I do remember #32, and #20 before him. I remember them as better offensive players after 3 years. I think Cliff is a better defensive player.
Ha!!! Cliff is not Roy Hinson defensively! Sorry dude! 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ Roy averaged 3 blocks a game.. at 6-9…

They are not in the same class… literally and figuratively
Doesn't have to be in the same class. It's about how important he is to your situation. His value is just as high for Rutgers -- as Trayce is to Indiana

Huh? What are you saying? Roy was way better at this stage. D and O…BTW I played with Roy at Franklin.

No it’s about pure talent. Cliff is still raw offensively and tge League is ALL about scoring. Trace will flourish. He’s got moves and handle for days.

I'm talking about Cliff being compensated to return to school. Not comparing who is a better prospect. Trayce being better doesn't change the fact that Cliff is just as important to Rutgers, as Tryace was to Indiana

I dont see him improving either, he is what he is at this point.
He just became all defensive B1G center. He has improved so much from last year. He can still improve. Players in NBA still improves... kid is still in college...
Everyone can agree, he has freak athletic ability... He will improve

If Cliff comes back, I think He and Mag will be contending for the B1G DPOY. His offense stats will actually go up with addition of Gavin and Simpson coming along as PG. Gavin, Cam and Simpson should really open things up for Cliff because they wont be able to Double team him so easily...

That just shows you that they look at analytics and dont watch the games. Cliff couldnt defend the other teams big to save his life this year.

At the end of the day, I think it comes down to whether there is a way to get him significant NIL money he can keep. If not, then I don’t blame him for leaving

Really, his post defense was awful against any half decent big man this season. Players 2 and 3 inches shorter than him were eating him alive.
Yet somehow he wins first Team all BIG defense in the only conference who plays any Defense. You prove over and over your inability to see what Defense really is but you are not alone. We have good fans too who cannot see it or understand it.

As much as it would be great to have him back – I just hope he makes his decision quickly. Same with Paul.

I would prefer to not have the program hang in limbo while these decisions are made. There will be opportunities to get impact transfers, and the longer it takes for them to make their decisions the more challenging it will be to reel these guys in.

This is super important, especially since we could potentially have Caleb + 6 more leaving Cliff, Paul, Hyatt, Reiber, MIller and Palmquist.

I'm not saying that all 6 are leaving, I'm saying it COULD happen. The sooner the coaching staff knows, the better for them to can go out and get new players.

Didn't we have to wait excruciatingly long for Geo and Ron to make decisions on coming back? I hope there is more discussion between player and staff than we know about with Cliff and some of these current fellows. Do you think we are scheduled for an overseas trip this year partly because it is an opportunity to get NIL money for Cliff? As for Cliff's skill set, he seems amazingly quick laterally...and gets off the floor quickly. But he seems to struggle harnessing his gifts. I fear that some other school with a reputation for developing big men may call and Cliff might leave for a final year at another school. Is that a real fear or just my usual paranoia? I guess I ask more questions than actually contribute anything lol. GO RU! If it works for you, please come back, Cliff!!

Schools are allowed to take a summer trip overseas once every 4 years.
This is the year for Rutgers. It happens to match up nicely with trying to get Cliff some NIL, but the reason to take the trip is that they're due not because of Cliff.
They have the budget for it, they will take a trip every 4 years

I love Cliff, but Roy was an absolute terror on defense. His senior year, he averaged nearly 5 blocks and a steal a game. There was only one game in his career where he got abused in a post like we have seen from Cliff against Nebraska and Iowa for example. That was his freshman year against John Pinone. Hinson was really not a polished player on offense until he got to the pros. But his defense was the best we have had, and that includes James Bailey.

The long wait is on the player.
RHJ knew he had minimal chances of being drafted before even declaring in 2021.
There was no last minute information that changed his mind. He literally announced his return at the last possible day.

Honestly, same for Clif.
He knows right now he is unlikely to get drafted. There isn't really a need the dog and pony show most kids put on by declaring and then big announcement about returning.

