Does anyone else here want to find Matt Strevens and punch him?

I don't think our beat guys need to be sunshine pumpers, but I do expect them to be accurate. He is possibly the most inaccurate reporter I've ever seen. Then, he brings up irrelevant stuff just to get a response. I unfollowed him long ago, but I began to follow him again to get updates on the FAU game, and now, I'm reminded why I unfollowed in the first place.

I saw all I needed to know when he reported that MSU was being investigated over a car and a recruit. That turned out to be completely false. I wish MSU could sue the Columbus Dispatch for libel.

He's a beat guy for the Starkville Daily News or Columbus Dispatch

Not sure which one. He just left one for the other.

Well, most beat writers are just writing things to get a response. And Twitter is the absolute worst place to get correct info from. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting info from that alone.

But yeah, I quit reading his and Brad Locke's junk a long time ago. I don't really care for most of Marcello's stuff, but I'll at least read it. The inane stats and "Oh. RT." stuff drives me insane. But I get that he has to produce a high volume of material, and it has to be about something.

Brad Locke, though. That guy's always looking to stir things up, especially if something doesn't go his way. I'm all behind a coach not wanting to answer certain questions, and it ticked me off when Locke would ask them anyway knowing they didn't want to answer and then go write about his experience like a drama queen. The one about Mullen this year is probably another example of where he got mad at Dan for not giving him tidbits of info he wanted so he wrote a piece slamming him right after either Alabama or A&M to get a bunch of disgruntled fans on the rise.

Sorry, neither of those guys do their job that great. They might do it better if coaches and those in the dept. felt they could trust them somewhat to not go back and write some terrible story, or an "all-access" piece that wasn't meant to be.

Not that I take a lot of joy in making any type of positive comment toward that rag, but it's the Commercial Dispatch, not the Columbus Dispatch. The Columbus Dispatch would be making up **** on Ohio State daily I am gonna guess, not MSU.

Guys, just to give an example. I live near Memphis, so i get to listen to sports radio in the evenings every day driving home from work. You should hear the way the talking heads will jump up and defend Josh Pastner on everything. Could you imagine what it would be like to have beat writers that actually halfway support Mississippi State? I'm not about sunshine pumping all the time, but is it asking too much for the beat writers to not stir up trouble for our coaching staffs or publish irrelevant opinions?

The line between traditional "journalists" and "new media" (read: bloggers) has been increasingly blurring for some time. The only differential, it seems, is the company backing them. Page Views, Subscriptions, and Twitter/Facebook followers are what they are selling. If trolling can increase these numbers, you bet they'll do it. It's a business, not a noble cause for truth.

I don't take offense to it. It should, however, decrease their credibility. It doesn't, though. Gullible, are the masses. Increasingly more gullible we seemingly become, every day.

I usually follow him during baseball season. He does a good job of going to all the games. The other guys typically don't go unless it is SEC games. But now that MSU has an official baseball feed, I feel I won't follow him anymore. He definitely likes to stir the pot.

Paul Jones @ 24/7 Sports is the only person we have on the beat that fits this description(maybe Logan Lowery too, but I'm not as familiar with him)...

The extent that Scout, Bulldawg Junction, Columbus Appeal/Commercial Dispatch, and Daily Journal sensationalized things by providing less than fully factual and/or hearsay info in the Redmond situation made them all basically dead to me. Clarion Ledger wasn't far behind, but Marcello didn't take it nearly as far as some others did.

The Imes family is not exactly what you would call a family of Ole Miss homers ... no real clue how you could believe that

Plus the managing editor and city editor are both MSU graduates

Matt Stevens does equal douchebag but the paper has a heavy MSU lean if any lean at all

This is the main reason why I'm a Paul Jones subscriber.

Those are a bunch of people that have never really been out of GTR....

and Mississippi for that matter. So concerned about themselves in their small little world that they don't realize what we're actually competing against. They could be much more successful if they'd dedicate themselves to the team and a higher calling. Not necessarily MSU, but at least be professional about it and try and represent their newspapers in professional ways.

The irony is that they did it to make Jones look bad- and in the end have driven more people to him

Matt Stevens headline about a car was very damaging for a PR standpoint. That man, maybe his editor that forced his hand, didn't mind slandering MSU for page views.
