Hard to disagree. Our atmosphere was much better pre-jumbotron.

Well who in their right mind is managing the gameday experience that is the sonic cup race or whatever that is?? That is the absolute dumbest orchestrated thing I've ever seen. Stop this now. But if not, put members of the ice dawgs in those suits and let em go at it to the finish line. Then you've got yourself a cross promotion. From what I have heard is that Learfield owns the rights to the video board. So you got a for profit company managing part of the gameday experience via the video board.
The atmosphere in 2009 and 2010 was awesome and that was with the jumbotron. I think part of it is the ridiculous commercials and little excitement with our team b/c we now know what to expect.

... I stayed home last week to avoid the jumbotron annoyance. At this point, if you are interested in actually watching the game, TV is the way to go....
Nothing else is necessary. All advertising should be simple images that flash up from time to time or shown on the screen perimeter. Pre-game and half time, do whatever the hell you want. Game time, supplement the game nothing more. It's a huge buzzkill and distracts from the game. End it.
What do other stadiums do with their video boards? For someone who goes to every game it would be interesting to know.
I think our video board is so big that the commercials stand out more.
Bingo. Auburn, Bama, OM and others play commercials but they are less noticeable because the screen isn't so dominating. This is especially the case somewhere like Alabama where they have more, smaller screens. I'm convinced other schools don't crank up the volume on the commercials like we do either. Not to sound like a blue hair, but turning down the damn commercials would be a big step in the right direction.

I have already stated that I do not believe our new expansion needs another jumbotron. You can see the current one from all over the stadium and the expansion will be facing it. I agree that the fans (myself included) find themselves staring at the 'tron rather than participating in the game. A good team does not need any other diversions, just put a good product on the field. Take the money for the new jumbotron and make sure we have the best sound system in the country.
Correct. But I'm sure the commercials are louder during commercials, just as they are on television.
Thursday night my good man, Thursday night.
