I’m one of the more positive folks when it comes to hoops, but this team is gonna be worse than last year’s. Still can’t defend the 3, still suck at FTs, still don’t have a PG, and very little post presence. Okafor will be a bigger bust than Ballard….let that sink in.

Where would Jans be if Hubbard doesn't leave OM after Kermit got fired?
As long as Hubbard is playing, there will be little perimeter defense. He compromises all of the defense. That is the price you pay for his offense. This post is neither pro nor anti Hubbard. It is just stating fact.
Hubbard barely played. Can’t blame it on him tonight.
According to many SPS folk, Hubbard is overrated and a liability.
Based on that, Jans would likely be in a better position right now.

But who we got without him on the court? Been the issue since Jans. He can't build a whole team.
If Johnson is our only option at PG, it’s gonna be a long year. He got stripped 3 times just bringing the ball up the court.
I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt since it’s an exhibition and Memphis looks like a good team this year.
We start the real season with 3 games we should win without question and then we’ll find out what we have in mid to late November.

I think they play at Arkansas this coming week. Will be interesting how that turns out.
Well if we lose to TN Tech, Northwestern State, or Jackson State then we’re definitely screwed. Those three teams were a combined 30-61 last year and all were sub 300 in the NET.
Let me rephrase then. The perimeter D sucked just as bad if not worse with Hubbard out.
I do think it has somewhat forced Jans to coach away from his preferred style. Hard to make the argument that it would be better without a good player like Hubbard. But not sure Jan’s has been a good coach to try to take advantage of Hubbard talent.
I listened to the student radio broadcast last night. To their credit they pointed out with Hubb off the floor we make entry passes and play better team ball. With Hubb on the floor we just hand of to him left or right at the top without looking to make entry passes. We’ve done this his entire career and it can’t be very motivating to the bigs to get position and look for scoring opportunities. Jans really should change that to include more of the team on offense, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

I’d like to know why tee Bartlett gets zero playing time. He dropped a bunch of weight, was highly recruited out of high school, but just sits at the end of the bench with his warm-ups on looking totally disengaged. Is he not good enough to get some of okafor’s minutes?

Because Jans literally can't develop him into a basketball player. No player under Jans has actually improved year after year
