LSU is a historically mediocre SEC program. 2006 was the exception and not the rule. If you've never been to a game down in Red Stick, doing so will make you appreciate the atmosphere at the Hump. It's pretty pathetic.

They have 4 Final Fours, 20 tournament appearances, 10 Conference Championships, and four of the greatest players in college basketball history played there.

After UK, UF, and maybe Arkansas. They have (I think) 5 Final Fours and 2 of the biggest names in basketball history (Pistol Pete and Shaq).

...I considered LSU the #3 program in the conference (now they're #4-- behind Kentucky, Florida, and Arkansas).

when comparing the greatest basketball players of all-time you are exactly correct. Bailey Howell doesn't count. Bob Pettit was inducted into the Hall of Fame 42 years ago AFTER he stopped playing. He played basketball at LSU 60 years ago.

When you are talking about the history of a subject, you sort of have to consider the whole thing. I mean, why are we considering Maravich then?

was a year before Pettit retired. You see where I'm going with this? Let's not go down the race path. Pete Maravich also died 32 years ago. Dying young tends to improve ones legacy. Weird how that happens.

He said Pettit was inducted 42 years AFTER he retired. Pettit retired in 1965, inducted in 1970.

of NBA players were not black when Pettite played. Kind of a different NBA when only 20% are black don't you think? The movie Glory Road is about a team of black players in 1966. That's 12 years after Pettite's last game at LSU and one year after he retired.

how long ago he played. "Bob Pettit was inducted into the Hall of Fame 42 years ago". 2012-1970 = 42 years. My sentence should of had a period there. Sorry for my grammatical fail.

Pete Maravich died in 1988, which is 24 years ago. I seriously don't get how you keep track of time.

the argument isn't about Bill Russell. It's about Bob Pettite. A white basketball player playing in an NBA made up of 80% white players. J.J. Redick would be a Hall of Fame player if the NBA was 80% white today.

Reading this thread reminds me of watching George Foreman making his comeback in the 1980's- when he was just beating the piss out of a bunch of no-names...knocked one guy out with a blow to the stomach- only time in my life I've seen a boxer quit because he got hit in the stomach- Foreman cracked a couple of his ribs they said later
