I have a baseball signed by the whole 1985 team.
My dad and I were at a game (I believe it was the Ole Miss game) at Smith-Wills Stadium. This was back when the managers for the teams would come up into the stands and take foul balls that were hit back to the dugout. I was in about the third grade and caught the one and only foul ball that I have ever caught. Rather quickly a manager came up and took the ball from me. No big deal he was doing what he was supposed to do, but it still kinda sucked for a third grader. Only problem was, during the game there were many more foul balls hit and the guy never came back and took another one. An older guy, who I still don't know to this day, noticed this and asked my dad for my name and mailing address and my dad gave it to him. No way you'd do this today, but the world was different then. Anyway, about a week later I was at school and my dad showed up with a box from Mississippi State University. Inside the box was a note from Ron Polk saying that he was sorry that my ball got taken away, and nobody else's did, and he hoped the ball inside would make up for it. I reached inside and pulled out the ball signed by the whole team. I still have that ball almost 30 years later.
