@matthewcstevens: Fmr. coach Bruce Pearl on ESPN "Lot of people feeling sorry for Rick Ray. I'm not. Mississippi State wanted to change culture & chose this."

That's a load of crap. Sounds like he's taking getting fired for his culture at UT out on Ray and MSU.

I watched it. Pearl also went on to say that Ray was a very good young coach and that he would do well with time. Also said he couldnt be judged fairly because of injuries and defections

Who the 17 cares what that douche thinks?

He was not only fired, but disgraced. If he thinks we went the wrong way then that probably means we're on the right track. 17 that guy.

Edited to say that it sounds like Pearl wasn't just taking a shot at us, as the tweet seems to suggest. So, nevermind. (Except I still think that Pearl is a douche.)

he is exactly right. We did choose to do this to ourselves by gutting the program and rebuiling from the ground up . I dont see anything wrong with his tweet

So Stevens tried to make it sound like it was a knock at State vs the whole context of what he said. I know Twitter is 140 characters but it's ******** that our beat writers try to spin it that way.

Last year, Stevens was basically ridiculing Stansbury. This year - he is doing the same thing to Ray.

Looking at his quote apparently he didn't say anything about us...

Wait, so Pearl should feel sorry for us?
just that he didn't feel sorry for Rick Ray. And I thought the culture we were trying to change from was having underachieving, undisciplined talent.

We didn't exactly choose to gut the program and rebuild from the ground up. In hindsight maybe we should have fired Stansbury a year earlier, but that's irrelevant now. Hard to fire your all time winningest coach who by all accounts is loyal to the school when he is sitting on the talent, if not the character, to make a run in the NCAA's.

We gave Rick another shot (which I agreed and do agree with), it didn't work out, and the dumpster fire burned to ash, leaving us no choice but to start from scratch. I suspect we would have been happy to have a normal rebuilding project if we had the opportunity.

Problem with ESPN, having guys that get fired for being unethical making

comments about somebody else's program. Give me a break, the guy cheated, got caught, tried to persuade the recruits involved to lie, get's fired and now he's the great know it all on ESPN that we are all supposed to follow. I mute the TV when that &$^#& speaks!

One queston. Who is Matthew Stevens? And yes. We have the worst beat writers in the world.
