Kid needs to have thicker skin and understand the situation. If they were so close during the summer that Flood had difficulty picking a starter, why didn't he make the change during the season when it was obvious Laviano was having challenges moving the football. Flood doesn't like Rettig, plain and simple. That caused the booing, not Laviano's return.

Ridiculously clueless post. Why should Laviano, or the rest of the team, be expected to parse out the finer details of what adults behaving like two-year-olds who had their pacifiers stolen are booing about?
There's no excuse whatsoever and the people who are attempting to defend what happened are basically outing themselves as either clueless about what happened, stupid in general, or just plain mean.

Sorry, I don't like FLood, and Wanted Rettig to play, but that was about as classless as it gets.
As far as Rettig, the notion that Flood doesn't like him is so childish, I can't even respond to it. He has a reason he isn't putting him in. I don't know what that reason is, and I don't really care, I wanted to see Rettig, but to suggest he doesn't like him is just stupid.
The people that understand leadership and what it takes to be a leader understand the situation as a whole. Laviano shouldn't care that people are even in the stadium. He should just do his job. As I can see from the posts, you don't get the fact that people booed the decision to put him back in. but I guess understanding people goes far beyond this board.

I did not boo but felt the coach was not being fair to Rettig by not allowing him to finish the drive......the coach got booed, not Laviano... I seemed to understand it immediately because
it was a gut reaction against a coaching decision.... I felt like yelling out give the poor kid a chance out there for once, meaning Rettig, but I did not.....leave him in for this drive....all this with no dishonor directed by me

There was no reason to immediate rush Laviano back to the field. Rettig could have handed off for the series. Laviano could have used a breather after that hit....

If you have kids playing sports anywhere can you let us know where they will be playing. I'll be sure to stop by some games with a megaphone and boo them. If I'm confronted about it, I'll just tell everyone that I was really booing the coach since he/she is letting such an inferior player on the field and the backup should be in there.
I begged people not to boo earlier this week. You guys did anyway. Did you guys expect a different reaction?

I did not boo, but felt like doing so....and if I had, it would have been directed at Flood for not giving Rettig a series....I don't need a special boo, but when the boos came, I understood, because of how I felt at the moment.... as did the people who booed.
I think Laviano indicated clearly that he understood who was being booed.
The fact that people have to explain to the clueless exactly why you don't boo as the quarterback of your team returns to the field after being knocked around a few plays previously pretty much says it all.
A damn shame...and makes one SO proud to be a Rutgers fan.

so Laviano, like many here, misunderstood why fans booed...... we can say the timing of the boos were in poor taste, but once again, they were directed at the coach, as I am sure most here probably know already, but choose to be outraged.....
listen, when Rettig got pulled, I stood up and said, basically just to myself, Jesus, give the kid ( rettig) a break, let him have a series......I did not boo....but some choose to vent that way
I don't think that makes me a bad fan, but I do understand, because of my reaction, why others booed,....I understand better than most here, I guess.
While booing a player who is not getting paid and trying his best seems classless, at least those fans were in the stadiium in a cold rain showing support for the team. The other half of the stadium that were empty seats might have had some more warm bodies in them if Coach Flood allowed Rettig a chance to show his stuff.
It's actually really, really simple. You don't boo your own team. It is never helpful, today it was quite harmful.
Yes, coaches make decisions for no reason especially when their jobs are on the line.
This is from someone who doesn't like Flood and wanted to see Rettig play.
When the starter, with the game on the line late says(who, when given time was playing well) he is ok, almost every coach in america would put him back in.
Not defending FLood, have written many posts about RU not developing QB's, but in that situation in the 4th Quarter, you are nitpicking when you don't have to.
Flood has a 4 year body of work that says enough.

We have a lot of growing up to do as a program. And our fan base has a lot of growing up to do too with that reaction to Laviano.

You can call me moronic because I do not give a rat's as# what you think, but I have no problem with the OP's post. The kid cannot respond to booing by flipping the bird to the crowd. Every starting QB that plays in front of a crowd of over 30,000 will get booed at least once, and needs to have thicker skin. However, I am not going defend him for the Flood not liking him. It probably could be said a different way.

I was at the game did he really do this? If he did that's not really a good sign from someone who is your starting QB. It shows he lacks composure. Could careless how anyone tries to spin this his gut reaction was to act out in anger if he did truly do this. This reaction by him does not exude confidence and composure two key elements of being a QB. Rather we have a petulant child at QB not a leader.

Not sure why you wouldn't get this from my post when it is clearly stated. I'm curious did you simply not see the quoted post or did you quote the wrong post? Which is it?
I was at the stadium and I was a mixture of angry and embarrassed at booing Laviano as he returned. The kid was laid out on the field and was tough enough to come back in after one play. Don't even try to pass this off as booing Flood or the play calling. Or the defense which pulled a no-show once the Maryland 2nd string QB came in. Every single one of those so-called fans who booed Laviano when he returned to the field is an utter embarrassment to Rutgers. It was about as classless an act as I've ever seen anywhere.

so it boils down to this...... the fans who booed did so as a message to Flood they were displeased with his choice of quarterback at that moment in time..... some interpreted it as booing at Laviano which it certainly was not....because there were enough fans who think Laviano was getting booed, it probably should not have been done

but to have some bitter fans keep insisting it was aimed at Laviano is just dumb....the very people stating that over and over already know it was aimed at Flood....there are posts elsewhere by some who booed and said it was aimed at Flood....but that is not good enough for those going through the charade on this.....
