As long as he can manipulate some words around to (in his mind) continue on being a message board genius! It depends what your definition of "is" is. Or "douche bag."

but I'll give you credit, obviously you said before the 08 season that 07 wasn't decent. So go you. For every person who said then what they're saying now, there's 10 people who have forgotten how wooly they really were. And that was my point.

So if someone had asked you in January 2008 what our season would be like, you would've predicted a losing season? Considering at the time we didn't realize we would be without Mike Brown, Jamon Hughes, Anthony Johnson, Jamar Cheney (after the LA Tech game), and Sherrod & Pegues for the LA Tech game?<div>
</div><div>Call me crazy, but I truly believe we could have been a 6-6 team if we don't lose those guys. I mean, look a the o-line that started the LA Tech game. We lost our LT after spring practice, then Sherrod had a foot infection for part of fall practice. I don't even know who played either tackle position that game, and I assume JC was starting his first game at center. We had no Pegues and I seem to remember his replacement, Jamayl Smith screwing up at least one punt return.</div>

we're 6-6 with a decent kicker. We lost to Auburn as everyone knows 3-2 and if my memory is correct Carlson missed a field goal in that game, and we lost to UK by one point where we missed a point blank field goal and maybe even an extra point. And that's not even counting the La Tech game that we have no good excuse for losing.

If Carlson doesn't duck hook a 35-yard field goal against Auburn we win that game 5-3, and if he doesn't miss an extra point and a 27-yard field goal against Kentucky, we win that game 17-14. That's a 6-6 season and another bowl game and there's no way you fire a football coach at Mississippi State who makes back to back bowl games. So thank you Adam Carlson. You are probably the most important MSU player of the last 10 years.

for hitting the game winning field goal against Ole Miss in 2007. So, he somehow manages to be a hero and the unsung martyr for MSU football.

1936 Orange Duquesne (Pa.) 12-13 L
1940 Orange Georgetown (DC) 14-7 W
1963 Liberty N.C. State 16-12 W
1974 Sun North Carolina 26-24 W
1980 Sun Nebraska 17-31 L
1981 Hall Of Fame Kansas 10-0 W
1991 Liberty Air Force 15-38 L
1992 Peach North Carolina 17-21 L
1994 Peach N.C. State 24-28 L
1998 Cotton Texas 11-38 L
1999 Peach Clemson 17-7 W
2000 Independence Texas A&M 43-41 W
2007 Liberty Central Florida 10-3 W

Rocky's great Sun Bowl victory in 1974 is in the top three. The Snow Bowl also ranks in the elite. The Peach Bowl of 1999 gave us ten wins for the first time ever; however, the team was totally out of control for the last five minutes of the football game. We were flagged multiple times for Unsportsmanlike conduct and other stupid stuff. Still,I would have to put it in the top three because of it being the tenth win.

On the other side, you have to look at our first four JWS bowl games as huge disappointments. We were favored over Air Force, NC, and NC State and lost all three games in piss-poor style. The 1998 Cotton Bowl is the worst of them all. We had such high expectations and had our highest prestige game in a long time, and it was basically over in the first five minutes. JWS was a great coach for our program in the 1990's, but he did not do a good job of showing our teams at bowl games until the last two of his run.

I do not really remember much about the 1981 Liberty Bowl. I remember it being a boring game, but I also give credit to that team for asserting its identity as a great defense by shutting out its opponent.

I did not say that the 2007 game was the best ever. I said it was one of the best ever. Maybe it is silly on one level because it's partly based on the fact that we've had so few bowl wins. But that is a big reason that it should be valued and respected. Also, it was a good performance, which we do not always get in bowl games.

I can't say much about the three earlier games except that I'm glad we won two of them. What is the best source on our 1940 Orange Bowl? I wonder if anybody reading this board now was a Mississippi State fan at that time. A ten year old then would be about 80 now. I wish he would put those lifeworn hands on a keyboard and tell us how it went down.

But that's kind of circular because we also have Croom to thank for having that awful kicker on the roster and for playing him 4 years without so much as thinking of looking for another kicker. Hell we seriously had punt/pass/kick contestants who could kick better than Carlson.
