Four Mountaineer Teams Honored By NCAA MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 3, 2017) – The West Virginia University men’s basketball, women’s basketball, rifle and women’s soccer teams received public recognition today by the NCAA for their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The four teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. The WVU men’s basketball team has now been recognized for the second consecutive year and fourth time in the last eight years. Women’s soccer earned its fourth public recognition since 2008, rifle earned its second overall public recognition and women’s basketball earned its first public recognition by the NCAA. These latest multiyear APR rates are based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years. Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. Multiyear APR scores for all of WVU’s athletic teams, including the teams receiving public recognition awards, will be announced by the NCAA at a later date.
