do not feel bad for them cuz they can always play up to find competition during the season. All of my feeling go toward in kids in CC.Feel bad for Essex. They are elite but C1 so they are limited on who will play them. Todd Jones runs his program in a lot of ways that Billy Mills does. Top tier human. Hope they can bring another one back to Tapp Town this December.
I agree that Essex can play up. We’ve done that in the past vs. 4A King George, 3A James Monroe, 5A Deep Run, 3A (at the time) Thomas Jefferson, 4A Jamestown, 4A Caroline. It’s been always said that they have a hard time finding larger schools that’s willing to play. I’m not on the inside, so I don’t know if that’s true. But there are a lot of low to mid level 3A- 5A schools in the Richmond, Fredericksburg, Williamsburg and Charlottesville area that Essex could try to pick up.do not feel bad for them cuz they can always play up to find competition during the season. Bingo! Well said. This risk reward is a gamble for sure. If you know you can win it's a windfall for a team to play. Example Maury vs. Dinwiddie or Phoebus vs. Highland Springs. It makes no sense for a team NOT to play down. ie, a C4 team gets the same base points for playing a C1 as they do for playing a C4 team. And when you play a team like Essex you know you are going to get a ton of rider points. The only real reason I can see for a larger school to not play Essex is because they are pretty confident that they will lose!!!
or if the two coaching staffs have a relationship (which is usually the case). It makes no sense for a team NOT to play down. ie, a C4 team gets the same base points for playing a C1 as they do for playing a C4 team. your examples don't show them going too far afield to find competition, maybe it is a money thing, if that is the case I do understand but don't say NOBODY wants to play us.I agree that Essex can play up. I said…” It’s always been said that they have a hard time finding larger schools willing to play. I’m not on the inside so I’m not sure if that’s true “.
We’re not messing with the elite big dog teams. But some mid and lower tier teams we could go toe to toe with… win or lose. Same thing with Fredericksburg and Williamsburg area teams. We could even branch further out like Rappahannock and Westmoreland did with Northside and Handley. We use to go 4hrs to the Eastern Shore to play lesser talented teams. Why not drive 2, 3 or maybe even 4 hours to play teams with better talent. How do you think Essex would do against the Richmond area schools?
me too so let's do it. King William has branched out.I think they could keep up with Armstrong and TJ too. Essex and Armstrong had similar results with King William with Essex pulling starters after the 2nd half.
