it was a business decision.

hope the guy can have a good career, just hard to take a chance on that situation and I don't think any less of any coach that makes the decision to drop an offer.

It's a business, therefore no one should speak negatively about the next player that commits for an extended period of time and then decommits. If this article is true, it speaks poorly for mullen's handling of the situation.

Who in the hell reads the Natchez Democrat? Outside of Natchez, that is.

Scott didnt make his grades to qualify, and then blew out his knee in juco...It sux but that's life.

Nailed it. If he makes his grades, he's got a 4-year scholarship. But you just can't afford to waste 1 of your 25 signees on a guy like that.

I think for a high school kid and I say again high school kid whose commitment is accepted by a university and then has a season ending injury should be put in a catagory by the NCAA that is outside of scholarship limits and or signing numbers and be allowed to attend the university if he has the grades out of high school and play if well. Course I am sure there would be those looking for loopholes.

The article took a lot of "artistic liberties" too.

We never publicly dropped Scott. We kept him on our list until we had helped him find another landing spot. Make no mistake, we helped him get on @ UAB.

Also, Brewster isn't the WR coach that recruited him. He was against giving Scott a scholarship from the very get go when he was hired. This is also very common in staff changes....

How can this guy, the coaches at the juco, or devante call MSU out for not being "committed" to him or offering an explanation. Having known players go the juco route who were signed by a university first, I can tell you that those staffs are up front with them from the word go about where they stand by going the sign and place route. You have to graduate juco, you have to be out by the end of the spring of second year, and you must stay out of legal trouble and not have serious injury. Most all university staffs will help you find another place to land if you do have an injury, but just can't roll the dice on that player again should any of those things happen.

No way anyone should hold this against our staff. Scott suffered a major knee injury with only 2 years left to play at MSU anyway. So the player that our staff committed to is no longer the same player anymore. As said, it sux but he is damaged goods at this point. I don't hold this against our staff anymore than I would hold it against a player that commits to a school while one HC is there and then decommits when that HC is fired and replaced.

He still deserved a telephone call from our staff if what this guy is saying is true. That's the only prob with this situation.

But that's the point that many are missing. Yeah, they may not have called him immediately, but they worked with him after he found out in trying to find another place to land. At least hat is what I have come to understand concerning the matter.

I think this all comes down to Devante really wanting to play SEC ball and losing out on that opportunity. I hate it for him. But heres the bigger picture, Devante - you are still getting to play a great game at the next level of competition, and you get a free education and college degree. May not be what you had or, but dang sure beats many other roads

I agree a phone call would have helped. But if he truly wanted to go to MSU, why didn't HE call or even text one of the coaches? Sometimes you need to let them know how you feel.

HE deserved a call, period. HE was committed to MSU. HE was not in the position to make any more calls unless HE had wavered in his committment.
