Original Tom Waits, “Come On Up To The House” vs Sarah Jarosz cover, what say you?

not sure who the "original" group was but it couldn't have been better than this cover version!

Me and a friend was sitting just to the right of the band there that year when they played that. Great memories!

I thought of another one of my favorites last night, and although most of this board (including me) wasn't born yet when this cover was made, it's a classic cover of a classic song. Vanilla Fudge re-imagines The Supremes. This particular live version from Ed Sullivan was really wild in 1968 and has one of the most electric drumming efforts from the 60's by Carmine Appice. As you probably don't know, Carmine was/still is a huge influence for many drummers, starting with his little brother Vinny who went on to be the drummer for Black Sabbath and Dio.

Anywho, I like this one.

The number 1 cover song has to be, "I Shot the Sheriff". Go look at the number of versions by various artists.

If you liked me, I would be seriously worried. I would have to make big changes in my life.

That's a good one, but I think "Yesterday" is the record holder. Or was at one time. Although I will refuse to hear anyone but Paul singing that song.

Sorry, was just trying to get y’all’s juices flowing. I’m a die hard Allman Bros fan… so Zac Williams … Midnight Rider is legendary. Tell me y’all’s fav!! Could have said Stevie Nicks doing Dave Matthew’s but that girl can sing anything!

As one of the "some" on the board that was "well born" by then, this popped up on the radio a couple days ago and thought a good one to add but also thought too old for most here. But since you "youngster" brought it up, one similar from the same time frame. No idea why my parents let me go at 14 but saw these guys at something called the Big Bam Show put on by WBAM in Montgomery. Included 4 or 5 "big acts" of the day and kind of amazing looking back on it. Not the show I went to but funny to hear $2.50 and for only a dollar more both shows across 2 weekends in the second clip.
Thanks for the fun fact on the drummer.

That's pretty cool!

Speaking of, House of the Rising Sun by The Animals was a remake of an old folk song itself, which technically probably could have been included. But that feels like their song to me. Love it.

Totally forgot a cover that is actually one of my favorite songs too, so it does really fit in this thread(vs just 'good covers').
Rocked out to it last night in the car with one of my kids-

The Ataris made this song their own in sound, feel, and meaning. Way more than just a well played cover.

Probably not my favorite but I've always loved this one, from right after Prince passed in 2016. I want to say it was the "Purple Rain" album that knocked "Born in the USA" from the #1 spot on the charts in '84.

I don’t know how to post a link, but Cheap Trick cover of the Beatles A Day in the Life is excellent!

Any help on posting a link from an iPhone would be appreciated.

Speaking of Prince, this one will take your breath away

I "rediscover" this clip every couple of years, and every time I stumble across it I have to watch it multiple times.

ETA: I recently found out why he tossed his axe and did the stage fall. Rolling Stones either ranked him too low or didn't include him at all in the list of Greatest Guitarists of all time. I'd say he got his point across.

BlackBerry Smoke-Anything they cover.

There’s some really good ones out there.

Prince is the greatest of all time. There’s a fantastic podcast on This American Life episode is named “Better Call Dave” about the safe cracker who tapped into his vault. Great listen.
