Losing Graham to Oregon will be tough for Nebraska and for Coach Williams. After all we are talking about a team/program that:
Went 4-8 last year
Fired their coach
Hired a Coach with a 40-45 record
Has no DC
Has no DB coach
Their HC has met with Graham one time
Apologies to GBRHusker, as this is not meant to be an excuse, but a discussion point....
Its fairly clear to me that how a D1 prospect evaluates his life decision and how we view his same situation are distinctly different. And usually we aren't arguing over different sets of facts, but rather folks have differing points of emphasis.
Lets be as simple as possible and throw out the supposition that he basically is going to follow his girlfriend, cause gosh darnit, something came to him in a dream last night and he's just not letting her get away. That's *the* factor.
Does it matter that we had a better record last year? Would it matter more that they have been more "high profile"/"relevant" in the last 10 years? Does the weather matter? Or the fact that DW would be his coach, or some probably competent guy yet TBD in Eugene?
If its his girl that is truly the issue, none of that football stuff is going to matter and we're just out of luck. If its some combination of winning, history, tradition, PT, and "football" stuff, then we have a good shot, but may well still come up short if the GF is a tie breaker. Or hell, he could announce Big Red and this is all moot.
To me, JP and DW represent a real experiment in the Husker labs. We have acted on here for many years, that a guy like Frost is going to walk in, tradition the place up/Preach the N, and just get us rolling again. JP's experiment on the D-line is sort of the mini experimental version of that.
DW represents the opposite approach. Open up the check book, get a Top 10 recruiter guy, and watch the glory days come back. Again the results of this should tells a lot about this path going forward as well. Its not everyday your program gets a Top 10 type of guy on your staff.
