I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he's secretly relieved. There's no way he could look at the current roster and next class coming in and think it was national championship caliber. The noise about him not being able to get it done would have just gotten louder and louder each year going forward.
Cignetti no 5 stars , 7 four stars on the roster.

If James quit, would he have given up the rest of money? Penn State wouldn’t have needed to buy him out?

Not rejoicing, actually shocked. My season tix holder bil texted me while I was walking the pittie
Don’t see how this will help. We just lost two more from the 2027 class. I guess the family thing didn’t apply to the head coach. The team wins 13 games the year before and he gets fired. I guess that’s how life is now with the internet babies that have to be heard every time they are upset. I am still a fan but I don’t expect to see the success we had with Franklin In the next 10 years. I hope I’m wrong.

Franklin didn’t deserve to be booed off the field. He’s given everything to the university. No, he’s not a good game day coach, l but he was a good recruiter and face of the program. A change was needed, but I wish it hadn’t evolved this way.

I know a lot of people on this board will be excited. I have mixed feelings. Yes, it was probably time for him to go. However, turnover at the college level brings with it a lot of uncertainty and can have big impact on recruiting, which was a strength of Franklin's. Also, I am concerned about who is up next.
Agreed. There was no way forward with Franklin after the last couple weeks. However, the decision on who replaces him will be an enormous one.

Sure, but he put his heart and soul into this job and it blew up in his face. He loves the kids and PSU (his home state school) and feels like he failed them. No amount of money can truly heal that sort of wound.
That's his problem. He was given every opportunity to succeed to failed.
I hope for the rest of his life he regrets talking Allar into returning instead giving of doing what was best for Drew
I hope for the rest of his life he regrets the countless poor decisions he's made
I don't believe he will. I think you all have made him into something he wasn't as a person. He was beyond selfish.

People feeling sorry for Franklin - he’s going to kill it on a pregame show before you know it. Yuck it up for a lot of dough with none of the stress except knowing what camera to look into.

That’s the job he was made for
Franklin strong-armed PSU many times with the USC stuff, all so he could get his way with facilities and compensation. It’s a two-way street

Good. The coaching hire will bring in a lot of his commits and, based on what I’ve seen, they’ll probably be better than these decommits.
Hmm. I guess you forgot all the good commits Franklin got over the years. FYI. They announced at the game yesterday that there are 49 former Lions in the NFL currently. But what does the NFL know? BCS PSU knows more than they do.

Hopefully the next guy will understand how to manage a clock and when to go for 2. For instance, yesterday Penn State took their first 2nd half time out with 1:19 left in the game. Good grief.

He lost to UCLA and NW after getting the DC he wanted plus helped get Drew killed. Booing was kind.

He does a nice job building a program from the bottom up. VT or UNC make a lot of sense. The pregame gig sounds good but he is still young and probably will have the motivation to try and prove everyone wrong.
I actually would not want to see him at a Virginia or North Carolina school. He made a lot of inroads recruiting in VA and DC. His presence that close to PSU could impact our recruiting.

I’m surprised they pulled the trigger now. I thought they’d wait until the end of the season and use the time to get their ducks in order. Kraft would have had some cover while he got things in motion.

Agree but that makes the most sense.

Good. Hopefully, most of the gutless, passionless players who contributed to this disaster and have no terminal loyalty to PSU will leave and contribute nothing to their new programs. It’s obvious that there was something seriously wrong with the culture of that program this season.
Loyalty ended when teams started paying players. I wish it weren’t so, but sadly I think expecting loyalty from players anymore is a fool’s errand. Allar was loyal and look what it did for him. It potentially ruined his football career.

Franklin had to be fired and it had to happen now. You cannot allow his continued presence to drive the fan base away and destroy recruiting. That would be a compete disaster. It would take Penn State may years to recover from that.

At this point, I would like to see Penn State make an all out effort to get Cignetti. He has Pennsylvania roots and knows the state well. And knows many of the state’s top coaches and programs. Whether he would leave Indiana at this point would likely be a tough sell but at this point make the try anyway.

Has any coach ever gone from one B1G right to another? Could see him going SEC or maybe Clemson if Dabo gets booted.

It makes a lot of sense for sure, but I think it is a possibility that he would look for a new beginning in another part of the country. Perhaps Oklahoma State makes a lot of sense taking a program that truly is in the toilet located very close to all that high school football talent in Texas.

Why would Penn State not be interested in Cignetti?
Money. He makes $8.3 million per year and will certainly command more to leave plus with Indiana in line for a deep season run, he wouldn’t be available until very late. Plus, he’s 64 years old.
