I'm pretty satisfied with my Sportacular app in general, and if I am not at a game Twitter keeps me pretty well informed. Why would I want this Fancred app? Is it actually worth a damn?

I'm either a dubmass and can't figure it out or it's the worst app ever created. Neither would surprise me. If someone could enlighten me as well, I'm all ears.

Since it involves a MSU guy, I'm pulling for them. I am having trouble seeing how to fit this into my social media use though.

I'm growing weary of it being constantly pimped by out athletic department. I don't even know exactly what it is, and I guess since I have an Android phone, I'm never going to find out.

To simply describe it - it's a sports only facebook. It's a lot more interactive than Twitter.

Like others have said, the CEO is a State grad and the reason the Ath Dept is pimping it out - they now are the first college to have an official page on there. I think the Boston Red Sox have an official page as well.

It has potential but so far there is not a lot of great insight or content to be found on it. Mostly a bunch of posts along the lines of "Hey my friend is new to Fancred!!! Follow him/her and help them increase their fancred!!" Also a lot of trolls on there, too.

Hi everyone, my name is Hossein Razzaghi and I'm the CEO of Fancred. As some have mentioned, I was raised in Starkville and I am a MSU graduate. We started Fancred because I believe there deserves to a be sports-only social network. In fact, if you consider all of the popular social networks that exist today, sports is the #1 type of content shared and discussed amongst their users. Fancred is meant to be a place where fans can recommend cool sports articles, videos, or pictures. Fancred is meant to be a place where fans can quickly share their thoughts and opinions about a game that's going on. And Fancred is meant to be a place where fans can discover and connect with other fans (and in many cases, fans of other teams). It's not meant to be a place where fans have long threads of back-and-forth discussion, game analysis, or X's and O's...I think the good folks at SixPack already do a great job of providing that.

We've been live on iPhone since March and we're growing very fast. I believe we're growing fast because fans love talking sports all day. Fancred gives them the ability to quickly see what other fans are saying and/or sharing without having to dodge political posts, celebrity news, or other non-sports content. That being said, we are still a very small and young company and are by no means perfect. We're working very hard to continue to improve our product and provide a great experience for our users. If anyone ever has any questions about the app or how to use it, my email is [email protected] and I would love to hear from you.

Also, we are working to provide Fancred for Android users soon. Being a small company, we have to focus our efforts and prioritize our resources so we decided to build iPhone first. We have nothing against the Android platform, it's simply a matter of resources that forced us to make a difficult choice to wait on it.

Thanks for reading and I hope this response somewhat helps.

Hail State,
Hossein

Yes, today we require Facebook login. However, we never access your Facebook wall or post there on your behalf (unless you do it yourself). Facebook login is simply the most secure and fastest way to authenticate our users. I understand if that's a show-stopper for you and we're adding other ways to login soon.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm an Android user who doesn't do Facebook, but then again, this doesn't really sound like anything I'd be interested in anyway.

I started an empty or dummy Facebook just for stuff like this. I've provided no bio info, no pictures, no friends, no likes, nothing, just an account. I use it all the time because so many different sites let you sign it w/ Facebook now its faster and easier.

That said, I won't be using it on Fancred, Six Pack takes up enough of my "social media" time now as it is, don't need another sports distraction

Can I ask why you chose to deploy a native iOS app rather than building the app in HTML5/JS/CSS and using something like PhoneGap to create your iphone and android apps for those marketplaces?

The HTML5 app experience is not yet on par with the experience that comes with native development for iOS or Android. Those technologies have considerable room for improvement before you see developers forgoing native development on a consistent basis (especially when it comes to apps that are meant to handle significant traffic and load). Prior to Fancred, I spent 8+ years in web technology and mobile development. I think HTML5 for mobile will get there eventually, it's just not there yet.
