East Wilkes vs Wilkes Central

Big game but after watching both play, and Central play Elkin tonight, East is head and shoulders a better team. They are very well coached.

WC's defense is well below average. They won't be able to stop East and their diverse version of the Triple Option. They couldn't even stop Elkin, Alleghany, or any other struggling team they've played. WC's offense is all about spreading you out and handing the ball off to number 2. They do throw the ball but it's strictly a one read and number 7 is their "go-to". The QB is a good QB with a good arm.

East will run at will on WC's defense and will be successful with the pass when they need to throw. I'm not convinced WC is the 2nd best team in the conference either. North Wilkes has a very good team as well and they are just as capable of beating WC. The "conference championship" may of been a few weeks ago when East and North played.

I predict a close half, but East will pull away and I see East winning around 35-20. The North-West game may be an even better one to attend. Thoughts?

EW will need to be more crisp than they were tonight offensively against Starmount, to put up the points needed to beat WC. Although East blew out Starmount, they seemed to struggle getting their running game going consistently, to help out the passing game.

All the Wilkes Co. teams are enjoying success this season. When was the last time that happened if ever? Really early, but looking to 2017 which one of the Wilkes teams likely takes the next step and gets even better next season?

Next season, East Wilkes for sure. Their entire team returns next season and they should be considered contenders in the West. WC will be good again as well. There will probably be a significant drop after them.

Next year East and WC will be the cream of the crop. East will be special if the guy's continue to put the time in to be great. I really believe East can win the state next season.

As for this year, I give the edge to Wilkes Central because of their athletes. Having said that I have not seen them play this year. I know we both lost to Surry Central. East Wilkes had no business losing that game. 6 turnovers and they still should have won. Speed is what scares me the most about this game. I look for a high scoring game with turnovers being the difference.

Then the next week East has the Blackhawks which will be a tough game. Our toughest two games at the end of the year. Hopefully that will have us ready for the playoffs. I do think Mt. Airy is the team to beat in the West, but I don't think they have a huge gap over East. That would be a fun game to watch.

WC may have a slight speed advantage. I dont think it is as pronounced as people want to believe. I definitely give strength and depth of OL/DL and overall defense to EW. I will give the offensive diversity advantage also to EW. I will give WC a slight advantage in skill player output however, very slight. EW will need to maximize their time management of the ball with sustained drives. WC is a quick strike offense, and will try to use their speed in open space to keep EW defense in the hole. This game could be every bit as good as last year's, which was epic!!!

I don't know. I've seen both teams play on different occasions. East Wilkes has diversified their Triple option a bit but WC was the most balanced team BY FAR I seen in the MVC and they will put JoJo, Parsons and Boles all behind center and run a variety of plays.

As far as speed WC has a clear advantage. #2s first step is ridiculous and there is a reason he is averaging nearly 10ypc. Horton, Boles and Ferguson also have wheels to boot. Defintley think WC has 2 or 3 more game breaking athletes than EW. Dedric Smith is an animal on their d line as well.

I don't think that will decide the game though. EW is well coached and extremely disciplined. The gap between the 2 is clearly on the defensive side. I see East winning by a couple TDs.

After watching the Bynum kid tear it up last year, it would take all of those guys together just to be as dominant as he was. He was a beast. EW cant fall behind or give WC the slightest degree of confidence. It is at WC. They will have revenge on their mind. I'm sure they felt that they let one slip last year. EW is riding a wave of self confidence of their own, and will hopefully look at WC as just another team in their way on their quest of a back to back conference championship.

Wilkes Central has scored 9 more points than East Wilkes this year, 344 to 335. East Wilkes D has only given up 81 points. Central has given up 258.

I do believe turnovers will play a critical role in the outcome of this game. I can see East D slowing down WC, but I have a hard time seeing Central shut East down. They have not shut teams down all year. Why start this week?

They will be more hyped up for this game than any other this season. Chomping at the bit for revenge from their meltdown last year. East will need to play sound defense and keep WC's athletes in check. WC will try HB draws out of that 1 back set quite a bit, especially to try and get Parsons going early. However, EW can't forget Boles who will line up all over the field as well. EW will need to tackle in space well. WC tries to get their speed out in space, which has wrecked havoc on most teams. I don't see WC stopping EW either. Styles make fights though.

Good game so far. East has reverted back to bad center/qb excahnges and drive killing fumbles. WC is playing well. Qb has all day to loft up passes. Luckily EW defense is playing well enough to only be down 11-0 at the half. It could be much much worse. Refs have made a gazillion calls all against EW. No excuses by any means though. Cardinals need a great half time adjustment period to get into this ballgame. WC defense so far proving everyone wrong. It's extremely tough to get anything outside on them so far. Ew Qb doing a great job of evading the rush like houdini. Offensive Line...YOU NEED TO STEP IT UP!!!

They sure did. That WC team would be better every night versus Ew this year based on what i saw tonight. East wasnt ever able to impose their will on offense at all. I credit WC totally for that. Ew played also like sore losers with the silly unsportsman like penalties!! Refs well..Not Ew night.

Fun game to watch overall.

WC. Great job and outstanding defense. If y'all play like that in the playoffs y'all will be a problem.

Great game plan by WC on offense in the 2nd half. Using the wildcat to control the clock and throwing the ball after lulling the EW defense to sleep. The front 7 for WC did an outstanding job all night not allowing the EW defense to get outside at all. Where has that been all year? Penalties killed East in the 1st half and then killed the WC "O" in the 2nd. The goal line stand by the WC defense was the difference in the game. It was all downhill for EW after that. You could tell they were overzealous, sloppy and aggravated following that series.

Pretty evenly matched teams regardless of the score. Tyler Boles was your player of the game. He had a tremendous effect on the game. I wouldn't want to play EW next week. They are going to take it out on West, mark my words.

I'm a little disappointed in East. They didn't get Reid the ball at all. Though he could have been a factor. Just no answer tonight. Looking forward to next year and the following year as well. These 2 teams will decide conference for a while and it's awesome for Wilkes County and the area.

Mutual respect between both teams. Can't blame the unsportsmanlikes too much. There has been an enormous amount of hype and buildup for this game for over the last several months.

You were right about Boles. He made his presence felt on both sides of the ball.

Another young gun to watch out for coming through the ranks at WC will be upcoming freshman next year JoRay Morrison. You heard it here 1st. This cat has the potential to be one the best athletes to come out of Wilkes Central in a looooong time. Mock my word!!!

Yep indeed it did. Now EW needs for N.Wilkes to upset WC next week. EW needs to handle business against W.Wilkes also next week for a three-way tie for 1st between WC, NW, and EW. If WC wins then they win the conference championship outright.

I was not impressed with the play calling tonight . In the first half East didn't mix it up. I believe they should have went spread and up tempo.

No disrespect intended but this is a WC/EW post. With that being said that was the sloppiest game we have played since the Surry Central game. Hats off to WC for a very well executed game plan.

As for your comment BUZZ, Yes we lost to Surry Central by 1 point after coughing up 6 turnovers. Scores/stats mean nothing as was shown last night in Moravian Falls.

East wilkes will be a tough out in the playoffs. That D is no joke. They held Central to 11 points until the 4th when Central hit a big play after East had the ball goaline series. The last TD was after an East turnover in their own territory. The score does not indicate the type of game it was last night.

We only lost to SC because of youth and turnovers. Really sloppy that night . WC was the better team last night .

I would love for EW to make the trip to the Granite City. It would be a much tougher game than you think .
