The initial '25-26 Division 1 Golf Rankings were released today. Both teams are ranked higher than I would have expected and one member of the Men's team is currently ranked with some of the top players in the country and #1 in the B1G

Frosh Lucas Politano from Vermont comes in at #20, out of 2,042 who have played at least 4 Rounds, after 2 Top 10 finishes He is also the highest ranked golfer in the B1G after 3 events so far. His 2nd Place finish at the Canadian Collegiate was a large factor. Not only did he finish 1 stroke away from the title, he tied the course record in the final round , a 9 Under Par 63, but was also selected B1G Golfer of the week. You'd have to go back to Chris Gotterup's Junior year to find a team member in the Top 20.

The Womens Team, which is now off until February, is ranked 76th out of the 281 teams who have played at least 2 tournaments so far. 76th is the best ranking at least since the new ranking system took effect in 2023 and probably longer. It's a reflection of the way the team played at Princeton (2nd) and this week out in Oklahoma where they played really well in the final round, moving up to 5th against a strong field. Rutgers top ranked players are RsJr, NJ's Grace Lu at #196 and So Joline Truong from Canada at #226 out of 1,649 who have played in 2 or more events.

Strong as ever, all 18 B1G teams are in the Top 100 led by #2 USC and #4 Oregon. 2025 Nat'l Champ Northwestern is 11th.

In conference, RU is 14th.

The Men who unlike the Women have 2 more Fall events came in 85th out of 310 in D1, their highest ranking since April 2024 when the team was 82nd. After the previously mentioned Lucas Politano who also has a 10th Place at the Marquette Invitational are Luke Koenig at #441, and fellow B1G Golfer of the week, Jeff Zatorski, who won The Minnesota Invitational, a tourney featuring DII teams plus 10-20 D1 golfers playing as Individuals.

The Men stand 13th in the B1G. #15 UCLA, #17 Illinois, and #27 USC top the conference.

The men will be in action this weekend at the Quail Valley Collegiate in Vero Beach, Fl.

I said it before and I'll say it again. The expansion to the West Coast was a godsend for the B1G in the sport. Just like in baseball, golf was basically a mid major before adding both LA schools, Oregon and Washington.

Yup on the Women's side in '24 UCLA, USC, and Oregon were 3 of the Final 4 and Oregon was Top 5 last year when Northwestern won the National Championship. Oregon has the distinction of a member of the team, Junior Kiara Romero, ranked by the OWGR as the #1 amateur in the world.

On the Men's side going into last year, Illinois had won something like 12 of the last 14 BiG championships. UCLA won it this past Spring.

It may help but the women's recruiting has centered on countries outside the US over the last few years. Current roster has 2 from the US, 2 from Canada, 2 from Europe, and 1 from Japan. The Men are 8 US and 1 from Spain. There has been a far west and west coast member here and there on both teams.
