Does anybody believe this team has quit?

I just think they got to believing all the hype and then got their bubble popped. Just play. Give it your best shot and let the chips fall where they may. When you leave the field, know that you gave it your all. Good things will happen.

No, but a good deal of our fans appear to have quit. If for a second anyone believes that Banks or Russell or Perkins or anybody else on this team has quit then you haven't been following them very closely. Tobias Smith plays on one leg basically. Tell him he's quit. The answer is NO!

I'm not sure. Body language was abysmal Saturday. I doubt they have quit, but they didn't want to be out there Saturday. This team has serious issues at the moment.

You obviously didn't watch the same game I watched. That team was done well before halftime!

As a fan I am embarrassed. I don't feel the least bit bad pointing out the lack of effort from the team.

I do not think the team quit. I think they are actually playing plus .500 football teams and we cannot compete.

The number of missed tackles and the inability to run the football are reasons

for concern because those two things have a lot to do with effort. Yes, I'm concerned.

Umm, go back and watch the Tennessee game. Yes, they have a horrid defense, but

their offense is pretty good. State made open field tackles that night, and held them to 24 points (the kickoff TD was on the special teams). The defense that was out on the field last Saturday was waving at the ball carrier as he ran by them. They didn't forget how to tackle over the past 3 weeks. That showing last Saturday was due to being unprepared by the coaches and a lack of effort on the part of the players. A&M probably still would have beaten us, but it would've been a much closer game if the effort put forth in the Tennessee game showed up for the A&M game.

Mullen seemed to have given up on the game at halftime. He was quoted as saying he just wanted to see who would go back out in the 2nd half and play hard and not lay down. No mention of trying to make a comeback at all. Personally, I think they all bought in that they were actually going to get a shot at the NC and when Alabama brought them back to earth they just packed up their marbles and went home. Whether or not they remove their heads from their butts before the season is over remains to be seen. I just know I am very much thinking is possible we post 5 losses to wrap the season up and then watch TSUN go to a better bowl game than we do.

Surely don't want to think so, but my eyes told me otherwise on Saturday

Texas A&M's superior talent didn't get them 718 yards. Our arm tackles, giving up on plays, and getting knocked 2-3 yards back after contact is what resulted in 718 yards of offense. Everyone keeps bashing Love and it's probably well deserved, but I saw several of our D linemen completely quit on plays as soon as Manziel started rolling out. Hell, one just put his arms on his hips and watched as Manziel ran around for about 4-5 more seconds.

I think we've got a handful of guys(Russell, Perk, Banks) that are going to keep fighting no matter what the circumstances, but they need to man up and start cracking some teammates' skulls because they aren't going to win another game by themselves.

NO ...... at the start of the season what were your expectations ? 7 & 5 ... 8 & 4 .... better than that ? .... go back and check yourselves and I would guess that many of you did not exceed 9 & 3 .... now when we start 7 & 0 your expectations are raised and a lot of folks are bitching about it ... a lot of you guys were advocating easy cup cakes just to make a bowl .... where along that timeline did you change your mind / expectations ? .... well, here we are - trying to make 9 & 3 which is better than most of yall expected to begin with ... save C-34 and his 10 & 0 prediction ( and if I recall it was originally 9 & 3 to begin with )

I agree and this is what I dont understand about Mullen.

While I was still capable of playing sports, from the beginning of high school through college, if someone was half-assing it, our coach sat their sorry butt. You can say what you want about mass/head scratching substitutions (which there are a lot of), but if someone isn't going to give "relentless" effort (your words Mullen, not mine), sit their 17ing *** on the bench and let them watch for the rest of the game.

Quay better have been suspended, because not using our only disruptvie DL in that game was a moronic decision of epic proportions. He may have played, but I sure as hell didnt see him nor did I see his name in the participation list.

I dont know whether Mullen has some sort of preference for upper-classmen because they have been in the program longer or whether these upper-classmen are truly better than some of the younger guys; but, the former is a Croom-esque approach to determining PT.

Its not the record, its how we got to the "& 2" that is so damn disappointing. We were not even marginally competitive in either game. It is not expecting too much to be marginally competitive at home against an SEC opponent. We got beat the 17 down and NO ONE on the sidelines really seemed to give a damn. That is why people are so pissed.

do you think it was not caring or more like "there's nothing we can do against these guys today " .... don't get me wrong, I know where you are coming from but during the course of the season, we will come up against a team (or teams) that we just cant figure out or just cant compete against ... I know it sucks when that happens but it will happen ... reality x 2 > [ expectations divided by hope ]

The TV announcers thought so. Before halftime, they said Mullen should really call a time out because this defense looks like it has quit. Totally embarrassing.

I dont know the answer to that question, but we will soon find out.

I hope it was just a function of extremely piss poor game planning and a Bama hangover and not "well 17-it, we aint playing for no BCS NC, so screw the rest of the season"...

Even if that is the case, you still play hard until the final tick on the clock. You don't just quit during the middle of the game because you know you can't win.

I'd buy that we quit Saturday. Can we turn it back on for LSU, Arkansas, and UM? That's the question.

I think the nature of the loss at Alabama, i.e. a total blowout, was a severe kick in the teeth of our players after all the hype. And I think it carried over into the next week to the point that they just gave up against A&M, especially when on the first possession they just marched down the field and scored like no one was playing defense at all. Somehow, they need to get their confidence back. Not sure if they can by the LSU game. I just hope this is not a repeat of our basketball team last year.

I would not say they quit but they came out unprepared with a terrible game plan and got their crap kicked in. Things just snowballed from there.

If the team had actually quit then A&M would have hung 65+ on them. A&M has no problem running up a score (see Auburn and Arkansas)

I don't think it's a question of quit so much as a question of do they have anymore gas left in the tank. I know a lot of folks bitched early on when Dan pulled the starters and we coasted to a few close wins but he was trying to save the starters for the last half of the season push. I'm not sure he was able to save enough. Every one of our starters on the O-line has limped off the field at one time or another this season. The same can be said for most of the D-line. Their replacements aren't all that good-yet. They haven't had an open w/e since Sept. They're bruised, knicked and a little bit beaten up. A lot of the starters are < %100. I just hope they can find some gas for these last 3 games and work through the pain or it's gonna be ugly to watch. We need to get some of our emotion back, players and fans alike.

Chris Wilson needs to go

unless he learns how to coach an aggressive defense. you can talk all your want about our turnovers but after every game this year there's been talk about how vanilla we look on defense.....and it's catching up with us. he's coaching scared. it's time to dial it up or go home.

My only litmus test...

..is do you want to hit somebody. va. aTm, they definitely didn't want to hit anybody. And they had a cocky QB on the field, who runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. I thought by the 3rd play, Slay or one of his compadres would have knocked that MF'er cold. But they just stood aside & watched him run down the field. In football, if you enter a game afraid of contact, then what you get is what we got vs. aTm. The old MSU defense that feeds on head-hunting & revels in delivering vicious licks would have won that game.

Bama beat us twice. Not saying A&M wouldn't have beaten us anyway, but our players were clearly still licking their wounds from having their dreams of competing for the West ground into a fine dust in Tuscaloosa. Mullen talked all year about playing games that mattered (i.e., playing to go to Atlanta) and when the players realized that was a pipe dream, it was going to have a negative effect.

You can talk about 10-2 all you want and how big that would be for us, but for the players, they were hoping to contend in the West. That mattered more.

All this is on the coaches. If you are going to build them up like we did, you have to be ready to play (we clearly weren't in Tuscaloosa) and you have to be ready to bring them back in and build them back up (and we clearly didn't do that either).
