we can judge Coach Ray's performance. So far, I give him a C- but know it will take time. His ability to recruit is the most important weapon in his arsenal right now. He needs real players and it is somewhat of a mystery that he hasn't been able to do better in the months he has been here. So we shall see if he can coach and bring this program from the bottom. Frankly and brutally, there are not a lot of believers right now. The attendance at The Hump is going to be embarrassing, and I wonder if we will have any home court advantage at all. Our students may or may not show up. We need them to be there. We need season ticket holders to be there. We need more people to buy season tickets. In the past, like Stansbury or not, The Hump was either a sell out or near sold out to season ticket holders. Coach Ray came into a very tough situation. I hope he is tough and can withstand the criticism he is bound to eventually receive...whether it is his fault or not. I prefer that Stansbury not be used as an excuse, but I know we will hear it. Blaming it on the last guy seems to be popular these days so why not do it in this case? I just hope Coach Ray wins at least one SEC game....seemingly not a very tough goal to achieve. However, when you watch the guys play it really makes one wonder if they can actually win one SEC game. We shall see.

Few questions.. How is it a mystery he hasn't been able to do well to get real players? Like you said he's been here a few months. How can you give him a C- so far? Going on your rating, what would you have given Stansbury last year? How can you not put some blame on Stansbury?

Ray would have taken last year's team to the Sweet 16 and beyond. No doubt. Stans had no control. So give Ray credit. He has no talent.

I don't know which is more ridiculous, ...

giving Ray a C- after single digit games with a collection of no talent *** clowns, or predicting what his green *** would have done with last year's collection of talented *** clowns.

Nothing can be determined until we find out whether his green *** can recruit.

I am going to give Ray an A+

We went to Hawaii, came back and nobody was kicked off the team

Eight months is long enough to come up with better players than he has. The C- is average...not awful, not great. Blaming is making excuses. I am tired of hearing excuses....just put it together and move forward. Everyone already knows the cupboard was bare; everyone knows Stans left him with nothing. So let's stop talking about it and move forward. BTW, Stans would have received an F last year.

The C- is for putting together what you call "no talent *** clowns" in a period of eight months....not impressive. Think about it.....a player who used to be on the scout team as one who played against the women's team.....is now playing and playing a lot for our men's team. Is that the best he can do? If it is, the C- may be a little generous.

Couple things. Ray came in towards the end of the signing period, he couldn't have just kept adding talent during his whole 8 months for this year. He had about a month to develop relationships and recruit. He has already added 4 players for next year so that is what 8 players since he has been here? A C is average, not C-; but that is beside the point. You have your own ratings and if that's what you think then that is your rite. I disagree with you but so be it. And you just said Stans left him with nothing, so how can you not blame him for this year at least some? Agreed on the F for last year. We had at least Sweet 16 talent and were bounced in the first round of the NIT.

Yea because 2 torn ACLs, a broken wrist, a suspension, 2 players kicked off the team had nothing to do with why Cunningham is playing. Add into that 2 transfers from last year and a player leaving to chase his dreams in the NBDL. Come on man

I think it's ridiculous to grade him until he gets a legit shot at a class. ...

we simply disagree about that.

That is dumb as hell

He only had a month to try and get the leftover scraps from the Spring recruiting period. All the top recruits had already signed or were close to signing- not much he could do. Hell, what he was able to put together was actually pretty good considering- but all the damn injuries have made the situation a cluster-17 for this season.

Something that needs to be remembered:

1997- Williams and Stansbury lost all 5 starters from the 1996 team. They went 12-18
2006- Stansbury lost all 5 starters from his NCAA Tourney team. Went 15-15 and had the easiest OOC this school has ever seen.

So when you combine losing all 5 starters from last season, coaching change, insane number of injuries, and attrition due to installing discipline- this is where we are.

What in the world did you expect after 8 months of recruiting...

when Ray comes in with NO ties to this area, has a small amount of time to build relationships with the limited number of recruits that were still not committed somewhere else AND we are recruiting now apparently with no "juicy jumbos" to offer. Stricklin made it a point he wanted us to clean up our recruiting methods in basketball and I'm not sure if you can get top talent to a mid-tier school like ours if you don't play the game given that college basketball has the dirtiest recruiting of any sport out there. Giving a C- at this point with all the disadvantages Ray has been dealt is just ridiculous. I'm withholding judgement at the moment, I'm fairly certain Ray will be a better floor coach and developer of players than Stans but if he can't get the raw talent it likely won't help us to be a successful program.

You are right, but it doesn't mean **** to the Bury supporters. They are after Ray no matter what.

Vanderbilt got their *** handed to them by Marist today 50-33. This same Marist team lost to a bad WVU 87-44. I think Ray's Diapers will beat atleast one SEC team this year.

April 2, ten days before Johnny Jones was hired at LSU. Huge point here ... Ray has added four players for next year and they may end up to be great BUT compare them to the one five star (#5 PF nationally), two four star, plus two highly recruited JC players that Jones will be bringing in at LSU. Stars aren't everything BUT Jones has been at LSU 'less time' than Ray has been at State.

Not all bodies are created equal.

on comments on his recruiting for '13. So far he has signed four; highest and only rated is a 3 star PG, another guard, small forward and a skinny center. None are from Mississippi. Meanwhile, Jones at LSU has been there less time than Ray and has signed 2 4-star, one five star PF and two highly recruited JC players.

I want to see MSU BB win and support Ray; agree he gets a pass on this year but he needs to 'upgrade' the team talent.

Jones came from one-state away and without checking, I think all of his signees have been guys he was already recruiting with the exception of a guy that already has a brother on the team and is also the son of a former LSU player. Ray definitely needs to upgrade the talent, and his next recruiting class is going to probably need a couple of instant contributers that can be big time players. But I'm not sure it's fair to expect him to do what Jones has been doing.

LSU has been kicking MSU's *** in basketball recruiting for years

So I'm not sure what your point is. Remember Johnny O'Bryant? He was a pretty big recruit. 5 stars. Lived in Mississippi and everything. LSU sucked donkey nuts at the time and not even the great recruiter himself could get him to Starkville over Baton Rouge.

That 5 star recruit that LSU got. Yep, you guessed it. He's from Baton Rouge. We had a 4 star from Starkville last year. Ray managed to get him to campus even if it was Stansbury that recruited him. He could have demanded his release.

Point being: Let's give recruits in this area at least this season to get to know Ray and to see how he operates his team before we claim it as fact that he can't recruit.

I'll add a necessary piece to this statement, "AND there was no fight."

Stans should have kicked off two people. Instead he kicked off the lesser talent and kept a fatass, lazy, piece of ****.

...Davidson (75-62) and Oregon (74-48) as well so far. They're going to suck.
