Just got word of a beautiful story, apparently the 7 members of Rick's Rowdies are unhappy with the new group of officers.

The "wig man" and co. have instituted new rules for seating priority for their part of the student section. Word is that the Rowdies get a sections of 200+ seats blocked off just for them (which is stupid, they should maybe get 50). To sit in the gray chairs at the bottom, members must be an officer or have 50 special "Rick's Rowdies Points". In order to sit in the lower level of the blocked off section, members must have 20 special "Rick's Rowdies Points". To sit in any other part of the blocked off section, you only have to be a member of Rick's Rowdies.

My friend, who is unfortunately a member, said all non-officers are upset because it does away with the first come first serve, and guarantees the wig man and friends to get the best seats no matter how early he gets there.

I personally think its dumb that they will get 200 seats devoted to their pathetic club, but find it funny that within the organization, the plebes are at odds with the wig and candy man.

how does Byrne let them get away with that? Now, bear in mind, I know nothing about how the Rowdies squatters rights work, so please forgive me.

Also, how do you earn "Rowdy points"? Go to games on the road dressed like an idiot?

I for one can't stand Rick's Rowdies. It has become a complete social club since it was started. I'm not saying they don't care about our basketball team but I bet that the percentage of that group that could actually tell you our starting five is very low. I can't stand when people (our fans or not) talk **** and don't know anything about what they are talking **** about. It doesn't make them look "cool", it makes them look like absolute morons. Those idiots don't deserve any more rights to tickets than the rest of the students just because they dress like jackasses. I know that some Rowdies truly do care about our basketball program and know about it but there is also a huge group of people that just make you look stupid.

that if a non-Rowdies student gets there early enough and heads down to those seats, nothing could be done to stop them.

I'm not much for the Greek system, but I'd love to see a large block of frat guys take over down there and make Wig Man look like the idiot he is.

would be hilarious. it would likely be hard to get any other group as cohesive as the greeks to do it though.

they are the WORST thing about out basketball program. I have never been in such close proximity to so many douche bags in my life.

They should make them watch the home games from a secure location off campus where no one will be subjected to their moronic insults and chants. The WIG man or whatever he is called is a complete clown. He and his obese girlfriend are 17ing terrible.

The Rowdies are protected by Rick and Meo...always have been. They're not going anywhere. I'm sure Greg would love to do away with them, but Stans would throw one of his famous hissy fits. I mean, the 'bury's have Rowdies parties at their house!

and it wasn't bad back then. Now its epic douchebaggery. In fact, I am nominating Rick's Rowdies for the 2010 DDDY.

Why not just pass our t-shirts to the entire student section at the first major SEC game and create a great atmosphere. No social club, no assigned seats, The entire student section is the student section. If some dubmasses want to wear wigs and paint basketball jerseys on themselves, that's fine. They can get there early to get their seats.

I was a "Rowdy" back in the Mario Austin/Lawrence Roberts era. Even then it was pretty bad, the difference was the Rowdies were just kids who got to the game early, if you got there early enough to get a good seat they gave you a shirt. My last year or so in school they started having meetings, electing officers, blah blah. Nothing as bad as a college kid who feels like they've got a little power. But, as has been said, if you show up early enough you sit where you want to and there's nothing the Rowdies can or will do about it.

the Rowdy points? What type of activity do you have to participate in to earn "Rowdy Points"? Somehow I picture some sort of Special Olympics situation in the backyard of Stansbury's house.

For every fish you catch with Marcus Campbell at Rick's lake front house, you get a Rowdy point.

Note: I actually did fish with Big Feces and one of the Stansbury litter at cookout at Stans's house when he brought up having a group of students do something like the Cameron Crazies. Officers from just about every club on campus were invited, including the frats. Maybe 15 people showed up, and only about 3 of those were Greeks. Any way, about two weeks later, there was a meeting, the Hardwood Humpers was voted down in favor of Rick's Rowdies, officers were elected for some reason, and a great idea began it's spiral down to what it is now.