This has been a good discussion, let’s keep it that way.
Lighten up Francis. I was half joking and half serious. It's a viable solution for him to establish citizenship AND possibly keep any NIL money AND which could help keep him in a Scarlet Knight uniform. All very "good" things, I'd say.

Given his position, I just don’t know how high his stock will ever get in today’s NBA. If he continues to work on his D around the rim, shot blocking and finishing he could do well similar to Mitchell Robinson.
Mitchell Robinson is much bigger then Cliff

These kids are usually very unrealistic about how good they are and what their real chance is in the NBA. I had a mid major coach tell me everyone on the team, including the last guy on the bench, believed they could make it in the NBA if they just got the right opportunity.

This may not be a popular thing to say.

I really like Cliff a lot and he means a lot to the team, but.....

His progression from last year to this year really stalled. His NBA stock has plummeted from where he was last year at this time. I think he needs to look in the mirror and ask himself why am I not as skilled as a guy like Hunter Dickinson. Why have I not developed a perimeter game? Why do I have limited low post moves?

How much of those answers is Cliff to blame? Is it just not in the cards for him to have those skills? Would he be better off somewhere else?

I don't know what is important to Cliff. I don't know the answers to those questions. I realize how unbelievably valuable he is to our team and I do believe he plays incredibly hard. I really expected there be more tools in his offensive tool box this year.

I don't think many people understand this. It's crazy the toxic environment these kids grow up in that leads to this.

He had fixed his turnover issue by the end of the 2022 season but it was bad again this year. He got better from the first half to the second half again but not nearly as good as he was in the back half of last season.

2021-22 first ten Big 10 games: 19 turnovers
2021-22 last ten Big 10 games: 9 turnovers

2022-23 first ten Big 10 games: 25 turnovers
2022-23 last ten Big 10 games: 17 turnovers

I wonder how many of those this year were vs post double teams.
I wish I could see stats on how going to Cliff in the post worked out - points per possesion when Cliff gets a post touch vs other scenarios.
Anecdotally, we were worse Cliff got a post touch, against good teams at least

NO way Roy was much better at Cliff's size he should block way more shots and he is no way nearly as good on defense as Roy was not even a debate

The other issue with Cliff is he really lacks basketball smarts ie doesn't know how to hedge on picks, holds the ball too long when it goes into him its like a black hole the ball never comes out, like you say he has not improved his post game and unless he dunks the ball basically has no touch and of course has hands of stone

To me this is one of the biggest questions after yesterday.

Will Cliff go to the G League to further work on his game? He will talk to RHJ about his journey after not getting drafted.

RHJ signed a two way deal with the Raptors. Between the G League and the 4 games in the NBA, he’ll make at least $500K this year.
Cliff needs to stay All the years he can in college

Good to hear that RHJ will make 500K this year, mostly because he got roster time in the NBA.

But if Cliff only plays in the G league next season with no NBA, then how much does he make, maybe 50K?

Keep in mind that the G league has Centers like Trevion Williams from Purdue, Luka Garza from Iowa and others that appear to be stalled at that level. How likely is it that Cliff will make an NBA roster next season?
i hear its way more than that and he could make even more next year like over a million

ok, I stand corrected then. memory fades. but I do remember a late first-half tussle Roy had with a sub inserted to get them both ejected. Not sure the year. Anyone remember the opponent ?

As someone who maxed out at JV in HS, I don't know how any of these guys leave early.
Even RHJ had his extra COVID year.

Youre an elite CBB athlete!
On TV multiple times a week!
How can you be tired of that.

Must he insane.
Obviously I have a different perspective.

If there is anyone I can understand leaving with eligibility left and a dubious NBA future, it would be RHJ, his father is a 5 time NBA Champion, played with Jordan, was the 8th pick in the draft, 15-year NBA career etc.

The student visa/no NIL is a real monkey wrench.

Can he even accept funds from an agent for pre-draft workouts expenses?
Even if he did declare and stay in the draft - how long does it take to switch his visa status?
He can "earn" his NIL money when RU goes overseas this summer.
