And they give the award to Hasheem Thabeet. Total and complete garbage. If the AP votes that way I will be pissed. I understand kinda why ESPN would vote for Thabeet because hes the popular choice and the one with the most publicity, but it still pisses me off. These type of things just shouldnt happen.

I assume you are implying that Jarvis was ripped off.

Well, here are the stats:

Jarvis - 4.7 Block/game, 8.8 Reb/game, 0.6 Stl/game
Thabeet - 4.2 Block/game, 10.8 Reb/game, 0.6 Stl/game

Thabeet - Big East; Jarvis - SEC

Thabeet gets the nod - especially taking into consideration his competition. Nothing wrong with this.

If you are suggesting someone else than Jarvis - my bad.

I've seen them both and I think Jarvis is a better shot blocker by a long shot. He is outblocking a guy that is 6 inches taller than he is. The rebounding is skewed because of how many opportunities he doesnt get to rebound because of our 4 guard lineup jacking up 3's creating long rebounds that Jarvis cant get.

Actually, in the regular season, their blocks were even closer than that, with Jarvis at 4.7 and Thabeet at 4.6.

Also, you have to consider the fact that Thabeet went to the Final 4.

Jarvis might should have won it, but you can't say that Thabeet was undeserving.

Varnado blocked 15.35% of opponents shots while he was in the game, #1 in Div. I. Thabeet blocked 12.23%, #5 in Div. I.</p>

Thabeet is deserving and it doesn't surprise me, but Jarvis, IMO, is more deserving. Jay Bilas has been a huge advocate of Jarvis all year, and has pointed out many times all the various stats that Jarvis beats Thabeet in...defensively and offensively

I forgot who it was, maybe Pat Forde, but someone did an article for ESPN comparing Hasheem Thabeet earlier in the year to the other candidates for player of the year when Hasheem's stock was really rising. Whoever did the article then made the comparison between Thabeet and Varnado and said that if you are going to include Thabeet in the MVP discussion you have to include Jarvis because the numbers were so similar. It was more of a thing showing the type of players you bring into the MVP discussion when you start looking at one statistical category for a guy instead of the entire body of work. Defensively, Thabeet is great, but his offense is not good, which shouldnt have made him an MVP candidate, which is what the article was saying.

I agree that Thabeet is deserving, I just happen to think that Jarvis is more deserving than Thabeet is.

I think they are both deserving, but if numbers are similar the guy on the better team almost always wins. Who were the really good bigs in the SEC?

Patrick Patterson at UK is the only one I can think of that has NBA potential. Most of the rest of the bigs in the SEC (outside of JV) were closer to 4s than 5s.
