I sat in Bert's living room in Smith's Grove a few years ago and we drank a beer and just talked. A good man.
I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. Visited Bert and Sherry many times between 2015-2022 in Smiths Grove on the way to Nolin Lake. He was a genuine Kentuckian through and through, and darn proud of it. His stories were amazing.

RIP, Great sir.

I am saddened on hearing of Bert's passing. We were supposed to meet up at Buckey's a couple of years ago but it didn't work out. He was what we know in and around these parts as a, "Kentucky Gentleman". Our thoughts are with is wife Sherry and their family. RIP
I got a text early this morning! He helped me through the worst time in my life, he had a similar situation as ours with a loss of a grandson.

Hello all, (I have my reasons for leaving the site.)

I do glance at the site several times a week but on this occasion please excuse me...

I will post this, I had hoped to be able to meet him in person but maybe later when it's my time...

I DO hope you ALL are doing well...

God Bless Mr. Higginbotham's family and may they gain God's strength during their extreme loss at this time...

Good morning everyone.

Sorry to point this out but someone posted about Bert in RR if you haven't seen it yet.

RIP buddy. He had sent me several PM's a couple of years ago helping me out on something.
Hate to hear this about Bert. He was a fine man. I went to his house a few years back when we did the 600 mile yard sale. They don’t come any better. RIP😢

Holy smokes, this thread is over 5,000 pages long.

Yeah, sorry to say it, but Bert did pass early this morning.

There is a service in Smith Grove this Friday, then a celebration of life in the spring.

I'm glad to know that so many of you held him in high regard and many of you spent time with him in person. That's phenominal. Great man, great wife, great family.

Can't make Friday service, but might attend celebration of life in the spring. Planning to take in KY Oaks or one of the events at the track during Derby week Apr 26 - May 3.

Yeah, I thought the world of him and Sherry. Very sorry to read of his passing.

Good morning from ATX. 43°F and cloudy.

Chemo again today. Going on 3 years since diagnosis. Given 12-18 months life expectancy back then. Happy to be here, but quite saddened by recent news.

Wishing y'all another great day.
Keep on hanging in there Austin. We still need you here and in the political forum pounding away at some of those morons who don't have a clue.

Good morning folks. Sitting in a freezing subway car halted by a “broken track.” What that means is the severe cold has shorted one of the track sensors, and ever since a halfwit train driver collided with another train 20 years ago and killed a few people they won’t move with a defective sensor.

I hope it is a more cheerful morning for all of you. Said a prayer for Bert this morning. He was always proud of his Higginbotham ancestry, and so I’m imagining him listening to lots of family stories today and enjoying the experience.

Have a great day.

Life comes at us fast sometimes and I thank God every day for the many blessings bestowed upon me and my family. With all that goes on I sometimes forget the good things that have happened to me and concentrate on the bad things. One such good thing I have been blessed with is my ability to be able to continue to play ball. It may seem small to some, but to me it is a big thing. I just haven't been ready to give it up yet. My wife asks when I will stop playing. I tell her "When they quit calling me to ask if I will play with them." The latest being this past weekend. With the passing of our Co-ed coach a couple of weeks ago, our team was not going to the tournament in Wichita Falls TX. so, another team that was going ask me to go with them. It was cold but I still had a good time.

So, to close I would like to say, stop and enjoy the day for a moment and give thanks for the good things we enjoy.

God Bless and be safe out there today.

At 78, I still think about playing ball almost every day. A bad leg from a wreck and going into business for myself ended that 40 years ago. I fell again last week. Guess I will start using a cane. Since my prostate surgery I am starting to gain a little weight back. Losing so much weight was worrying me.

I loved playing softball ,I would normally play on 3 teams every year.I really enjoyed the game. But as I got into my forties I had to give it up.I fractured a navicular bone 2 different times while playing, and developed ocular histoplasmosis in my left eye which took away most of my vision in my left eye. I truly miss the game, had lots of great memories from it.

@warrior-cat I may have already told you here but I have a buddy in Louisville that plays in 2 senior softball leagues. He's 90 years old.
I doubt that I will make it to 90. Probably not much past 70 (68 now), but I will give it my best shot. I have not played in senior leagues yet but will look into them when I am finished playing in the regular leagues. Don't have any of them in Lawton where I play now, will have to go to OKC to find them. That is only an hour drive from my house so, doable.

Headed out for a walk in about an hour. Happy Hump Day, y'all.

Encouraging. Greatly appreciated. My oncologist calls me the "Outlier". Except for itchy skin and neuropathy, I feel great.

Good morning everyone.

I had an old coworker pass away yesterday. He was 90 and living in FL with his daughter. One of my older neighbor/friend passed away last Thursday. There is an old mountain belief that people die in threes. So I hope Bert counts as the 3rd in my "circle". Well, I don't really believe many of the old sayings, but....

Ahh, the Christmas season when we only have about 1BB game per week. It's a slow week so here's hoping JQ plays soon and has a huge impact.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Looking at the weather prediction for Elgin OK next week, it will be mid to high 70's and even 80° on Christmas. Man, if we could have just had that this past Saturday it would have made the tournament even more enjoyable. However, I much rather it be cold on Christmas.

Good morning folks. Just finished our department's "Holiday Breakfast" which will be followed by a "Holiday Lunch" for the entire larger unit and then I am being dragged to a Christmas dinner with some buddies from NYC office who came down for the day's events. UGh. Too much. I feel like the Grinch. I'm taking the subway home from dinner, then only have to drive less than a mile so I can have several drinks t take the edge off so much festivity...

After that, one more day downtown, then our office is closed until January 5. Working from home, and so many people will be off that not much will get done. HoHoHo.

I hope you all are doing well.

My sympathies to know those here who knew Bert well. I never have posted on the D-League much, usually just game days, one of those reasons was I thought Bert had a wealth of basketball knowledge and I liked to hear what he had to say, especially what he thought went wrong when we lost. He was usually short and to the point.

I liked it anytime he mentioned the days when he was a younger man and knew Joe B. Hall and Jack Givens. I thought that was really cool.

But most importantly, he just seemed like a good guy, a good friend to those that knew him, and a strong family guy. One of those guys on here for me, I wished I had got to meet.

May he in Rest in Peace. And prayers for his family.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 62°F and cloudy. Expecting 74°F later today.

Yeah, Bert was some kinda special. Gonna miss his input here. Really enjoyed visiting him and Sherry during trips to Central KY.

Got in trouble at work yesterday, but pulled Chemo-brain card. 5 1/2 months until retirement.

Y'all take care.

Good morning folks. Hohoho. Christmas is bearing down. Time to watch the movies set aside for the final week: The kid with the BB gun, It's a Wonderful Life, and so on.

Still busy work days. I hope it subsides a bit after Friday.

Back to work. You al have a good day.
We visited the “Christmas Story “ house 3 or 4 years ago. Love the movie.
