Cal just never has any answers in last 4 minutes of games. He’s been bailed out a few times by unbelievable shots but it always looks the same.
Being a really good coach matters more today than I believe it did 10 years ago. Some of these psycho coaches like Hurley are going to eat you alive if you’re a moderate at best tactician like Cal.

The Calipari we all loved seemed to die after 2015. The spark was gone. Maybe it was all just John Robic, I don’t know. I remember when Calipari said he wasn’t going to coach into his 60s early in his career here. But now he’s coaching past retirement age. It’s sad to see someone with the fire he had when he came here become the husk he has become.

A part of me is also sad he didn’t just retire with dignity and become a Joe B Hall figure for the program. I think a lot of it has to do with Mitch Barnhart. It seems all our coaches end up pissed off about something and I wonder what or who it is?
I can agree with all of this, for sure. For the life of me, I just don’t get the Mitch Barnhart thing. It blows me away. I feel like he must have a file on Capiluto and all the trustees or something.

If they don't win it all this year, will Scheyer start feeling the heat? People can be down on our 13 years dry spell, but Duke is on a 10 yr one themselves, and they have had TONS of elite pros, including multiple POTY.

Nah it was after that 2017 loss in the E8- the game we got screwed big time on. Cal after that sensed he was gonna get screwed over every time so why try.

That Fox/Monk team deserved a FF run. I've never wanted to strike someone before, but Higgins is close.

Btw what top programs have 2 losses now besides us? Off the top of my head thinking Kansas, Florida & St. Johns?

You're right. We're better.
I think we certainly have some significant advantages over their fanbase. Wasn’t it Delk who said the best part about playing at Kentucky was the fans. And the worst part was playing for the fans. TyTy felt the fans didn’t care about the players. Greg Williams stated that when you are a Kentucky basketball player and you go on the road you are an enemy. When you are a Kentucky player and not playing well, when you go home you are the enemy. We also are the only fans that can fill up a 24,000 seat arena for a press conference. We have the potential to be the greatest selling point in recruiting and also one of the greatest deterrents. As with most things, it’s complicated and the answer isn’t a single black and white thing.

Let Acuff and Thomas do whatever and you're not a serious threat. Winning plays vs undisciplined losing plays. Coaching to win vs. coaching to reel in the next high school projected top draft pick (otherwise known as "stud"). Looking at the box-score vs watching the game. Acuff has 21 points and Thomas 13 . . . and their play is the reason Ark. didn't have a chance to win in the end. The real fault, however, is on the guy who allows it and then complains about the way they finished in the postgame.

Arkansas has very poor play discipline for sure. If Cal gets that reeled in, they have an impressive set of players to work with.

I just can’t pull for Arkansas and glad they lost🤷‍♂️
I couldn't cheer for either team, but I *MAYBE* could've cheered for Arkansas if their fans didn't make trying to "dunk on" UK and our fans their entire personality, their boosters didn't announce they would match us "dollar for dollar" on any recruit we went after (even though now they act like NIL is this mortal sin since UK supposedly has the highest payroll, which I don't buy but it is funny to see the flip flop), and our former players and recruits that defected acting like we committed some injustice against them.

They're basically Little Brother Lite now.

They are so irrelevant historically that I can’t see why Kentucky fans care. Their only title was before we heard the name “Monica Lewinsky”. Lol

Guard play has hurt Duke in their last two Final Four trips. Banchero, Flagg, Boozer and the casts they’ve had have been very good to great. But no one’s gone into a game against them worried about Jeremy Roach or Tyrese Proctor. Or Foster this year for that matter. Duke has stockpiled awesome talent at the 3/4/5 spots in recent years but weaker players at the two guard positions. You can’t win a title without great guards.

You have to give Scheyer credit as he has that program rolling and he’s the anti-K on many levels. He’s won two ACC Tournaments in three years, has won at least 27 games a year and went to the E8 and then blew a chance to play for the title in last years Final Four. In terms of anti-K, for one thing it looks like he’ll play anybody and you have to respect that. And he’s figured out that height and physicality are critical Championship elements. Too bad for the Dukies he hasn’t yet landed a Tyus Jones or J Williams to steer his boat.

Scheyer’s philosophy is just different than K with guards. Scheyer has more of a positionless basketball orientation. He prioritizes size and switchability over speed, agility and scoring. I actually like Scheyer’s philosophy there personally. I don’t like rolling out with 6’1” or 6’2” guards, but it’s not a right or wrong thing. I think you just don’t see as many guys like a Jay Williams under Scheyer because of that.

No. They went to a FF last year. Their fans aren’t idiots.

true. But I also think we should say they have Nike the NCAA, team USA, and foreign money advantages. None of which should be allowed.

And they haven’t played in a title game in going on what? 11 years? You can’t fire Scheyer if he doesn’t make a final four this year but man, Duke has been the biggest underachiever when you consider all of that in? What? Ever?

Scheyer only inherited the team in 2023 though. I don’t think Duke fans are championship or bust the same way Kentucky fans are, by and large.
He is under no threat by the fans, but let’s say he’s elite 8 this year. Let’s say sweet 16 next year. Let’s say 1 seeds the entire time. The foreign money and their boosters are going to begin to have issues. they have crazy built in advantages, to the point where yea I think Duke should be in a final four 1/3 - 1/4 of the time easy. Their fans aren’t part of their program like UK, they’re a foreign fanbase and a Walmart T-shirt fanbase. . But the boosters setting this all up will definitely be getting anxious if that happens.

Also keep in mind, around somewhere in 2008/2009/2010 coach K was being called to be fired by the students and fans at Duke. He was firmly under heat a lot of people just don’t remember it. They were all saying he’s past his prime and needs to be replaced. So their fans aren’t too far from us actually.
