be such a good recruiter. One of the great mysteries of life I guess. I guess he gets the recruits so worked up into a frenzy that they can no longer think logically.

to me that just means they are good at getting money into kid's hands.

Doesn't that answer how Ed Orgeron can be such a great recruiter?

Coach O: (unintelligible grunting followed by awkward silence)
Recruit: (thinking to himself) What the 17 did he just say?
Coach O: (setting money bag on table) Footbaw!!!
Recruit: Sign me up!

There you go...

It's not necessarily that he's that great in a living room. It's that he outworks his competition and he does things that others haven't thought about before to get any slight edge on the competition.

Examples being sending his assistants out with camcorders when he was at Ole Miss so they could get any bit of film on prospects, even if it was just playing pick up basketball. And most recently at UT, he was the one that came up with the idea of using a helicopter to recruit the Atlanta area. To a 17 year old, that's impressive and makes them feel like they are the No. 1 guy out there. And I the hostess episode has his fingerprints all over it. I'm sure it was his idea, and I'm sure though they will say they weren't, they were "encouraged" to show up with signs in UT colors.

Orgeron is the type that makes the NCAA come up with new rules, because he stays ahead of most coaches when it comes to ideas. Saban has a similar knack for recruiting and doing that extra thing that no one else is doing. Saban just has the same knack for everything else to do with coaching as well, not just recruiting.

I really don't feel like Orgeron is the bag man type of coach more than anyone else. As I said, his "cheating" is more often in the fact that he plays in the gray areas and loopholes when it comes to the rules.

kids are too scared to tell him no. It's similar to a hostage situation. If Eddie O was in your living room all geeked up on Red Bull shouting gibberish at you and your family, wouldn't you do whatever it took to make him leave?

I was just about to post that the best recruiter = the best stalker. Helicopters, paying chicks whores to travel to HS games in other states, and who knows what else is going on out of sight with the guy.....I would not be surprised if he pays to have call-girls find the players on their recruiting trip (for the record I image the same goes on at a lot of places).......recruiting and college football in general is really getting out of hand.

Not to mention, the guy may be middle aged but has the mind set of a 19 year. He can probably relate to them well.

Ed didn't invent the blow-job, he just applied it to recruiting practices...

Combine this with assistants capturing the deed on a camcorder - while in a helecopter - and you have a committed athlete...
