Didn't we think we got them?

Staton-McCray, 41.3% 2 years ago at Samford, 33.3% this year
Williams, 37.1% 2 years ago at LSU, 33.7% this year
Dar, 37% last year at Rice, 19.0% this year
Simpkins, 26.3% least year at Elon, 37% this year but only 31.9% in the BE (at least he improved)
Parker, 35.7% last year at NC State, 20.5% this year

For context

Staton McCray in his first 3 years at Samford shot .287, .286 and .288 on 4.9, 2.3 and 2.9 attempts per game.

He then improved to .413 % on 3.0 attempts a game. The season cited above proved to be an outlier.

In one season at Miami, he regressed to
.323 % on 3.2 attempts.

In his 1 season at Seton Hall, he has shot .333 % on 4.9 attempts.

ASM is a career .330 3PT % shooter on an average 3.2 attempts.

.331% in 4 years at Samford on 3.2 attempts ( in first 3 years was 28%)
.323% in 1 year at Miami on the same 3.2 attempts
.333% in 1 year at Seton Hall on much higher usage of 4.9 attempts

ASM's one 40% year at Samford was a complete outlier, but I suspect the jump got him paid at Miami where he shot his career average. Which probably helped us land him in the portal.

He then maintained his career average at Seton Hall with much higher attempts -
4.9 compared to 3.2

This has been ASM's best 3 point percentage shooting year in his career other than the 40% year cited at Samford.

Williams 1st year at LSU was really good
.371 on 3.2 attempts per game
He averaged 19.5 minutes a game

The next year his play dipped to 11 minutes a game and he shot .250 from 3 on 2.7 attempts.

This year, he improved but not quite to his freshman year level at LSU.

.337 on 3.0 attempts per game

What type of 3 point shooter Williams is remains to be seen, but his averages at each of his schools shows marginal improvement at Seton Hall:

2 years at LSU - .324 on 3.0 attempts

1 year at Seton Hall - .337 on 3.0 attempts

Dar, Parker and Simpkins are all in their 2nd year of D.1

Remarkably, this was only Dar's 2nd year of D1 ball after playing 2 years at the D2 level. His one year at Rice, he shot the 3 extremely well at high usage.

There was more for us to get from Dar this year imo.

Parker showed promise shooting the 3 his first year at NC State. His 3 point shooting dipped this year as he was asked to play more of a lead guard role at Seton Hall - but that is speculation on my part. IMO he has a significant upside moving forward.

Simpkins significantly improved his 3 point percentage from his one-year at Elon, but he did regress in Big East Conference play.

Whether it was the Big East grind or something else, the 3 point shooting dipped. Ironically and perhap coincidentally, the line up changes most were clamoring for including Simpkins for Williams, had a helpful impact on Williams, but Simpkins play suffered since.

All these players have nice potential and room to grow. All 3, even Dar with only 1 year of eligibility remaining, had limited D 1 experience coming into the season.

For context, last offseason only the good was highlighted and mist thought we’d be much improved in 3-point shooting.

Many hoped the 3 point shooting would improve. The 3 point performance of these players with the exception of Dar and Parker did not fall off the table when they arrived at Seton Hall as some posters suggested.

The 2 highest usage players this year from 3 were ASM and Simpkins

ASM shot to his career averages on higher usage

Simpkins improved, with the Big East Conference dip.

All that being said, we need to improve 3 point shooting for sure whether it is with these players or others.
