Only knew him from here, but he was a great guy. Sad to hear.
I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. Visited Bert and Sherry many times between 2015-2022 in Smiths Grove on the way to Nolin Lake. He was a genuine Kentuckian through and through, and darn proud of it. His stories were amazing.I sat in Bert's living room in Smith's Grove a few years ago and we drank a beer and just talked. A good man.
I got a text early this morning! He helped me through the worst time in my life, he had a similar situation as ours with a loss of a grandson.I am saddened on hearing of Bert's passing. We were supposed to meet up at Buckey's a couple of years ago but it didn't work out. He was what we know in and around these parts as a, "Kentucky Gentleman". Our thoughts are with is wife Sherry and their family. RIP
I think about you every time I get on here. You are missed.Hello all, (I have my reasons for leaving the site.)
I do glance at the site several times a week but on this occasion please excuse me...
I will post this, I had hoped to be able to meet him in person but maybe later when it's my time...
I DO hope you ALL are doing well...
God Bless Mr. Higginbotham's family and may they gain God's strength during their extreme loss at this time...

Hate to hear this about Bert. He was a fine man. I went to his house a few years back when we did the 600 mile yard sale. They don’t come any better. RIPGood morning everyone.
Sorry to point this out but someone posted about Bert in RR if you haven't seen it yet.
RIP buddy. He had sent me several PM's a couple of years ago helping me out on something.
Can't make Friday service, but might attend celebration of life in the spring. Planning to take in KY Oaks or one of the events at the track during Derby week Apr 26 - May 3.Holy smokes, this thread is over 5,000 pages long.
Yeah, sorry to say it, but Bert did pass early this morning.
There is a service in Smith Grove this Friday, then a celebration of life in the spring.
I'm glad to know that so many of you held him in high regard and many of you spent time with him in person. That's phenominal. Great man, great wife, great family.
Keep on hanging in there Austin. We still need you here and in the political forum pounding away at some of those morons who don't have a clue.Good morning from ATX. 43°F and cloudy.
Chemo again today. Going on 3 years since diagnosis. Given 12-18 months life expectancy back then. Happy to be here, but quite saddened by recent news.
Wishing y'all another great day.
Sorry to hear about this battle you are in. I hope you come out the other side of this, healthy as possible.Good morning from ATX. 43°F and cloudy.

At 78, I still think about playing ball almost every day. A bad leg from a wreck and going into business for myself ended that 40 years ago. I fell again last week. Guess I will start using a cane. Since my prostate surgery I am starting to gain a little weight back. Losing so much weight was worrying me.Life comes at us fast sometimes and I thank God every day for the many blessings bestowed upon me and my family. With all that goes on I sometimes forget the good things that have happened to me and concentrate on the bad things. One such good thing I have been blessed with is my ability to be able to continue to play ball. It may seem small to some, but to me it is a big thing. I just haven't been ready to give it up yet. My wife asks when I will stop playing. I tell her "When they quit calling me to ask if I will play with them." The latest being this past weekend. With the passing of our Co-ed coach a couple of weeks ago, our team was not going to the tournament in Wichita Falls TX. so, another team that was going ask me to go with them. It was cold but I still had a good time.
So, to close I would like to say, stop and enjoy the day for a moment and give thanks for the good things we enjoy.
God Bless and be safe out there today.

I doubt that I will make it to 90. Probably not much past 70 (68 now), but I will give it my best shot. I have not played in senior leagues yet but will look into them when I am finished playing in the regular leagues. Don't have any of them in Lawton where I play now, will have to go to OKC to find them. That is only an hour drive from my house so, doable.@warrior-cat I may have already told you here but I have a buddy in Louisville that plays in 2 senior softball leagues. He's 90 years old.
I just talked to a friend today who is 7 yrs into chemo for a 12-18 month prognoses............Now the cancer that he has is treatable but not curable.............He is 76 yrs old.................................................He told me he would let the doctors know when he is done......keep it going bud.........Good morning from ATX. 43°F and cloudy.

Encouraging. Greatly appreciated. My oncologist calls me the "Outlier". Except for itchy skin and neuropathy, I feel great.I just talked to a friend today who is 7 yrs into chemo for a 12-18 month prognoses............Now the cancer that he has is treatable but not curable.............He is 76 yrs old.................................................He told me he would let the doctors know when he is done......keep it going bud.........
Looking at the weather prediction for Elgin OK next week, it will be mid to high 70's and even 80° on Christmas. Man, if we could have just had that this past Saturday it would have made the tournament even more enjoyable. However, I much rather it be cold on Christmas.Good morning from ATX. 58°F and cloudy. Chance for rain. Weekly forecast calls for 60s on Christmas eve.
Headed out for a walk in about an hour. Happy Hump Day, y'all.

Still busy work days. I hope it subsides a bit after Friday.