When Andy Kennedy and OM came into town last year, there was not ONE cheer ragging on him about his drunken escapades. Not only that, but when the Bulldogs were walking the ball down the court, one of the Rowdies (I think the wigged one) had a sign up saying, "MAKE NOISE!"

done.

it's early in the season and we'll be hosting one of the best teams in the country on primetime national television. this is the perfect game for us to take it up a notch.

if i were still a student, i would be pissed that they held a section of seats for these clowns. most of them didn't have a clue. i think they started it maybe my last year there, but a few of my friends and i would always get in line before the gates opened. i remember sprinting down to the seats to get on the floor.

All we need are some fat, ugly chicks and some retards/geeks. I think we can find that on this board, of course, I am not calling out the entire board, but come on, you know who you are.

Because most of what you just typed is wrong.

(Disclaimer, I am a rowdy and have been for a few seasons. I am not an officer)

The point of the tiered seating is to allow the people that actually show up to the games better seating. The problem with open seating is that some people charge down in front and just sit the whole time. I find it funny that SPS complains about the older folks who never stand and never cheer, but are so against a group who wants to get low on the court and get loud. For any students reading this if you have such a problem with it, then help spur change from within. Bitching from the outside and showing up in non state colors and not cheering is helping no one. Points are awarded by games attended and tiered seating WILL NOT START until the conference slate NEXT SEMESTER. (You know, when the majority of students actually decide to go to a game).

Cameron Crazies, the Den, etc, all use a point system for their seats. And I know what you are going to say, "We aren't them". Well I say why the 17 not? Why is it that Mississippi State can't have an organized basketball student group? If you actually show up to the games you will have nothing to worry about. As far as special Rowdy Points to friends: it was stated last night when everyone was assigned database numbers, everyone starts at 0. EVERYONE. Game support = points. It's pretty simple. They are looking into charter bus rates to shuttle large group of students to away games.

They are also working with the SA and the Athletic Department to make sure those sections are Rowdies only. Stans wants 700+ by the conference slate. We hit 375 sign ups as of last night. Whether most of those are the t-shirt grab and go crowd remains to be seen.

The coaches want it, the players want it. Jarvis talked about it last night. He wants huge support from the student body. Phil said last week the players brag about who gets their named chanted and who doesn't. If the players want it what the big deal? This season could be epic and I'd rather have a group down there that will lose their voice cheering than a group of indifferents texting on their blackberries.

- 2 cents

-There is never any turnover in the leadership of the (un)organization. The same people that "run" it now have been in charge for the past 3 years.

-Nobody wants to go to weekly meetings on Thursday. Have your meetings 2hrs before the gates open when everyone is supposed to be in line.

-The point system is ridiculous. If you're all that die-hard, you'll be in line plenty early, and anyone that gets to The Hump 3-4hrs before tipoff is probably not just gonna sit down the entire game. I would like to see what authority the Rowdy leaders would try to pull if an "outsider" tried to sit in their roped off section.

-The shirts SUCK. "Bringin' STATE back" was one year's slogan. What does that even mean?

-You get the same "recruits" each year. It's a rare few (maybe 15% overall) true basketball fans, some lonely nerdy people, and freshmen who don't realize what a big joke it is.

Give the Rowdies "dedicated" seats, and there will be NO motivation to show up to the game early. As a student, I would to get to the Hump hours before tipoff to have the best seat. Now that I have a season ticket, I show up maybe 15min early. Why? Because I am guaranteed my seat. If the Rowdies are guaranteed the best seats in the student section, the same will happen - maybe not for everyone, but for the majority. Book it.

people who get to the games over 2 hours early just to make sure they sit down front do not "just sit the whole time." and if the rowdies are just so worried about other people sitting in "their" seats, then y'all should get your asses in line before everyone else. just like everyone else does for their seat in the student section.
