It’s finally official. Crazy how these two teams haven’t met but they haven’t. Obviously Tarboro is the odds on favorite to win. My question is, does Murphy keep it within a couple scores? We shall see.. best of luck to both teams. I heard it’s going to be played in Hickory so should be right in the middle for both teams.

I feel like to truly compete against Tarboro you have to have a real talent at the QB position and Murphy just does not have that, it's their weak link as Starmount showed tonight.

In hindsight #71 probably should've sat out against Starmount, with his injury he wasn't close to his usual self on either side of the ball and it showed. Whoever is out there the Murphy offensive tackles are going to have to play a lot better than what we saw tonight, it simply wasn't good enough and will get ugly against Tarboro if they don't bring it next week.

Murphy just looks very physically beat up to me, they've went through a gauntlet to get to this point at it seems to have taken it's toll. I will hope and wish for the best next week but it's going to take a herculean effort to be competitive with a team of Tarboro's caliber.

Tarboro is banged up too. Played the last couple games with 2 or 3 of their best defenders out.

Tarboro fans we will do the best we can to give you a game. It’s an honor just to see Murphy have an opportunity to go up against a great program like Tarboro. That’s about all I’m going to say about it. I’m just super proud of our kids for making it to this point and no matter what happens next week, it’s been a great season. Here’s to an injury free game and hopefully a good game. Safe travels to everyone.

Cross County North Edgecombe played Murphy twice in the 90s. North Edgecombe 7-6 Murphy 1994. And Murphy 13-0 North Edgecombe 1996.

Dont see how anyone picks Murphy in this one. Tarboro is the favorite until further notice. I think this will be another very comfortable win for the young men in Purple. Absolutely amazing the program you all have. No hate from this mountain football fan.

Congratulations to both teams for making the finals. But with how Tarboro has “ran” through their schedule, I just think this will be another trophy for the case.

And shocker, I will make an early prediction and say 2026 state champs will go to the Vikings as well.

Go Mountaineers

This year’s Murphy team is just average not exceptional, it will take an exceptional team to beat Tarboro. I was hoping when Tarboro got introduced to smc football we would have an exceptional team to represent us. That being said I think Tarboro wins the ship

2026 I got Murphy. They return almost everybody and Tarboro loses a few.
Murphy does bring back pretty much all of their skill people/secondary and should upgrade at QB and have more of a passing game next year, but they graduate most of their o-line and d-line. I don't see anyway they will be as good defensively next year, losing #84, #55, #71 and #51 will be tough. But the offense could be better if they can figure a position or two on the interior o-line out.

You’re not getting a typical smc team
I’ll be honest I don’t wanna hear it. People have been holding the losses from a few years ago over Tarboros head when a lot of the seniors on this years team were taking the lumps as freshman and sophomores when Tarboro didn’t have a “typical Tarboro team” so it is what it is.

The reality is that Murphy and Tarboro are both premier programs in NC and it should be a good game. May the best team win. 19 combined state titles on the field Saturday.

There some sandbagging going on???
No I don't think so, Murphy is beat up and they're not balanced enough offensively as far as being able to pass the ball to keep Tarboro from loading up on the run. I think Murphy will struggle to score.

If big #71 was healthy on the interior d-line I do think Murphy would have one of the best run defenses Tarboro has played, but he isn't and it changes things.

2011 Wallace Rose Hill was supposed to cake walk an average Murphy team, so until they get on the field I don't really know what to expect.

Exactly and that’s why I don’t think any Tarboro fan up hear is saying this will be an easy win.

2010* and that wasn't an average Murphy team by any stretch, for my money by the time the playoffs rolled around that was the best Murphy team in the last 25 years.
Your right 2010, but down a starting guard (strep) a linebacker playing on a torn acl, average team. The next couple of years were better teams IMHO.

This year’s Murphy team is just average not exceptional
The offense is below average by Murphy championship caliber team standards but that statement is a slight to their defense because the defense is certainly not average when healthy, Heard and Corvian were the only two teams all year to score more than 20 on Murphy’s defense for a reason.

Personally, the only time I would feel very confident to see Murphy beat Tarboro is if we could reach back in time and pull the 86 or 87 teams with Carl Pickens to play them. Or perhaps the 91 and 92 teams with RBs Smith and Herron. The 96 team with that stellar starting defense would be interesting too, but not sure if the offense could score enough. Having said that, we will make the trip next week and see what this team can do. You never know until you know.

I don't know if I've coached any team more talented than 2010, unfortunately I was not smart enough line coach to win that game, that game taught me a lot!

I always pull for all the Western teams, but I just don't think Murphy can beat Tarboro, sorry to say.
Tarboro by 28 and maybe 35 or more.

I’m gonna be quite honest, I think Murphy has been a traditionally GREAT football program. Tarboro has been on a historic run since 2008, with this being state championship appearance 14 in the last 18 years. With all of that being said, Tarboro goes to Hickory next weekend and walks out with a 3+ score victory. Kamerin McDowell Moore rushes for 150+, Caiden Everette goes for 100+ and they leave their mark on Tarboro after an amazing run. Together, they’ve rushed for 9,297 yards and 137 touchdowns on varsity alone. They end their high school careers with a huge victory and they will break the single season rushing yards record at Tarboro with over 5,000 rushing yards as a team.
