Did somebody suggest bringing our fences in for our weak hitters... to see SEC field dimensions...o
It appears a 12 foot move of home plate towards CF without moving the outfield fence would result in making the "existing" CF wall 378 feet away from home, the left field power alley 369 feet from home, the right field power alley 367 feet from home, while still maintaining 330 to left field fair pole and 326 to right field fair pole. My scale may be off a tad, but moving home plate 12 feet towards center field, would move each fair line 7 feet further away from the corresponding fence down each line. The Chairback seats in the main grand stand are even with the fences down each line, so to add grandstand all the way down, you would be able to put the wall of grand stand where the fence is or an additional 12 feet from where the bleachers are right now (5 feet walk way between bleachers and fence + the additional 7 feet the fair line moved away from the fence) Obviously, the new grandstand wall would have to be angled, but the existing grand stand would not move, so that should be a sufficient angle for viewing the infield from both sides down the lines.
Surely somebody with a fancy degree has already looked into this, but I am just speculating how it "could" be done.
Edited to add: If my estimates are correct, and they are just estimates, we could add about 1500 seats per side with one mid-ramp and one end ramp on each side. That is 3000 additional Chairbacks added to the existing 6700 giving us 9700 permanent seats. We had almost 13,000 for the Super Regionals, so with the Outfield seating that should be plenty. We aren't going to break the record of 14,991 anyway unless we have a team that is like 30-5 going into Super Bulldog Weekend....or We host a Super and they actually allow everybody in.
