Excited to see this game again. Always fun when the Aces and Vikings square off!
There's nothing to say, really. There is no "heat" between the teams. These programs hold each other in pretty high regard. Some would say this is a "revenge" game for Edenton, but the winner of this game goes to the state championship game just like last year. If you aren't giving 100% then you probably don't need to be there. I think AcesWild posted in an earlier thread that he didn't think they played their best game last year, so I believe the Aces focus will be internal. Instead of getting caught up in playing Tarboro's game, they need to play their game. If they do that, they will give a much better showing than last year. The knock on Edenton is always size. Edenton usually wins by using technique, speed, deception and preparation to overcome it. These are areas of the game that Tarboro puts a lot of emphasis on also and the Vikings have the size advantage on top of that. As demonstrated against North Stanly, Tarboro has no problem just pounding the ball straight ahead and beating you 4-6 yards at a time.Everyone is kind of quiet on this one. One thing I know, it will be rocking Friday night bc I know the aces are going to bring a good crowd.
Probably not going to find any takers on coming up here and predicting an upset. Our culture from top to bottom as set by our coach is such that a lot of trash talking in person or on boards is not looked upon favorably and that carries over to our fans.I am hopeful this will be a competitive game but fear Tarboro’s defense will be too disruptive to the Aces backfield. If I am right, I would expect several turnovers on those option pitches - similar to last year. For pure entertainment, I would have liked to see North Stanly play Edenton. Cam Davis speed vs. M. Stanley’s speed at RB. That would be a great game.
I think Tarboro wins by a comfortable margin. They have too many weapons for the Aces to handle this year.
I suppose we need some Aces fans to come on here and predict an upset of the reigning champions in order to get folks pumped up.
Any takers?
Couldn’t have stated any better myself KWC. I don’t recall any Tarboro posters being disrespectful or obnoxious despite the score of last year’s game. The obnoxious posts have been from fans of other teams. There's nothing to say, really. There is no "heat" between the teams. These programs hold each other in pretty high regard. Most of the posters that support these two schools on this board don't want to become the other team's bulletin board material either. Do I think Tarboro is going to win? Yes. Do I have to be obnoxious about it? No.
St. Andrews in LaurinburgAceswild - Is Bailey playing anywhere? I never heard about his offers. He had a great career in Edenton.
John A. Holmes was a long-time school superintendent who was revered. The name change occurred in the 1950s, not long after the current high school building was constructed and right after John A. Holmes died.Question for you Edenton guys. Very few people outside of Edenton know the school's name is Holmes High School. The logo is an E, so its not like anyone is pushing the Holmes name too hard. Who was Holmes, when did the name change occur and why?
Yeah, you guys were in our conference when I was in school and I barely recognized the name Holmes at all. It was mostly Edenton and occasionally Edenton Holmes.John A. Holmes was a long-time school superintendent who was revered. The name change occurred in the 1950s, not long after the current high school building was constructed and right after John A. Holmes died.
Previous poster addressed who John A. Holmes was. On the question of Edenton v. Holmes, Edenton is located in Chowan County. Holmes is currently the only high school in Chowan County. There used to be three high schools—-D.F. Walker High School (named for another respected educator), Chowan High School (named because it was located in the county) and Edenton High School (named because it was located in town). I try my best to refer to the school as Holmes because that is the correct shortened name of the school and because the name better represents the whole county.Question for you Edenton guys. JAHAces I see you are back.John A. Holmes was a long-time school superintendent who was revered. The name change occurred in the 1950s, not long after the current high school building was constructed and right after John A. Holmes died.
So why the E?Previous poster addressed who John A. Holmes was. On the question of Edenton v. Holmes, Edenton is located in Chowan County. Holmes is currently the only high school in Chowan County. Wow! Haven't seen you here since last year this time. Aces are coming to Tarboro and all the celebs show up!JAHAces I see you are back.
