Question for you? What do you think about the Aston Villa goal being disallowed? I think they got screwed. But they did give up 2 goals late. Arguably they might not have if up 1-0. But I think if you lose by 2 goals, hard to blame it on a referee bad call. And WTF was Martinez thinking getting that red card at end of 1st half?
As a Newcastle fan I thought it was the right call...

And thanks, Martinez! Best goal keeper in the world!***

That was a good goal. The ref blew his whistle too quick like they are instructed not to do these days, so no VAR. It was only his 10th game in a match with VAR.

I saw that. How in the heck do you put such an inexperienced referee in charge of such an important game? SEC officiating has nothing on Premier League officiating when it comes to incompetence.

It's every bit as bad for sure.

For once an early transfer rumor turned out to be correct. Frimpong signed today. Hopefully the other two big ones are correct as well.

I had no idea there were other Newcastle fans in here. It's worrisome that we seem caught in a constant cycle of backroom drama. We can't keep our recruitment staff in place long enough to come up with a coherent plan and it feels like we're already behind the 8 ball on what needs to be a big summer for us

Yeah, but Mitchell was only here for a cup of coffee so hard to see it making too much of a difference. I wonder if they reorganize the structure a bit and just don't replace him like-for-like. As long as Howe stays around I'm good.

Big summer indeed. Can't have the same thing happen last Champions League campaign. Need to strengthen RW and CB, but also need lots of depth. I'm refreshing for transfer links about as often as I was refreshing here for baseball coach news.

Yea it's exciting that we should surely have money to spend for the first time in 2-3 windows. Start with strengthening those two spots and the depth issue will be helped too if Jacob Murphy and Burn/Schar are willing to be more of role players.

At this point, I think he has earned another year at least. He was dealt a huge blow with injuries mid-season. The influx of cash from Champions League should allow us to add some depth to our roster. The locker room was clearly behind the manager.

The big question is who is exiting this summer and who can we get to replace them? Are Levy & Co willing to spend the money for a serious CL run next season. We have a lot of youngsters outside of the first team, but they don't have CL quality if we get into injury trouble again.
They sacked him.

Glad to see that my uninformed opinion (they should get rid of him) given to the London cab driver panned out. I took my family to see the 4-1 Brighton loss in person on our family vacation. I am not a fan, just thought it would be a cool, non-touristy experience. It was incredible! I am still trying to figure out why the atmosphere at American sporting events is abysmal compared to a game that means absolutely nothing to either team. The only downside was that my middle son has now gone all in on the Spurs, and I would love for someone in my family to pull for a perennial favorite one day!

Spurs=A&M. Massive club with a lot of resources....doesn't win much ever. I've been to a couple of lower tier games over there. It was a lot of fun!

Looks like Wirtz to Liverpool is pretty much a done deal.
If it happens it will be interesting to see how Slot uses him. He doesn't really fit the current system. I'd say some sort of false 9 like Firmino maybe. When Firmino was on in that role, him, Salah, and Mane were pretty much unstoppable

Yeah, I guess the Europa win couldn't smooth over a 17th place finish in the table. Our league play was really terrible - regardless of injuries through the season. Excited about Frank coming in though. Will be interesting to see if he can help pull Mbeumo from Brentford.

Not a fan of Postaglieu, but part of the reason they finished so low was he made the right decision to prioritize the Europa League over the Premier League and got them into the Champions League. He deserved at least a another half season. Frank is an excellent coach, but Tottenheim's had a lot of good coaches in the last decade or so. Their problems are higher up.

Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold but has replaced him with Netherlands National Team Right Back Jeremie Frimpong & today Liverpool added one of the best young players in the world Florian Wirtz. Real Madrid & Bayern Munich were willing to sell the farm for him but Florian wanted to play for Liverpool. Liverpool is about to run rough shod through the EPL again & quite possible will be the best team in the world next year.

Looks like we’re about to replace Quansah with Guehi from Crystal Palace too. Most active transfer year since we spent all the Coutinho money buying the heart of the team for the last 6-7 years.

Yep, hope it works out this time too! I don’t think we are done yet. I still think we see a left back and possibly a striker.

On paper Wirtz is Liverpool’s most prominent signing since at least the 1980s, possibly ever.

I’m still over the moon from last season. Liverpool is my club, hands down. I have several others, but Norwich and Crystal Palace are my next two. To see Liverpool and Palace give each other reciprocal guards of honor was just unreal!

Looks like Kerkez will be official in the next couple of days. There is the left back.
Lot of really good work being done this summer. Will be critical to get the new players integrated into the team & up to speed quickly. Not playing in Club World Cup is a big advantage. At least they won’t all be exhausted when the season starts. 17 FIFA for even inventing this bullsh*t competition.

Agree. There are way too many fixtures now, both internationals and clubs. The World Club Cup thing is insanity, but the prize money is huge. The clubs will never turn it down.
