to Bandys pulling much of their JVs up for the game due to Varsity injuries. Bandys will not have any of their starting D line, QB is out, my nephew is out, their go to WR is out, starting stud at RB/LB out...they're hurting this week and some JVs will be starting.

Good luck to all the teams this week.

As a kid I loved going to Sherrills Ford (Bandys) to play football with the Boger City Steelers. As the crows fly it was probably the closest stadium. Bandys had the best burgers and if you had the early games of the day you could make it home and not miss too many Saturday morning cartoons. Gosh, I did enjoy those times.

If there is one thing the Bandys crowd can cook up...it's some mean mean burgers.

Yes hate to say it but the kids coming up will be easy to coach they gave the Freedom and the Newton game away!! you take the seniors now has been in a losing system for years!! Jv's have some talent but because of covid missed 6 starters against maiden 4 against Bandy's and QB and top RB and top linebacker did not play against Newton Conover!! It will get better maybe not this year!!

Those were the good ole days when the Maiden/Bandys rivalry was sparked by the Tuttle years. For some kids, the Bunker Hill/Bandys was a bigger rivalry because they attended Catawba together. The new middle schools have really had a huge impact on the Bunker Hill/Bandys rivalry as Maiden/Bandys will always be a rivalry, but still not as intense as it once was.

Dadof23,thanks for the comment on Catawba County rivalrys. I hadn't heard of Catawba (assuming it was a middle school) some where around the town of Catawba, but that would have sparked a rivalry, too.
Until I was grown I never knew anyone from East Lincoln and only two boys from West Lincoln who would cross the river bridge to come into town and sell newspapers. The west Lincoln school district came up to the city limits of Lincolnton. It's odd how an imaginary line can have such an effect.
To have gone to middle school with them and then different high schools would have been something else. That would mean you would personally know the guy who was on the opposite side of the line of scrimmage from you.

*Side note: Dad0f23, I say this respectfully, I would guess that your screen name is meant in an honorary sense, because if you are the actual Dad of 23 it means George Washington is no longer the Father of our country. You are !

I am not sure how it plays out now with North Lincoln, but before that the kids in Boger City and Iron Station all went to GE Massey and then the Boger City/Hwy I50/Buffalo Shoals kids went to Lincolnton Junior (later Middle) and Ironton/Iron Station kids went to East. We all grew up playing with each other and then opposed each other starting in seventh grade.

The weather channel website is calling for a good chance of rain. What would the possibility be of Maiden postponing until Saturday or Monday ?

Next to zero. Play the beast while it's wounded, no time to recover, and believe me Bandys has tried. They requested a postponement from Maiden and sent a letter to the NCHSAA.

Thanks GDevil. Seems like Maiden won't hardly postpone games due to weather.
I think it was 1979 Lincolnton had to go to Maiden. The conditions were awful. It poured rain all day and doing the same at game time. I thought surely it would be called off but they wanted to play. We had a good team and were expected to win but the Blue Devils beat us. We slipped and slid and fumbled all game. To add a little salt to the wound, Coach Brown, when asked about the field conditions told the Lincolnton paper "We love the rain". I left Maiden wet and mad and disappointed. The longest 8 mile drive back home ever.
Tell you the truth, though, with as many weapons as the Blue Devils have and as fast as they can go up and down the field, I wouldn't look forward to playing them either.

I mean - do you blame them for wanting to postpone it?
No I don't, they're a victim of circumstance for sure, but it's not our problem to solve. It's on them to adapt and overcome. Maiden has already gone through a "3 games in 8 days" stretch once, postponing this game would force us into another "3G8D" situation. We won't do that to our kids.

Every team deals with having to use the next man up. We've lost several starters ourselves. It's on the coaches to have the backups prepared, that goes for every team.

Bandys has a game scheduled for Tuesday with East Burke….I’m a little confused by all this…but…. I will say… that Maiden does tend to play ball on Fridays. Rain is not typically viewed as a reason to postpone a game.
Lincolnton…. I was there in ‘79 for the “Flood Game” against The Wolves!….from my perspective….that game was a top ten all time game…for me!
I’m truly a “Mudder” ….at heart!

Then Coach Brown telling the newspaper "I love the rain". I felt completely whipped, I'm talking belt whipped.

As far as a good team with with a potent offense and an on-you-in-an-instance defense, the Blue Devils are one large jug of vinegar and all of us in this conference has to take a big drink. Just the way it is.

Believe me, my friend, I don't know anybody that's going to like the taste of them apples. Looks like everything is coming down to a grand finale when Maiden goes to Bunker Hill. I'm convinced the Bears are for real but I don't think even they have an answer for that riddle.

GDevil, I just saw this, not sure how I missed it. That's some good information. Years ago I heard about the Tuttle connection, and wondered how it worked.
About injured players at Bandys I wish all of them the best. Can you give any information on 55 ? I know there was concern about the patellar ligament.

Thanks for asking Mr. Lincolnton. 55 is good. Declared a sprain and he's out this week. Starting next week it depends on how he's feeling. Right now he's bearing weight and is able to post up, but lateral movement feels off and he can't sprint yet.

Blue has turned the ball over on downs to Bandys on their 1st possession.

Bandys punt on theirs.
