We lost 17-1 to Ole Miss tonight... We gotta get on the recruiting trail and sign some players with last names I can't pronounce if we're ever going to compete with the major hockey players!

It was painful to watch... MSU had 10 shots on goal to OM's 70. State looked like a elementary school team against them. We did destroy their goalie at one point. He went airborne into a faceplant. It took some of the sting away.

I've fallen in love with hockey, and would relish the idea of a club team at State to do well. That's just sad.

The first couple years we always beat TSUN. I did a big article on the team on my site at the time.

It was absolutely horrible. Basically what it looked like was that Ole Miss had 4-5 guys that actually know what the hell they're doing and have at least played before. Our guys looked like they do this to get out of the house.

Who plays for these teams? Just curious. When I was in school I knew like, two people on the entire campus who cared at all about hockey.

I have been a UAH hockey fan for like, 35 years

And I think there are some Ice Dawgs from our N AL area.

The worst butt-kicking I ever saw was at the Von Braun arena in Huntsville, around 30 years ago.
When UAH was still a club team. (now they are D-1, of course, albeit not ready to compete at the top)

They beat the club team from Auburn 27-nil.

I just detest losing to OM at anything.

When I was a grad student at MSU, some of our best bridge players invited what was supposed to be the best players from UM to come to Starkville.
I only drag that up, because we want to beat them at everything. We did, that evening.

Tiddly-winks? Brang it on!

Did you notice that UAH found a conference to join? That's pretty good considering about a year ago they were going to shut them down.

I always enjoyed the games at the VBCC. Haven't been in a while though.

Most of the UAH players come from the upper tier of states ... NY, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota ... and Canada ... but they've had a couple of locals over the years. I suspect the ones they import weren't quite good enough to get scholarships at the big hockey northern schools but were very acceptable for us.

How do you justify spending 85% of the ath budget on hockey?? no way! only a matter of time before a woman's sport files under Title 9

I don't know how much they spend on hockey, but hockey is sort of the school's niche. They don't play football, and the only other sports they have that I know of are basketball and baseball. But yes, I could see how Title 9 might rear its ugly head at some point ... not sure what women's sports they have.

Girls play sports in North Korea? I thought the only sport they were allowed to play was the Hunger Games.

Well, last night was even uglier. Rebs won 20-0. Had 120 shots on goal to

MSU's 4. That may be the most lopsided stat I've ever seen.

As far as I know, our hockey team is still a club sport, as is our lacrosse team, and does not fall under control or receive funds from athletic dept

ouch, good thing I did not go. I went to most of the games in Tupelo from 09-11. After watching a terrible game last year - I decided it was a waste of my time. They must have lost a lot of the original players because the guys out there last year didn't even compare to the previous teams (or maybe the opposition had just gotten that much better). I'd still go if it was at least half way competitive...

UAH has been very competitive the last several years in hockey against college teams from the North. Politics were the reasons for trying to shut the program down. The past President of the University of Alabama, ( retired ) came UAH as interim President until they could take their time to hire the right President. In so, coming from a major football school, he saw an opportunity to shut down a sport that cost a lot of money that he dimmed not necessary. He faced a tremendous backlash from the alumni and hockey community. Funny, the same year he tried to pull off. UAH hosted the Frozen Four in Tampa.

Yes, my 14 year old plays competitive club hockey. He currently plays for a AAA team from New Jersey. He's played several major tournaments in Huntsville. I've enjoyed going to Huntsville for tournaments, great Hockey Community. Better and less cost than Chicago, Detroit and Boston....