I guess just because we are commonly known and referred to as Edenton Holmes. I use Edenton Holmes and Holmes interchangeably. It is hard to explain kinda like why do the Tar Heels have a ram as a mascot. A friend of mine came up with the E I guess around 15 years ago. We call it the electric E and it sorta stuck. So why the E?
He is our celebrity poster and celebrity fan. He is the type fan if our games were on TV the camera would pan towards him and show him just like all the other celebrities isn’t that right JAHAces.Wow! Like Jessica Simpson in the luxury box?He is our celebrity poster and celebrity fan. He is the type fan if our games were on TV the camera would pan towards him and show him just like all the other celebrities isn’t that right JAHAces.
I figured I’d join in instead of just eavesdropping.JAHAces I see you are back.
Well, I do love our ACES and blowing the big blue horn!!He is our celebrity poster and celebrity fan. He is the type fan if our games were on TV the camera would pan towards him and show him just like all the other celebrities isn’t that right JAHAces.

For a celebrity, you have an unusually boring Twitter feed. It’s nothing but scoring updates! No outrageous claims, flaming public officials or shameless self promotion.Well, I do love our ACES and blowing the big blue horn!!

From the Aces’ standpoint I will offer a few comparisons between last year and this year. Last year our QB1 was injured the first game of the season and wasn’t able to play QB the rest of the year. He returned from the injury this year and is playing well. When QB1 went down last year we had no other options other than to move RB Mijonta Stanley from running back to QB. Stanley is a great athlete and even better young man and he never complained about playing out of position. It would probably not have made a difference in last year’s result but it would have been nice to have seen both Stanley and Keimon Bailey in the backfield together with our first string QB.
This year we have our QB back and we have more running backs contributing and easing Stanley’s load somewhat. Our passing game is a little stronger also. I hope #11 Hill for us has a good game as he is fun to watch. Many of you Tarboro fans may remember him from last year because you all commented on how hard he played as the smallest player in our regular rotation.
I appreciate the respect these two teams have shown for each other even though it appears Tarboro has been a step or two ahead of the Aces recently.
I have noted on other threads the unwarranted disrespect shown when it is apparent the competing schools have successful programs.
Oddly enough, the more you downgrade and disrespect another program the LESS likely fans of other teams (sometimes across the state) are willing to openly compliment the disrespector’s team. I believe its similar to bragging..... the more you talk about yourself, the less others will.
Fierce competition can be waged without denigrating comments and overstated bravado which have absolutely zero impact on the results.
Respecting your opponent while trying your best to win the contest are not mutually exclusive.
Good luck to both teams. Win or lose these memories last a lifetime.
Nothing like Tarboro’s four RBs at or around 800 yards apiece but:More rbs? Thought Stanley was all you had? He put unlike 1500 yards in the first 5 games but was sharing carries? Post the stats of the other backs?
That may be true but Rhône and Davis are at home and Stanly is still playing.stanly has so many rushing yards because he is the dive guy and no one can stop the dive .... edenton does a good job adjusting to the defense people use to stop the dive ... stanly would maybe be a top 5 back at tarboro ... maybe .... tarboros speed and size on defense will kill!!!! edenton...rhone and davis was the best backs tarboro have and will face all year and we see what tarboro did to them
Good post. You have a good grasp on both Tarboro and Edenton however if Stanley were on Tarboro I think he would be right there in the mix with the core group of guys between 600-800 yards. I remember most of the Tarboro RBs by name from last year and they are all tough, strong and fast. Stanley is built different from them—a little taller and more slender—he would give opposing defenses a different look.stanly has so many rushing yards because he is the dive guy and no one can stop the dive .... edenton does a good job adjusting to the defense people use to stop the dive ... stanly would maybe be a top 5 back at tarboro ... maybe .... tarboros speed and size on defense will kill!!!! edenton...rhone and davis was the best backs tarboro have and will face all year and we see what tarboro did to them
