I think EW has some fancy grey ones. Regardless, I love his matchup. 2 or my favorite teams in the area. Shame one of them will have to go home.
East Surry will be prepared to play a fully healthy team all healthy or not ...

That stinks, the east wilkes team early in the season was a beast. Always like to see the old northwest 1a making noise. Was wanting to see the best players from both teams on the field friday night , we might talk a littlw trash back and forth, but east wilkes , elkin, starmount are and will always be the northwest 1a in my eyes and respected on this side of 77
If coach opens the offense up East Wilkes should be alright. If we get into a ground it and pound it game against East Surry we will lose. We have the speed advantage, now get the ball down field to our playmakers.
Teams seem to have figured out all of the eye candy behind the line of scrimmage. Time to keep the opposing team off balance. We have the team to do it.

Well defense stinks again. EW has made no changes to the personnel. Still tryin to two platoon...it aint good.
Well well..a tale of two teams..one improved..one became super stagnant..EW had a good season..but imploded.once again at the end of the season...Great Game East Surry...
Good game by EW, #10 	 are studs. I thought our guys played well. On to Murphy after giving thanks for being a part of such an outstanding group this week. Thank God we live in a country where we can be a part of something as awesome as High school football.

#9 had maybe 20 carries the entire season for EW. The two platoon system is great. But the strength that kid has is tough to be on the sidelines only playing defense. He will be back next year though. He is a junior. #1 who has been out the last 4 weeks, has been supremely missed he had 850+yds and 11 tds and was the fastest kid on the team The offense is a shell of itself without him as a pitch option in that backfield. But heck..we couldn't tackle anyone. ES was up for the challenge..and ran over and through the Ronda Redbirds. East Surry was ready. The change at qb from #7 to #12, was a major plus for East Surry.. it made the run game a lot more potent!!

The big difference in this game between last time they met, was the change of QB, #7 was good but he can’t do what #12 can. I think adding #7 to the defense though is a huge addition on that side of the ball. The O-line just dominated East Wilkes all night, and East Surry got stops when they needed to get stops. ES will lose some key seniors, but WOW at all of those young sophomores they have out there. 12, 7, and 1 are going to be so tough to handle in the future.
Having 3 (#7,#8,#12) QBs is a nice problem to have. We ran all our plays out of two formations all night, til we eat the clock with 2 minutes ago.
I've heard Coach Diamont called everything from an idiot to things I'll not repeat on here by some of our on fans all season long. All I have to say to that is look at where we are now. He's forgot more about football than all the experts in the stands on OUR sideline will ever know. Just because a few talking heads coached little league a few years ago they think it's there time to run the show. Sorry fellas gimme coach Diamont and what he can get out of this bunch of men and I'll be behind them till the end. At this point if you ain't behind them, shut up and get out of the way. People are going to disagree with everything I understand that. Shoot I've even scratched my head over a full back trap or two through the years but dang come on. Get behind our boys and the coaches and trust the process.

Not so sure tackling was the issue as much as poor pursuit was from what I saw. East Wilkes didn't put themselves in position to be able to make tackles. To make tackles you have to go to the ball. Kids not filling gaps, poor angles, didn't have 11 guys going to the ball, dancing instead of running to the ball just to mention a few. The defensive effort looked poor all around. You shouldn't lose a game you score 36 points in. East Surry called and played a great game. 12 is going to create matchup problems for 2 more years. Hope I can make the trip to Murphy to watch them next week.
EW left better athletes on the sidelines instead of inserting them on the defensive side of the ball. He has a two platoon system.but its not college ball..who says you have to do that in 1a ball? I guess he didnt wanna hurt anyones feelings..So now EW sits at home..and everybody's feelings are intact. Loyalty is good..but when it ain't working..abort mission and try something else..EW had some key injuries..but with a squad of 40+ players..there's no excuses to be had. I still don't get it. Just to sit back and watch the defense get decimated the last 4 games..yet not many personnel changes. He's an excellent coach..Im just kind of shocked. Great game East Surry..but you know that EW isn't the same team you faced in Aug..they're 5x worse..and yes you guys improved.
Just curious as to which athletes you think should have been on defense? I know 9 and 10 played both sides most of the night.
First time this year that#9 and 10 played on both sides of the ball..Lets see #17...#3...all of those guys shouldve played both sides of the ball all year and #1..(if he was available)..its 1a ball...most teams go both ways..#9 never plays offense..and he's a beast..would not have played offense at all if #21 hadnt left with an injury.
I don't know how much of a difference having 17 and 3 on defense would have made. 17 didn't have a good game last night. Even had they of been on defense it wouldn't have stopped the defensive line from getting dominated all night. The air just came out at Elkin and never came back.
JK is an excelent coach. Just odd that 2yrs in a row the team crumples the last 4 or 5 games of the season..even when the competition didnt really get any better.
Really the air came out at Ashe..they faced their 1st good passing team..I knew then that EW defense wasnt good at all. They had simply just outscored everyone up til then. They won by 20+ at Ashe, but I knew then that the defense was weak and needed some wholesale changes.
There's just a lot of kids on that team. Everybody in 1a has injuries this time of year. I just think #1 not being available on offense was good enough for 2 losses alone this year.
You may be right ThunderStruck..Im sure the coaching staff did all they could. I respect the coaches at EW. I think they have a great staff there. The kids believe in them. Just gotta keep working hard at it. The program is in the best hands it's been in, since it started in the 70's.
Last night at the beginning #9 would get pressure on the Quarterback but he always had an outlet because our DB's played so far off the line. 4 games in a row with no noticeable adjustments.
I'm going to get off for a while because of disappointment. I need to remember what the program was like before JK arrived and be thankful.
DaBlue, I agree get your best athletes on the field. Nothing wrong with good backups playing to give some rest, but I want the best on the field. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Sounds like a good one in Rhonda last night , congrats to all. VERY interesting matchup in bulldog country next week. That weak as water northwest 1a aint to shabby after all, at the top that is. The Bears could have hung a 100 on polk last night. One week at a time as both teams have tall mountains in front of them ----- but you have to wonder at how special a Bears / Cardinal region final would be. Im sure fan bases are rooting for each other hard , all i can say is HOW BOUT DEM CARDS!!
I thought the East Surry fanbase was good last night considering the lack of seating. Visitor side was full and had people lining the fence. They were loud and excited. The ES Offense was a bear last night. Great season EW. Hate when our local teams have to knock each other off in the playoffs.
