This kid has never played pro ball or college. He is from the folded up G League College type team. Totally different than a 2 year college player who signed 3 pro deals and comes back after 2 years away.
Also, he's only 19, the same age as a lot of college freshmen. He was a high four star his senior year at 17.
edit note...he reclassified and his class would now be juniors and he's still 19 so he was a high 4 star as a 16 year old.

Wait.. we turned him down? With 3 guys already done for the year? Its like we are trying to make life as hard as possible on ourselves.

You can't bring this guy in now, no way. They just fixed the locker room and at this point, roles are established. Aberdeen is our starting pg, bringing a dude in now to take that spot, will destroy team chemistry.
Now, if the NCAA allows G-League guys to play college ball as long as they never played in the NBA, I'm good with bringing him in next year to be our primary pg, but not this year, no way.

Pate has no interest in playing at UK for the remainder of the '26 season.
He said himself he is staying with his G league team.
All communication between Pate and UK is centered on joining for '26-'27.

You don’t think UK was a destination under Cal?

UK was the recruiting model.

But it was Cal.
Oh it was totally a destination under cal. But not because of our history or our perch at the top
Of the bluebloods. He made it a destination because of the promise of NBA draft spots.

these kids have ever cared about the Kentucky name. Now they care even less

I don't know about that, but Possum above had it explained to him what the intent of the post was - "we'll either get him soon or we'll know before too long we didn't get him" and then doubled down on insisting it was indeed a troll post. That's doubling down.
Ol’ Possum can smell a troll a mile away!!!! Opossums possess an exceptional,, acute sense of smell that far surpasses human capabilities, with over 1,100 olfactory receptor genes compared to just 400 in humans.

I would like to have Pate and Lowe next season plus Chandler, Jasper and Kam. Those 5 plus a sniper 3 and D guy and we can then look for an athletic 4 and have a darn good team

In the NFL, it feels like the players and owners are in general lockstep together about improving the game to grow revenue and generally make the fan experience better (although the owners are trying to f up by utilizing streaming services for games).

In the NBA, it feels like the owners are trying to do the same thing, but the players are often acting like entitled brats through demanding trades right after signing contracts, load management, and mailing in the All-Star game (I mean how hard would it be to play hard for at least a quarter?).

In MLB, there were at least some visionaries pushing key changes through to make the game better (pitch clock, 3-batter rule for relievers), and they had to fight with baseball purists and players, but it worked out for the better.

And now, with college sports, it seems like there is ESPN (who seems to hate its audience), the conference leaders (who think the SEC or Big Ten would be better off if all other conferences and schools athletic departments outside the conference were destroyed), the players (who don't think at all), and federal judges (who don't care about the impact their decisions have on the schools and athletes).

The schools, conferences, players and congress need to get together soon to fix these problems. It will be beneficial from a revenue and way of life standpoint to clarify rules, lock in longer term deals for players, limit transfers based on contractual commitments, and require academic performance.

man I’d take him. I realize we just fixed the locker room but this team struggled at home just putting away average teams. They’re going to hit a wall. They’re are just now playing as some kind of a team although still not great. Never will fully buy in. Oweh still doesn’t make the good outlet pass, several are black holes half the time. Might as well bring in an actual guard who’s legit and actually roll the dice for the final four. We aren’t getting there any other way. Still think this team loses double figures to any top team they face. Luckily beat LSU, struggled to beat Ole Miss at home. UT isn’t a top 25 team. This team seems to beat average teams but not elite teams, not close.

Is say bring him on.

We beat Ole Miss and Texas this week. Ole Miss beat #21 Georgia last week and Texas beat em by 20 today. Texas also beat Vanderbilt and Alabama.
