Lol he got hot vs Marquette. I see nothing there to make me think this guy is a pg as many have billed him.

He’s a body for depth which is good but we need quickley to return

From what little I have seen of him in videos, he looks like a nice player to have. Several people have mentioned he is a pretty solid defender. That alone is a huge bonus. He also seems to be a pretty decent shooter, which is a big benefit as well. Not sure what so many are skeptical about, other than a ranking.

You just keep saying things in these threads, with no evidence to back up your statements, and very little credibility as someone who knows what he’s talking about —and yet u seem to think you are persuading people. That’s the definition of delusional.

there is a reason grad transfers are grad transfers and not playing professionally. if he is anything more than the 8th, 9th, 10th guy off the bench...its going to be a pretty ****** season.

The people that cry about a 4 year guy going off on us doesn't have the brains to figure out that they go off because they are playing UK, the biggest name they'll likely face. Before, and after they torch us, they're averaging 6-8 pt.s a game, 3 rebounds, 2 assists.

Quinn cook type. Great pickup. Defensive and nba potential glue guy. Under cal, could really go off.

Yeah, we were the best team in the country before he got hurt.
Zion and Duke were better. Remember, they beat us by 34 points earlier in the year. I know it was the first game but there was a huge talent difference. Plus, we didn't win the SEC regular season or SEC tournament. We were not the best team.

I've watched whatever I could find on him, including part of Creighton games on Youtube that WEREN'T highlights for Mintz, just big games during his sophomore and junior years.

Physically, he reminds me a little bit of Mychal Mulder, size and relative athleticism.

The difference is Davion has played point guard pretty well at the high D-1 level, against Villanova and Seton Hall and Xavier and so on. His assist to turnover rate isn't bad: He averages the same number of assists a game as 2nd year Hagans and had fewer turnovers. He's a much better 3-point shooter: 36 percent to 28 percent. He's not as good a defender as Hagans but he's above average. He isn't as fast as Hagans. But he isn't plodding.

(Mulder, as he's shown by making the NBA, could have been a good piece for Kentucky even though stuck behind Ulis and Murray, then Fox and Monk. But he couldn't hit the big shot. Nail one in the 2017 Regional Finals and Kentucky may have #9. )

I don't see why Davion would have that problem: He came in and started at a NCAA tournament-caliber team. He seems to relish the moment in the games I watched.

If Askew is ready early, Mintz would be a good rotation piece behind him and Boston and Clarke. If Askew isn't physically ready, Mintz could be an Epps or Teague-like guard in an offense featuring Boston and Clarke and Brooks and whichever of the other freshmen surprise, as I predict one will.

We'll see. Unlike some, I was well pleased with what Kentucky got out of Reid Travis and Nate Sestina. I think Mintz can contribute more.

Of course, there are some on this thread that if you gave them a Mercedes S-Class Sedan would say, "Pearl Gray? That's the only color they had?" Why they choose to be miserable and negative, I can't say. And I don't care. I just ignore them.

Next years team is gonna be loaded just wait I've been excited about this class for a couple years. The doomsayers should just be ignored this time of year. You wanted the number 1 class you got it

His defense will get him some play before his offense does. He is a real smart kid ala Knight who had a 4.5 GPA in high school. I saw a video of him and a kid going to North Carolina working out so it appears he is not afraid of hard work according to the video.

He was a solid contributor in a major conference against high level competition. He has a lot of experience playing against teams that were better than first weekend tourney teams. I’ll take him in a heart beat.

Those looking for a savior, mintz is probably not it. Keep perspective, he is a direct replacement for juzang and from the highlights, looks like a pretty solid one. Solid is all you can ask for because anything else is a bonus. Juzang barely gave anything up until the last 2 games of the season.

Interesting pattern on all the Davion Mintz threads.

The same people who were absolutely emphatic last summer -- dead certain -- that Nick Richards would NEVER be a competent college basketball player see Mintz as either a bust or a deep in the rotation player, and see his addition as a sign Kentucky is headed for a mediocre season.

The people -- and I have to admit to being one of them -- who saw great potential in Richards based on flashes his first two years, and predicted he'd be an NBA draft pick once he got in shape and developed confidence, see Mintz as a potential significant addition to yet another SEC champion and Elite Eight or better Kentucky team. That's, of course, what happened in 2020 before COVID-19.

I guess, once again, we'll see who is right.

this is a pretty broad and inaccurate brush. i always believed in richards potential. he has unique skill set (tall, long, athletic). mintz is just another 6'3" guard who shoots it ok. 99% of these grad transfers are average players just being shuffled around. fans being fans think their guy won them the jackpot.

julius mays is a decent comparison. he played 33 mpg and the team sucked (for a lot of reasons). but julius mays has no business playing 33 mpg at a place like uk. 10 minutes max.
