In ref to the earlier post re UM signing the guy that, shall we say, "mismanaged" a credit card. Here's my take:

Croom came to Starkville and ran off about 30 players, many of whom he considered thugs and guys who weren't "doing it the right way". The result was losing games he would not have lost with those players (see Maine, Houston, et al).

Nutt came to Oxford and met his thugs half way...compromised, coached 'em up a little. The result was the Cotton Bowl.

I'll take Nutt's way every time.

"thugs" are one thing. Using the credit card of your best friend's dead girlfriend is something else.

And our current coach has signed no such shady characters.

All schools have there share of less desireable types. Croom nearly signed a guy that was actually in jail for agrivated assault. I know what this guy did was pretty horrible, but stone throwing, especially when you live in a very fragile glass house is stupid.

... if you were the head of a human resources dept., there is no way you would hire them for a job.

That's the most sickening aspect of this hypocrisy: Thugs winning bowl games are desirable, unless they try to move into your neighborhood or try to get a job @ your place of employment.

Then, suddenly, it's time to contact the authorities.
